Kotor 2 made revan greater than he is. Revan is a old Ghost of the past and his time is over.

I remember reading a interview with Drew about him writing Revan. He hated the book, they constricted him so it can be joined with the upcoming ToR and it fucked with the overall continuity of the KOTOR games. It outright ignores the whole of KOTOR 2 and butchers Revan and Malaks fall to the dark side.

I was a bit jarred by some parts of the 'Revan' novel and was let down by the ending when i first read it but came to really enjoy it over time. I had no idea Drew Karpyshyn didn't like it. I always considered both Revan and Dessel to be his creations (whether that's the case or not). 🤔 If the higher ups forced him to fit his story just to accommodate their version of the character, or (like Darth Bane's appearance in TCW) changed his character just to accommodate their story- that'd be a real shame. Having never played TOR, I can happily say KOTOR is still my head canon. As an aside: 🍻Cheers to both Mitch and Z Keep up the great work fellas!

Got to agree with you. The MMO ruined Revan. I dont think of it as canon since alot of what is canon now is scrubbed from the headspace of fans thanks to EA and Disney. He died to easily and to be honest I never really liked the 'its destiny' thing starwars always pushed. The force being alive and having favorites and agendas was a bit to much for me. It was too prominent in the new starwars whereas the old starwars mentioned it with the 'Chosen One' prophesy and left it vague. As a lover of storytelling it's always been off putting since alot of current writing is starting to push stories where everything was already predetermined. I think a person like Revan was written to defy destiny. Also I think at the end of KOTOR 1, when he defeats Malik, Malik's words to Revan about how it was destiny that made him lose and that destiny made Revan the victor was nicely written in the sense that it left things up in the air for the player/fans to determine. SWTOR was pretty linear in some regards although I'll admit to liking some aspects of the game. I think they should have just left Revan out of it. Alot of people already have their headcanon of Revan and for some he's a woman. They should have known it wasnt a smart move since fans were upset they turned KOTOR 2's character into a girl and gave her a canon name. Again, for some she was a guy. That's why I'm a bit reluctant for a KOTOR movie. Although, if Keanu Reeves plays Revan....I might watch it. 🤣
@ingolf822 жыл бұрын
10:30 the reason Revan doesn't react to Scourge at all is because by the time you are suppose to enter the Maelstrom prison in the story (yes, the flash points have a story order too), you haven't met Lord Scourge in the knight story, so he's not suppose to be there. that is why Revan doesn't react when you later solo it with your level 50 lord scourge

Like I give a rat’s ass about what Disney says - as far as I am concerned, Revan crushed Malak, took control of the Star Forge and carved out his own empire: reigning over it like Marka Ragnos ruled the old Sith - an empire that ended due to incompetence of Revan’s successors long after the dark lord passed on.

Sadly the solution to pass the torch was so simple after making the player a biased third party in kotfe. Revan should have been the alliance commander and we his greatest agents. As is Lana Beniko and the loot crate commanders run the alliance while we are essentially still just a spec ops team lead. As Revan is light and dark he should have trained the player on Odesson as we to are told by Valkorian to embody all of the force.

including Revan in the mmo was lazy, instead of building new interesting villains the players cared about (like Malgus) they choose to bring him back and ruin the mystery/choices he made for some "player feeling powerful" moment. Actually this reminds me of Luke in the sequels, and I really dislike this kind of storytelling. You don't have to tear down good characters so the new one can feel strong.

After 2 years, there is a continuation where Revan returns once more, with Scourge and Kira at the player's side to help defeat the Emperor yet again, and hopefully for the last time. Valcorian, Visiate, and .I.can't.recall. yes, 3 names for "The Emperor" and 3 faces. And in this set, SWTOR Revan is redeemed for me.
@wilberwhateley75692 жыл бұрын
Long story short, Revan was meant to be a vehicle for the player character - this simply doesn’t work in an MMO and the devs didn’t know what to do with the character yet felt the need to include him for some reason. The result: a lazy plug for a boss fight…
@Elcionmassive4 жыл бұрын
Revan lost because of the writers. That's it. Revan in lore was "like staring into the heart of the force" in SWTOR he shouldn't have been included until a much later tier and as an ally. Never an enemy, because as the player we should have never matched the power he wielded.

Most people don't understand how the Force in star wars works. Even back in the Original Trilogy, you had Luke who had like a couple months worth of Jedi training defeat Vader who joined the order as kid and grew to be one of the strongest beings in the Galaxy. Then you had Vader defeat his master Sidious. Why is that even possible? How could such powerful masters fall to weaker opponents. The answer that the Force has a Will! (May the Force be with you) Force isn't like the other magic systems. It is alive and it chooses which person to help at a given fight. Most people see the Force in a way too "videogamy" or "powerlevel" approach. But that is simply incorrect. Because the Force is alive and it has a will of it's own. It can help and betray it's users. All it takes is for the force to abandon you and you just like the infinite empire, you fall to dust.

Honestly I'm rather disappointed with Revan's fate he was such a grate character but it made sense seeing as how in his book he lost to vitiate because he was stabed in the back at the last second he lost in the foundry because he was still recovering form being held prisoner for 300 years straight and he lost on yavin because his light half kept healing the player and everyone else even though he kept beating them over and over again it's just unfortunate.

I feel insulted revan did not all ways lose he won in many battles the only reason he lost lots of battles is because SWTOR wanted him dead so he could not be talked about in the movies and so they did could not make a KOTOR 3
@nothanks35902 жыл бұрын
Obsidian also took Revan away from us. we dont see or play as Revan but he is talked about a great deal. do we as the player get to decide or choose or have any control over the Revan that Obsidian presents? no. we are just told these things. you may say its not that important or not the same thing because we dont see or talk to or fight Revan like we do in SWTOR... but the choices that Obsidian "egregiously" made about Reven forever changed the character whether we as the player liked the changes or not whether it matched our head canon from the first game or not whether it retconned the first games Reven or not... changes that Bioware and the creators of the character had to accept and abide by and continue with whether they liked them or not.
@Noamalmoggg Жыл бұрын
How can you say that? The entire game revolves around the choice you decide regarding kotor 1. You chose weather revan was a man or a woman,and weather he was light or dark. The game dialogue surrounds those choices. Also,yes,we dont get to play revan,or meet the real revan in kotor 2,but we do get to meet old revan from the civil war era,we get to learn of his tactics,his brilliance. just saying "revan was a genius" and leaving us to wonder what made him a genius is one thing,kotor 2 provides so much all around information about why revan is considered a master tactitian,a brilliant leader,a manipulator of outcome.

THe MMO is not canon, while it is good story telling in a vacuum for the most part, it is not good when you touch even remotely on the source and origin of where they got the things. It's very well in terms of driving characters, but major story plots and the overall setting gets fucked hard by the game. I still enjoyed it, even if the gameplay is mediocre, and the only thing that really makes it work is the characters.

My head canon is that Revan simply left the galaxy, creating an army, waiting to return when Star Wars fans need him the most. That day he will return and destroy the giant clusterfuck Disney has wrought on that galaxy far away and bring true balance back, not only to the force, but to Star Wars itself…

I hated the revan foundry fight but I was okay with his story and how he was beaten in shadow of revan as his true self was pretty insane, but their definitely needed to be better story telling. I would like to see revan is no luke skywalker in legends, so revan isn’t god like powerful, but he was a genius and should’ve had better story in swtor, but in its defense the emperor was a crazy powerful being so it was okay that revan was beaten by him in shadow of revan it took the greatest champions of the galaxy to defeat revan (just darkside revan) and I think that was pretty impressive, but the foundry fight hell no it should have taken malgus as well as the empire’s absolute best, but nope he got beaten by a bunch of plebs, but at least he played a part in defeating the emperor during ehoes of oblivion, which is appropriate.

Why bioware do this? Milk everything they can out of character in term of money. Let face it. Revan could have succed to kill the emperor, but by doing this simply create the ground for the war in SWTOR. They want to do this because in every MMORPG you must have a super threat and than a super super threat and than something bigger and bigger. Because is far more complex to create a satisfying story in which you kill underling. So you have beat Revan, because you have to be superior and than the emperor. SWTOR RUINED REVAN THIS MISTAKE CAN NEVER BE FIXED!!!!
@FannyPackMan1003 жыл бұрын
Revan does not "lose" at the beginning of Kotor. He was betrayed by Malak from afar and caught by surprise. That'd be like saying that Palpatine "lost" to Vader in Ep. 6. He didn't. But I'm sure you know this, of course. I....don't agree with this title's name and subsequent implications. It makes it seem like Revan is weak and is being trashed on. I already feel that he was disrespected immensely by everyone at Bioware for writing this dogshit story and the countless haters of Revan (that exist for some strange reason) that want him brought down because they don't like his fanboys. Don't misunderstand, this isn't an attack on you, but it doesn't condone the title, either. I get what you're saying, but dislike very much the way that you're saying it and what you're saying. Yeah, Revan is 100% screwed over by the developers and storytellers over at Bioware, who seem to forget what made him special to begin with. What made him, HIM. They make it seem that his wanting to use the Foundry was not only an overreliance on Rakatan tech, but somehow makes him a bad person. When in reality, he was a man unconstrained by conventional moral thinking and knew that sometimes victory meant sacrifice. That's exactly how he single-handedly won the Mandalorian Wars. He knew what he was doing. And yet, Bioware seems to think that this is somehow "bad". Smgdh. Also, Revan didn't have an over-reliance on Rakatan tech at all. He knew of the full capabilities of the Star Forge and what it could do (even discovering the Infinite Engine, for instance), but didn't want to rely on it too much, or else it would consume him as it did the Rakata. He saw such tech as tools. Useful tools. Nothing more. Revan, both as a Jedi and Sith, achieved countless victories. Real, tangible victories. He only lost because the writers wanted him to lose so they could toy with him for money. They even went out of their way to portray him as some lunatic who gets shoved around by nobodies possibly because they were jealous that Obsidian did a monumental and fantastic job fleshing out Revan's story and the kind of person that he was. That is the only explanation of this nonsense that I will accept.
