Hi Rob I am in the UK and I've really enjoyed watching all your video's on the CB50v Dream as I have the same bike. The Takegawa Hyper CDI was a very popular mod back in the day and if reconnected will give you an increase in performance. They were speed restricted for the Japanese market but there were heaps of performance parts available only limited by how deep your pockets were. As a lifelong Ducati fan I will now embark on watching your other video's.

Hi Peter, great to hear from you. I've got that Takigawa unit and have now also tried it out. That will be in the next video. The preview is that it did allow the revs to spin up, but the power was basically the same. It went very well with the wind behind me, but not so great the other way around. I'm definitely getting some of the old 50cc riding vibe off it tho.. like where you try and stay on the throttle around every corner to keep the momentum up.

Good videos, just picked up my dream a couple months ago. Crazy slow but pretty to look at.

Yes, so gutless! But in my last couple of rides I started getting used to it and it does keep up with traffic around town without problems. I also tried the de-restictor gadget and will have the outcome of that in the next video. I reckon it really only has about 3 or 3.5 horsepower.

The way that engine wails without any actual roadspeed reminds me of the CBR 250 RR's sound like they are doing a million miles an hour and come past at 60 KMH, Those 50 KMH warning lights are a pain and on some models the only way to get rid of them is a different Ignition ECU. Maybe that is why it had the aftermarket Ignition ECU when you got it Gee a "Moped" where are the pedals Rob I thoght all Mopeds had to have pedals, As for that compliance plate Ian from Gowanlocks back in the day before he took up growing grapes I remember was faced with having to drill holes in a Bimota Chassis to fit it typical Ian he supaglued in in place instead wonder if it has fallen off yet, Yes he cheated and cut the heads off the rivets and glued them onto the place so it looked legit
@Ducati900SS2 ай бұрын
hah that's a good idea for the compliance plate. This thing is certainly gutless. I watched a video by someone else running one the other day and it was actually very similar to this and only did around 60kmh. So maybe I'm not far off standard performance. It'll certainly be interesting to use the Takigawa or the wire method to speed it up. Where I lived we had Mofas that had pedals and Mokicks without, but over here mopeds are just any 50 with less than 50kmh. I'll see if that ignition thing stops the light, otherwise I'll be doing something more drastic with it.

@@Ducati900SS Many of the earlier grey imports with carbs used the ignition module with a sensor inside the speedo to turn that 'Don't Speed Light on "when it reached 50 KMH in many cases it retards the ignition so do not rev out any further

This may be somewhat long winded but once you read it I think you will see the value in the information and links and as well I forgot one other notable Bike I ran and dialed in on the Dyno a Cagiva Mito 125 the little miniature 916 fitted with a bored (Athena Cylinders ) and stroked 421 CC Banshee engine making 96 HP at the back wheel One could also use a programmable Ignitech Ignition out of Checkoslavakia linked here below I have used their Ignitions on Yamaha Banshee Quad engines which are based on the RD 350 LC engine not the later RZ 350 and unlike the RZ engines they kept making Banshee Quads or at least selling them Till 2012 in Australia. makes parts so much easier to source. The other systems I have used a lot on anything from a Number of MV Augusta F4 and Brutale models and a number of Injected Ducatis and a flat track Injected RMZ 450 Suzuki because Microtec are a woodworking Machinery and Skyscraper Climate Control systems manufacturer, But the Son of the Founder worked for Aprillia in World Superbikes and Cagiva in 500 GP's and managed to convince his father to be able to manufacture Motorsport Control units for most injected Ducatis and MV's plus the injected 450 Japanese MX bikes and assorted things like Mitsubishi EVO Lancers. All their systems plug into a factory loom come with a stock Factory ECU map plus a Map they did on the dyno in Italy with slip on pipes, For Ducati's I used to use these systems with Spark Exhaust systems the ECU when I was fitting them was Au $1500.00 and a Spark full system was about Au $ 2500.00 and when one considers the Ducati Performance system with the Ducati Race ECU was Au$6000.00 and then still needed remapping for road use as they were way too rich down low and into the midrange so you either flashed a chip or fitted a Power commander or maybe a rapid Bike system all added cost and complexity plus the necessity to do a dyno tune to dial it in. I know you have a classic SS with Dellortos so it other than the Ignitech probably does not apply and I believe it would be a good fit for both the Honda CR replica and your 900 SS these systems are easy to map and give great results as an example in my days of building Rally Cars I remember an AE 86 Corolla Levin I did for a customer that already had the TRD race ECU after fixing the Toyota TRD too much Ignition advance too early mapping issues and the way too rich fuel mixture they used to stop it pinging under load that little 16 valve 1600 Twin Cam picked up almost 40 Horsepower below 5,000 RPM. Maybe this information could be of use to others you might know here are the links for Microtec and Spark who are not that well known and not easy to find even when you do know who you are looking for but know that in the States Fast by Ferraci who has a stellar reputation with Ducati MV and Guzzi is one of their distributors and to put them into perspective the sensors they use are F1 standard accurate to one tenth of a degree in their universal Car ECU's and for MV and Ducati they plug into the factory wiring loom and have modern built in Canbus Diagnostics the Can to USB converter cable though is not cheap at about $ 300.00 They also plug into the 450 MX bikes but at least the Suzuki one I did they seemed to be oh so italian great product forgot the mounting tabs on the case so had to improvise that Bike done for a Dealer in Mackay who wanted it for Beach racing they do up there every year. Well they had some issues setting it up on Methanol so I dialed it in online via Microsoft Teamviewer running their laptop with the Microtec software from my Laptop in Sydney I can highly recomend both Spark and Microtec but Microtec can be hard to search for as their is an aftermarket Car ECU from Aus called the same name slightly different spelling hence why I gave you the links to pass on to anyone who wants to look into these top notch products www.sparkexhaust.com/en/bike/ducati www.microtec.cc/en/standard-production/motor-sport/

great work Rob. This video will be an excellent reference for Dream owner like myself. Where did you source the tyres?
@Ducati900SS2 ай бұрын
Thanks Andrew! I got those through TSS Motorcycles in the Hutt. The guy there went through the catalogues to see what he could get hold of in the size and there were only these and one other that was not in the country. The Duro's were available the next day and looked great so I took those. They'll be able to get more, and they had inner tubes on hand as well. And how is your bike moving along? Have you had it on the road, and how does it compare to my experience? It does get going at high revs, but it's definitely not 5.x horsepower. I'm pretty certain it will improve with better fuel flow so that's my next task.

Those were from a guy who posted them in the Dream 50 Facebook group. He's in Belgium and had a few NOS parts for sale. Check in there, or on the Japanese auctions sites. There are always pipes available but mostly rough. But if you keep checking, there'll be a set eventually.
