After my 3 year old passed away last year I lost all interest in taking care of myself.. but you and your brother both helped me get to the place where I actually look forward to doing my skincare and I wore makeup to a family dinner for the first time since his passing. My heart goes out to you Tasha, I'm sorry for the loss of your sweet one. One of my best friends (she's like a sister to me) recently lost her toddler and I feel like I've lost a niece. Just as a side note to Robert's incredibly helpful (and technical) tips on choosing an intense lipstick shade - keep in mind that the general public won't know that you *never* wear red (or whatever shade) lipstick - only YOU know this is a step outside of your norm. Using less product in makeup worked like an overnight magic for me.Back in 2017 and until 2020 I was so disappointed with how my cakey makeup looked inspite of following all the techniques "I was supposed to".And later during the end of 2020 I found Robert and Hindash's channel on yt and observed the way how they emphasized more on using less product and trust me ever since then I saw such a huge difference and almost no texture. Makeup has been so fun since then.

I used to use full coverage stuff and abuse it. Because I though it made men fit in more since this is what others do. And for the longest time I couldn't tell you what half the products did for me and whether I wanted more or less or a different one. Concealer? Does it show slightly and or is full coverage? I mean it's concealer anything goes. Does this mascara make my lashes black and look like I have any on? Yes, it's good. But recently I found out I love the less is more approach. I barely wear foundation. Or if I do it's either tinted moisturizer or dewy and when my skin is misbehaving as in tons of pimples or redness. My skin became glowier since I finally got myself a moisturizer. And I stopped using powder all together since it did nothing for me. My skin doesn't get all dry everytime I take my makeup off. Because this is what I do usually. Of course moisturizer with spf and a primer. Some concealer to brighten up and spot conceal any visible imperfection, cream bronzer (it's a darker concealer), blush and dewy highliter. Eye primer for some eyeshadow looks, eyeliner (I often use the one I use for my brows), brow liner and mascara plus something on the lip. Either a gloss or lip oil or whatever. And I haven't felt more beautiful ever since I gained confidence.

I love the thought process behind using less product. I think of it in terms of cooking; you want to start with a little bit of salt and gradually add a little bit of salt each time until you find it seasoned the right amount to your liking. If you add too much salt all at once, then you potentially ruin the whole dish and have to start over🍝

I have noticed quite a lot of younger people wearing darker foundation than their skin. I swear it started with James Charles as he always went lots of shades too dark and said shade matching wasn't that important, I never understood it as a good shade match was the most important thing when I was a teenager in the 90s. Although for my ultra fair skin I still really struggle to get light enough shades.

Back in the day when I was doing make up for a Prescriptives, we were the first to color match undertones. One of my favorites requests was, “I need a red!” A red what, lol. It was truly impossible for some people to understand how many variations of red there can be and that a blue red that matches your undertone can actually look natural. I love your advice, Robert. It’s spot on. Too bad MAC pushed Prescriptives out of the market, but the color wheel still works.

Finally someone said it!! 😂😂 I've been so confused as why ladies are rocking the oompa loompa look with pride now. I mean if that's what you like then you do you. I completely agree about the natural soft glow you get from bronzer over a proper foundation match. My mom was in her late teens and twenties during the 1950s and another thing she taught me to get a more natural and healthy look was to apply your blush before bronzer. A lot of their blushes she was able to get then were a little much she said and this diffused it and made it look more like the glow is under the skin and not just sitting on top. Still works amazing and it's really opened me up to trying more blush tones to incorporate more appropriate undertones that work with the rest of my makeup much better than just sticking with the same shade.

Kind of a weird thought, but I've noticed the yellow-toned foundation thing too, and I wonder if a lot of people started to think they had a yellow undertone due to the popularity of warm toned non-complexion makeup (even if warm tones seem to have slightly waned in popularity in very recent years). I had a recent epiphany with my own skintone and realized I thought I was much more yellow that I actually was because warm tones next to my skin bring out a yellowy/almost sallow tone. I realized I had been gravitating towards yellow toned complexion products because they made my skin look more 'harmonious' against the warm toned eyeshadow/bronzer/blush I was wearing. Brands seem to have made their conplexion lines much more yellowy than what seemed to used to be the case, too, so I really do think yellow toned complexion products have been more popular in general in the past 5 or so years.

What if your face is darker than your neck and chest due to redness and hyperpigmentation? And you hate using bronzer on your neck and chest (or even on your face, to be honest). I’m using some color corrector to help with the redness, but the hyperpigmentation is basically all over my face. So I find myself correcting the redness and then matching my foundation to my neck. Otherwise I have to put makeup everywhere just to make everything look slightly orange, which is not the look I’m going for…

On the subject of yellow shades of foundation, I'd like to add something else I notice quite often when scrolling through Instagram. People who call themselves or work in the make up profession are not all that keen on the yellow shade of foundation and I get the impression that they use one colour on every model or client, and when it comes to make up, it's always full beat make up. It's like they did a course 10 years ago when heavy make-up was in vogue and didn't take into account other trends or techniques. And these are people who often work with celebrities or TV people. A couple of days ago, I saw one such person doing the make-up of a young girl who looked 40 years old and none of the comments under the photo were positive. She explained that it was make-up for a party. I didn't know you had to be 20 years older for a party :D

I’m glad you posted this video-it’s true for makeup less is more. Up until 2020 I wore so much makeup every day I looked ridiculous and now I’ve learned to tone it down. I also see way too many people using yellow foundation because they think it cancels red-it kind of does-but so does a foundation that actually matches their skin and won’t look like a mask. So many people are actually cool in undertone and don’t realize it. (I’m warm neutral and even my undertones aren’t that yellow).

It took me forever to realize that I have a neutral olive undertone. Yellow foundations and powder look orange on me and rosy foundations look pink on me. Finding the right undertone was a game changer. I also noticed that many you tubers apply entirely too much product when they are doing their makeup. If someone is watching and doing their makeup like that, it’s going to look really bad in real life but really good on camera. I’ve stopped going directly in with a product; especially cream and liquids. Now I put them on the back of my hand and then dip my brush, tap or wipe off, then go on my face. It makes a world of difference!

We wouldn’t feel like we needed to use so much, it would be less product waste overall, and more people could afford to try more things. Thanks for the video! I didn't know that I needed to wait for a bit before putting powder over liquid foundation. I've found that my Mac pressed powder and a dry blush I believe got hard panned and messed up from putting the brush in the pan back and forth in the pan from wet makeup. Now I understand. Also, a lot of people's skin gets darker in the summer so their makeup shade may change to. I have deeper skin but in the summer I can't wear certain foundations and tinted moisturizers because they're too light. Other foundations that were too dark from winter to summer work better for me in the summer and fall.

Yellow tones I feel like aren’t spoken enough about, as a fair skin south Asian woman I was always share matched with too warm of tones that looked orange & I HATED them, then if I tried lighter it would be too pink, within the last year or two I’ve realised I like a light yellow coloured foundation with neutral undertones & it’s been a life saver, I think warm & cool tones are talked about too much, yellow tones & neutral undertones not enough

Never truer words said.😍 I've recently learnt a trick of putting the tiny tiniest bit of eye primer under my eye in the corner. Let it do its thing, tiny bit if concealer tiny dab of powder, done no creasing. Never looking back. 😍

I've been using less product, especially foundation and concealer, and it works like a charm. Before watching Robert I used to think I need to use a lot of product to get the coverage I want, because that's how some other influencers do it. But it only made my makeup look cakey and weird. I'm sooo thankful to have found this channel

The red lip confuses me so much. I have very cool green/olive undertones and I’ve noticed that the orange-hued reds always stand out more on me. The blue-based reds end up looking less stark (and I want a VERY stark red). The only non-orange red that’s looked rich and stark without looking flat-out orange is the Fenty Stunna in Uncensored. I find that to be a very primary red, so it gives me the kind of boldness that I want without pulling orange.

Ahaaaaa! I always noticed when I'm hurrying to get out the house and i apply foundation/ concealer and right after I set with powder it always looks cakey and bad. I always thought is because i hurried and i didn't apply properly - but now it makes more sense On the same note, i noticed a similar thing if i wait a little (even 5 min) between skincare products or if i don't

I totally understand what you mean by not going backwards on the flick - because the product is applied in a certain direction, to go back in the opposite direction will disrupt the product and potentially brush it off (imagine patting a cat with the flow of its fur vs against the flow of its fur)

When giving advice about finding correct red what about those with olive undertones. Seems most foundations also forget about us especially if you are of darker skin tone. There may be an olive undertone in a light to medium tan but then there isn’t another til medium dark (if any at all) so it’s hard to find a foundation that doesn’t look too yellow or red. Even those find my match when they show photos usually have pics of people with golden (yellow) or red undertones. Juvia’s place was the one foundation that had an olive undertone one that matched my normal tone (I’m deep tan) and one that matched my tanned (deep) one.

I... still don't think I've ever tried a foundation or concealer that was too pale for me. I'm basically the color of a sheet of printer paper with a very slight pinky-blue tint.

I'd recommend going to Korean brands instead, their lightest tones are often literally the color of a white sheet of paper~

@@amandahahn-davidson511 People who aren't that pale say this all the time, as someone who has tried the lightest shades from numerous Korean brands they are super dark. Also unless you have yellow undertones most Korean brands are not going to have the right undertones for you.
@amandahahn-davidson511
@amandahahn-davidson511 Жыл бұрын
@@KatjeKat86 I mean a few years ago I was paler than all the American brands and only 2 Korean brands were light enough. Many Korean brands bb creams have a grey cast and are in fact as light as a piece of paper and cc creams are virtually pure white I lived there for years and yes there are numerous brands that have shades that are lighter than the lightest American foundation shades. Those aren't the same brands sold in the US as Korean brands though, they are brands that you get imported

Thank you for saying about the darker foundation arggghhhh! I don't understand why people do this. This is what always put me off talking to staff on beauty counters too as they always tried to say I should wear a yellow toned darker shade than I am (I'm really fair w cool undertones). Yes! that eyeliner flick thing makes so much sense, I love these type of videos. Really hope you're feeling better x

For red lipsticks: if you’re a cool undertone, but yellow overtone(pale olive), is the cool or warm better or would a gray-red be better? It always looks weird on me, but I also have a very small mouth, so it always looks a bit cartoonish!

9:15 This is what I send you as a unpopular opinion too. There's a big difference between skin caked on with product, than actual skin texture. But you still see a lot of people saying "it's not cakey! it's just texture! makeup will always look like makeup!" while there's a thick layer of products sitting on unprepped skin. Like trust me you can avoid it a lot, been there done that 😄 It doesn't have to look like a dry, crackey mask. It's way better to focus on hydrating/moisturizing skincare and less is more.

I am Casper white (Irish) and when I wear fake tan, I’m literally about 10 shades darker in order for the tan to look noticeable and a nice colour. If I then apply my everyday foundation - it’s just too white. No amount of bronzer could darken me down enough without looking really harsh. There’s just too much of a contrast. Any tips for this?!

Ugh. My very close friend got married this summer and what ever pro did her make up, did the OPPOSITE of too yellow. She is naturally tan, olive complected, but her irl foundation was a Casket Ready. The photos with flash were even worse. It broke my heart. I wanted to shove her back up the aisle and fix it.
These makeup releases are boring...
