With no wideband I would probably go EFI since its already ready to go. Plug the stock computer in and drive. If you plan to modify it for big power then you definitely want to get a wideband

@@NightWrencher Ive been driving it with the stock EFI and flex injectors and I have TunerPro but I have no clue how to tune it other than the injector flow rate for the flex injectors. I see trim data but I have no clue if it’s ACTUALLY lean or rich. Previously it was showing close to zero trims but it was obviously lean , I think it needs to be tuned or maybe my o2 sensors are fouled because it it’s lean it should be adding fuel 🤷🏽♂️ if I had a carburetor I could tune it , but I have no clue how to tune this and that’s what makes me want a carburetor. They say I need a wideband, and I need a tuner. I have the ability to flash the pcm and I have changed to the flex injectors flow rates but I have no clue about the MAF or volumetric efficiency or where I’m at AFR. I can see trim data but it seems inaccurate. My plugs were white and chalky when my trims were zero

Hey night wrench I’m have the same issue as you had with your msd box, I.e weak spark and you replaced the msd…. My scenario is we got strong spark ⚡️ on all 8 cylinders but when I disconnect cylinder 1-3-4&6 engine does not change. Checked compression. It’s at 150psi. Could it still be the msd box? Just got it from summit… outta of the box

Have you tried running a spark tester inline of the coil and spark plug to see if its still firing when rpms go up? Whats the spark gap at?

@@NightWrencher I did. I applied my spark tested inline with with coil and spark plug. With high rpm’s spark does indeed get quicker. The gap on the plugs were preset for a 05 avalanche which is where the motor came from . I don’t recall the number

@@betoo0311 if you have good spark, its unlikely that the box is the problem. Try to richen the mix to see if it responds. It could just be running lean

Need some help please....have the smart sensors hooked up to my gen3...issues with that motor, so now have a gen 4 on the stand...plugging the oil risers,removing goofy ass lifters,i believe the daytona can be adjusted for the 58x crank,what about cam sensor and what cam gear..thanks for any help

Hello, if you have a gen 4 engine, the smart spark. Should work fine. Mode 2 works with 58x crank trigger and you'll need a 1x cam gear reluctor if it doesnt already have one

It does. In the instructions theres a part that tells you how to set up the port so that you can connect.

@@NightWrencher I can smell fuel coming from pipes that use to burn my eyes before I ran the pipes in it but I still smell it and it’s a light white or blue looking smoke coming out of the pipes

Hey so I have the msd 6014 ignition box on my 5.3 a swap into my truck. Ran fine without issues for the first 3 months or so. Now every time you start it it's starts popping out the exhaust and sometimes the carb. But if the alternator is unplugged not charging it runs great. With it charging is when it starts misfiring. I already replaced the alternator and within 10 minutes of it running good it started popping again. Any ideas? All coils have spark, I replaced cam and crank sensor. Checked the wiring diagram to make sure it did that right. I pretty much am at the point where I think it's the ignition box.

Its quite possible. I would play with the mixtures at idle to see if you can get it to clear up. Have you tried calling MSD?

No. But I'm about to cuz I'm stump. I've tried different a carb on it to see if that would change anything but it didn't. It's just weird that if the alternator is unplugged it's fine. I even bypassed the truck wiring and just jumped a wire to the back of the alternator. And as soon as it starts charging. The idle drops and it starts popping and banging.

I ended up adding a ground cable from a bolt on the alternator bracket straight back to the battery. And another battery cable from the post on the alternator back to the positive on the battery. Seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks for your input 👍

I'm still on the rear cam sensor and havnt changed anything on my set up. Everything runs perfectly fine except for the extended start up time. Its not worth changing for me right now but maybe if I end up doing a cam swap soon, I'll spend the money on a fancy front cover and swap to the front cam sensor.

@@tacogoblin9770I already bought my cam so I'm going to upgrade to a 4X double row timing chain kit and a fancy billet front cover with the front cam sensor. You can source used parts out of like an LS1 with the 1X reluctor and front cam sensor.

Disconnect your usb, open your device manager in windows, plug in your usb and see what port # was added. Go into the PC link software and click up top in one of the drop down menus where is says something like port config then select the same # as the one shown in the device manager

I tried what you said in the device manager it comes up Port 3 so I pick Port 3 on the Daytona setup when I click download from eeprom is coming up that is not valid check your cable or your Smart Box could you possibly tell me what I'm doing wrong about to pull my hair out and I don't have any cuz I'm bald🤣

It will but you will need to repin part of the conversion adapter because the 6014 is pinned different than the 6010/6012

If you want to go carbureted because you like tuning carburetors then yes. If you think it'll just bolt together and run perfect then no, stick with factory efi

So I have the box hooked up as recommended by the install guide...I have no spark. The two red indicator lights come on for a split second when I turn the key and that's it. Any ideas?

Yes, thats normal. They will stay on while its running. How have you verrified that there is no spark?

Well if you already have the sniper, just run that. For the sniper you'll need a high pressure pump and for the carb you need a low pressure high volume pump like a holley/summit blue pump

Stock ignition for a sniper? Ive heard of a few people doing it but I dont know exactly what they have to do. For a regular carb you have to run a custom tune with HP tuners and add a tps to the baseplate

So I got $600 to spend right. I have 4 header bolts broken off-shop charges $20 to remove each broken bolt. Since I have to take my (317)heads off and take them to the shop, I have a couple more questions for you. What upgrades would you consider? Different heads or get cam and spring the 317s? What would you do in my position using the lq4/sniper and $600 spare bucks? Not counting getting bolts removed.

Cant go wrong with a cam kit since the heads are already off, you can get the springs replaced easily. If you can get yourself a set of 862 heads from the junkyard off of a 4.8 or 5.3, thatll bump up torque down low. Not nessesary but it another option.

I know you’re getting tired of me but going to junk yard tomorrow to look for heads are the 862 the best option for me? I see a lot of ppl say 799 or 243 let me know your opinion please. Nobody really on LS swapping around here so heads are only $70.

862 are your best bet for an NA build 👍799 or 243 heads flow more but you get more compression from the 862 so itll run better
