UPDATE #2: The SSLS Adapter Harness to go from a 6010/6012 Harness to the SSLS Box DOES WORK on the MSD 6014 Harness BUT IT HAS TO BE REPINNED. WIRE LOCATIONS ARE NOT THE SAME. Confirmed by Daytona Sensors Tech Line. Part # 119004 shop.daytonasensors.net/t/control-box-adapter-harness-smartspark

Hooked up my 6014 box brand new due to its compatibility with my holley super sniper stealth and it will not read CTS nor will it give me a crank RPM signal on my handheld... spoke with Holley on phone troubleshooting the sniper for nearly 2hrs and the sniper is not the issue. Only thing left is the 6014... wish I'd have seen this video before I purchased. You put in a lot of hard work and info and I truly appreciate it.

A lot of good info thanks. Also watched the video of the SSLS running your 4.8 on the stand, using the rear cam sensor. Older videos, so curious to know if you ever switched to the front sensor? Or did it run fine on the rear? Building a 5.3 Gen 3. And trying to decide if I’ll keep the truck intake or switch to a carb setup. Part of me doesn’t want to deal with a lot of tuning. Then again, I would also need a 4L60E controller if I went with a carb.
@NightWrencher Жыл бұрын
I never ended up swapping, it just wasnt worth the money to me for something that already works. If you're running an auto, a 700r4/4L60 would be the easiest swap. Otherwise, you'll need a trans controller

What about map sensor?. I didnt hear you go over that. I think the msd has a two bar if im correct.
@NightWrencher11 ай бұрын
The MSD uses an internal 2 bar map sensor that can not be serviced and the SSLS uses the stock 1 bar map but can be swapped to any other map sensor like the delphi 2, 2.5 and 3 bar map sensors

Does the MSD work with efi stuff? Or is it carb application only? Looking to get one for my bolt on LS1 with spray for my trans am. But unsure if it’ll work with the efi stock style intake

Hey Kevin here I got a question for u. I recently just switched my carburetor to efi fi tech. On the theottle body efi I need a coil wire. By chance do u no how I can get a coil reading off the daytona smartspark that I'm running?? Or which wire I can tap into to get a reading off the fi tech throttle body
@NightWrencher Жыл бұрын
I am assuming the fitech system needs a coil wire to determine RPM so if that is the case, the smart spark produces a GM hei square wave rpm output that works with most Tachs and modules. I believe its a white wire.
@kevinkeeney3295 Жыл бұрын
@NightWrencher it only has 3 wires for initial startup. The 3 wires are a tach which is blue. The black wire is a coil and red for power to battery. I have the tach wired to the daytona smartspark which was easy. Just don't no how to get a reading from coils itself
@kevinkeeney3295 Жыл бұрын
So should I just splice the coil and tach wire from the throttle body efi to the white wire off the daytona tach wire and it should give me a reading?
@kevinkeeney3295 Жыл бұрын
It says with external cdi box with timing control the black coil wire connects to points input wire from cdi box. If ur running a box without timing control its not used
@NightWrencher Жыл бұрын
Going by what the manual says, blue goes to tach and black is not used

Well, I had issues with the MSD but a lot of other havnt had issues but they also dont drive as much as I do so id say if you want something that youre gonna drive every once in a while, get the MSD, if youre gonna put a lot of miles on it, get the SSLS
@mikef-gi2dg10 ай бұрын
That was an interesting side by side comparison. I have been using MSD stuff for decades, and so far I have had good success. Sounds like bad results has soured you on MSD. If their (MSD) quality has dropped, it's completely understandable, when you lose faith in something, it's hard to get it back. I hope Daytona deliverers the Quality you EXPECT, that would be a great thing. I personally have been dealing with HIGH END electronics for a very very very long time. When I started messing with auto electronics ect...a long time ago, I took the easy route on grounding and wiring. I broke a lot of rules, and I was lucky it worked at all. I know better now. I would STRONGLY SUGGEST, that if anybody, hasn't checked out the Holley and MSD videos on wiring and grounding, do it NOW. I expect it may help solve a bunch of problems. It is that important.
@332ARA3 жыл бұрын
Do you think the biggest problem is off road use for the MSD? I have a street cruiser.
@NightWrencher3 жыл бұрын
Well I can rule out heat and water damage because it was located in my glove box inside the cab installed on the provided insulators. The only thing I can assume is the box loosens up from the vibrations. For a street cruiser I'm sure you'll be fine

@@NightWrencher I haven't run my MSD yet. Still build the swap. Unfortunately I bought it second hand out of warranty. I hope I'm not screwed. If needed does MSD repair old boxes? I guess at that point I crack it open and see what's up. Also I have the edelbrock intake with MSD mount. I thinking of relocating the box. Does the SSS have the same bolt pattern?
@NightWrencher3 жыл бұрын
If you bought it second hand, all bets are off. They'll test it for you at a charge, but if its bad they cant fix it. If you dont mount it on the manifold you need to block off the holes because theyll leak. The SSLS has the same pattern and they even sell a conversion harness in case your MSD went out
@332ARA3 жыл бұрын
@@NightWrencher Well I haven't run it yet so hopefully I have no issues. If it goes bad I'll drill out the rivets and see what's inside. Fingers crossed. Or if you are brave you could open your MSD for a video (once out of warranty of course)

Let me correct something here, two comparable spec products, one is made super cheap for max profits, the other is super reliable still profitable, what’s the difference? One is super greedy and riding half on branding and marketing, the other is trying to make a name so they have to be better than the rest, it’s a cycle countless classic brands now a days are just riding on branding marketing and exposure vendors and retailers, the less money you put into a product the more money to go around to grease everyone else to your side, sad but true and it’s gotten Soo bad, but the light at the end of the tunnel is it leaves open for new companies to form and make a solid better product and still be price competitive let’s go underdogs!
