Man, there is no better teacher than a "lessons learned" session afterward. Most people show their finished product and won't admit to any flaws but that is how we really learn. Thank you sir.

Good video. I appreciate you showing what you did not like as it helps your viewers to make better decisions. We either learn by our mistakes or other's mistakes. I purchased marine metal latches and almost went with the ones you purchased. I'm glad I spent the extra money. I have been debating on what to do to protect the plywood. My carpet comes in in two weeks. I will make sure to grab some oil based paint to seal the wood. The boat does look clean. Good job. I will have to look at your other videos to see the build.

@2:04 the tackle web system... I so need that. It would likely be much more efficient than my current system, called "The pile". And also, I have to say, my recess pedal tray was WITHOUT A DOUBT the single best upgrade I've made to my boat. I paid $72.99 for mine, but if I had to do it again, I'd pay 5X that amount without even giving it a second thought. And by the way... it still looks amazing dude. Great job.

Fix your striped screws with 5 min epoxy and the ones that don’t stay tight too. If you have to remove them you can heat them with a soldering iron and they will back right out or coat screws in wax fill hole with epoxy put screw in let dry really well and tighten them up

You can stop water getting into your hatch with weather stripping, a small hole, and some tubing. Use thin weather stripping along the inside edge of the hatch to create a channel. Drill a small hole in the lowest corner, and run tubing down to your sub floor. It's not perfect, but it's pretty darn close. You could probably lay a bead of silicone or something as well. That's how I fixed mine. Was cheaper and easier than installing catches. Also takes no time. After the season you can pull the stripping out, and install catches if necessary. That was my plan, but tbh the simple fix works great and only looks mildly ghetto, lol.

When I put my live well in years ago I ran it with one pump. To drain mine I just ran a hose to a fitting in the transom and put a drain plug in. I ran an inlet hose in and an overflow out the side of the boat. That way the fish had a supply of fresh lake water at the temp they were caught at. So no stress from a temp change.

Good job on the boat , if you need to get more power you need to get a TORQUEEDO ELECTRIC MOTOR . I just built an electric only boat and the torqueedo 24v motor pushes it along at 10 kmh.

A little tip for those cheap latch screws tightened them all up and shoot some silicone in the whole. Be generous so if you ever have to change them it’s easy to pull a big chunk of silicone out then it is small dot amounts.

I would never be nervous about taking a boat like this out on a corp of engineers lake. Maybe not during extreme conditions unless you have serious bilge pumps going. Jon boats are great fishing platforms for fresh water and help people get out there without breaking the bank. It would be even more sea worthy with a small 5-6 hp outboard so you could get out of dodge if bad weather began to break. I fished 5 years out of a 25 year old glass 14' boat (built in 1970) with it's original 50 Evinrude with no bilge pump on West Point Lake GA and only felt in danger once and that was because I was not paying any attention to the weather because the fishing was so good that day (they were probably biting so hard due to the incoming storm lol)

Whats up man, love your build so far. If you're looking to gain a little power and speed but still be able to fish the electric only lakes, I picked up a motor that would probably fit this build pretty well. Its an electric outboard that claims to be 4hp, and in my experience will move a boat MUCH quicker than any trolling motor. Heres a picture of it on my dinghy, which I use on electric only lakes too. Im of course pushing a lot less weight, but I am consistently the fastest boat on any electric lake. i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/tzdioz3hszsqpz3v43pj.jpg Heres the motor itself: i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/e2fhvyqotpxqzlymg1tf.jpg Its built in a gas outboard motor shell and they just replaced the motor with a huge brushless electric motor. Everything else functions like a real outboard, which makes it a lot nicer than a trolling motor in terms of throttle, tiller functionality, tilt settings, and propeller replacement. With this mounted on the back alone itll probably be significantly faster than the 2 trolling motor setup, and you can just move both trolling motors to the front and run them all for pretty good speed.
