6 Months Of Retirement Cruising

I spent about 10 months living mostly on cruise ships last year, and I've concluded that it wasn't quite as 'luxurious' a way of life as I'd expected. I jumped across 19 different ships, but in hindsight wish I'd spent a little longer on a few of my ships, as I was always jumping around, and packing/unpacking!

yeah investment is the key to sustaining your financial longevity but venturing into any legitimate Investment without a proper guidance of an expert can lead to a great loss too

We are a 6 figure income couple and had very little saved and not much cash lying around the preverbal". '...don't have $500 for an emergency" that was us. The big thing was debt all kinds of it, cars mortgage (although our home isn't a high price one), student loans for our kids, and of course credit cards. One day we just got sick of being broke and went total scorched earth and became frugal overnight. Paid it all off, it took almost 5 years but now we have no debt and this year our savings rate is 50% on basically the same income that had us perpetually broke. So for us it is mainly staying out of debt and watching our spending, at first it was a real effort to save in our HISA and 401Ks but now it's actually fun watching our money grow. No car or vacation or neighborhood is worth being broke or financially unstable.

1 a month works best for me. Somewhere between 7-22 days. Starlink on ships makes a huge difference especially on a trans Atlantic. I think it is nice to send the laundry out and it comes back all folded. Having status on lines helps too with the cost.

New York may be a great port, but it takes two days to get to the Caribbean, and two days to get back. Not for me. I prefer to sail from Ft. Lauderdale.

You don't seem to have considered the issue of medical care, which becomes an increasingly important consideration with the aging process. My wife and I live in a retirement community with about 200 residents. There is at least one ambulance arrival daily! This is not even considering the increasing need for routine medical visits and specialty care which is inevitable with aging. Try and get these services on a cruise ship.

Honestly I prefer the newer ships, I need to feel like I’m on vacation with all the nice things. I miss making my own coffee if I’m away for too long on any vacation especially a cruise.

Most cruise ships have a laundry service where you fill up a laundry bag and place it on your bed along with a itemized list of the clothes articles and it will be picked up, washed and dried and returned within 24 hours. Certain things you can was in the bathroom sink with a bit of detergent and hung up to dry.... you can do this overnight.

Just can't help remarking how (potentially) ironic the title is. If you ignore "Life" as redundant, it becomes "Grounded Cruises", and of course "Grounded" in its simplest meaning ("on the ground") would never include cruises!

We are doing 3 back to bank, staring in April, a TA on Ascent, from Fort Lauderdale to Barcelona, the 3 day break before boarding MSC Grandiosa for 7 day Med cruise. The fly to Heathrow, bus to Southampton ten onto P & O Britannia for 14 day Northern Europe/ Scandinavia cruise. 40 days total…we’ll see how it goes
