Wow, thank you! Your comment has made my morning. I film these videos mostly alone and without much feedback. I just want to share knowledge because I learn a lot from videos and I'm a visual learner myself. I never know what people think of the videos because there are so few likes and very few comments. I appreciate the feedback very much.

Do you know how to tell if you've got a GREAT IDEA!!!! -how simply and obvious it is! I had thought of this but assumed that a filter would be needed. I never thought to just try it! (Probably I'm not alone) THANK YOU!!!!!! This does make everything better. Sunstone should look into buying refurbished phones and selling those with Loc-line camera arms, this a VALUE ADDED idea! THANK YOU for sharing your genius!!!!

You've made my December with your comment!!! I dream up little hacks and ideas while vacuuming, showering,...all the time, to a point of being accused of being a frazzle brain. Often when I share my ideas that I'm totally excited about, people look at me like I'm crazy. I've stopped pitching ideas to people for feedback and prefer to film so I can avoid seeing the confusion or boredom in their facial response. I also film alone for the same reason. It is always energizing when I get this kind of encouragement. Thank you for watching and especially for this comment. And agreed - Sunstone should sell loc-line camera arms. I love the idea.

How amazing !!!! Thank you very much . That is exactly my issue that I need magnifying glasses for making my jewelry and this will fix my issue. Does it ever becomes an issue where it is more challenging to do it and access the jumping or chain to zap it?
@stonesandfindings
@stonesandfindings Жыл бұрын
You are so welcome! It does become more of an issue when you're trying to zap anklets or necklaces in permanent jewelry. I find that we do so few of them that we can just wear tinted safety glasses and stick our faces up close, if we can't find a friend to hold the phone for us. That and trying to zap after a few glasses of wine.

I am so happy to read this. I love the welder and what it can do, beyond permanent jewelry - that's why I bought it years ago. However, I also struggled at the beginning. Now as my eye sight is going (argh, eye roll), it's slowly becoming an issue with reading and doing intricate things. I am just pleased that i can help others while I find solutions for myself. Thank you for this note. I find it very encouraging.

Hi, Dana. Just to clarify, does it mean I don't even have to use a welding eyeglass? If yes, this is absolutely an eye saver. You're such a genius!
@stonesandfindings
@stonesandfindings 7 ай бұрын
Yes, exactly. You don't need to wear darkening glasses if you look through a smart phone/tablet screen. The trick is that you lose depth perception with a screen. Look at the electrode and secure placement just a little bit away from where you want to weld - before you weld. THen look behind the screen and move in to weld. Yes, it is an eye saver. ALso, if your eyesight isn't very good, you can set your screen on magnification. You should also ask your clients if they want to film the process. 2 birds with one stone! THey get to post and tag you on the platform and they don't have to wear protective darkening glasses (less to disinfect!).

I am new to this (haven't started it yet, just researching about starting up). Do you still need to wear the darkening or safety glasses if you use your cell phone magnification? Similar question regarding your customer - if they want to record, do they wear the glasses? Thank you for your video! This also helps me decide which welder to buy :)
@stonesandfindings
@stonesandfindings Жыл бұрын
If you are looking through the smartphone screen, you do not need darkening or safety glasses. Your customer won't have infrared eye damage from looking at a couple of zaps. However, having safety goggles for customers to wear is always good optics (pun intended)

Thankyou very helpful brilliant hack and nice one for sharing. You could put a box around the phone for extra protection with a hole cut out for the camera. I used to do Vehicle welding but for many hours at a time. I once got a burnt face from just using googles as I couldn't get into a small space with my full face mask on. I don't think the amount of time carrying out Jewellery TIG would cause this, I am a belt and braces person. I have now started to make jewellery as lost the love for vehicles and need a new challenge.
@stonesandfindings
@stonesandfindings 16 күн бұрын
Thank you for this note. I would say if you're doing strong welding, this would be necessary. For micro welding, I've never had a big spark where things went flying, which is not the case for industrial welding. However, it is always best to be cautious.

Have fun and good luck. The thing with a screen is that it doesn't give you depth perception - just need to practice with hand placement and try to look from the side for depth and then through the screen for final zapping.

I bought it through Amazon - I listed it at the bottom. It's Amazon in Canada, but I think they probably have that in every country. They're inexpensive and any cell phone electronics gadget store has some variation of it - you can go and try them out and see what you like.

Cool 👏👏👏👏 Can you recommend a cheaper Micro Welder?
@stonesandfindings
@stonesandfindings 9 ай бұрын
I've read mixed reviews on safety issues and people are upgrading from some out there - so they don't have much good to say either. Sorry I can't help much here. I would go and research through reviews in focus groups. THat might be your best bet. If you're doing permanent jewelry, I would think about liability issues. It is much better if you buy from a maker with deep pockets who will cover lawsuits if something goes wrong. If you are just welding finished jewelry and won't come into contact with any clients who might get injured, then any online welder with decent reviews should work. Good luck.

really? From micro welding? or from welding??? I have been using their micro welder for years - way before permanent jewelry was a thing. I have never had flying molten metal flying anywhere. However, I know traditional welding has that danger.

Let me say thank you again for the great idea. I have been using an "other" brand i.e. from Amazon for a few months. I am trying to weld 1/8 inch brass tubing to sheet brass. I am using fairly high power setting. I put an autodarkening lens on my microscope and it is about 2 inches from the weld. it is definitely getting some pitting. I tried to post a reply with a link to a picture, but I do not see my reply, perhaps KZbin did not like a link. Iwill post this and then another post with just the link

It's micro welding, not industrial welding with massive flying sparks. I asked the Apple store manager (can't speak for other brands) and I have also been welding for a long time. The major worry is dropping the phone and cracking the screen if you don't clip it correctly.
