I am just now seeing this video 6 years after you posted it, and it is still an excellent tutorial on how to make a tote bag. This was SO well done, Sherrill. Thank you ever so much for all the time it took you to compose this great video! I've already started my tote bag by creating the paper patterns. Can't wait to finish it!

OMG you are the ONLY one that actually shows exactly what to do and how - and the ONLY one who I can follow and really come out with something!!! I so appreciate the time you take!! Now - feel free to disregard this and I will still be your forever fan - but is there ANY way you would consider doing a quilted jacket? I know there are some easier ways, through like a kimono pattern or I have seen from a sweatshirt - but only you could make it actually understandable. Again I thank you for all you share!

I made this bag last night. You made a perfect tutorial. I tweaked a few things. Still did 6 pockets . But I put one of the outer pockets on the liner, instead of both on the outer body. I also added a zipper pocket inside on the liner. It made a beautiful bag. I used duck cotton I bought at hobby lobby for $3/yard and for the strapping I used faux leather. I'd love to email you a picture. It really came out lovely. Oh yeah, I did a magnetic closure.
@TaraKirbyKunkler2 жыл бұрын
Did you put the magnet closure on the lining at the end of the project?

I was my mom's assistant but had never made a bag before watching you lots of times stopping at the steps doing them moving on to the next step doing it moving on etc..... I have a bag! Being an assistant for years I was able to make it a little bigger and putting the pockets on the inside, but needed to see and hear the steps to give me the confidence to do it myself due to my mom not being here anymore. Thanks again

Another option is to leave your opening for turning along the top instead of the lining bottom Then when you sew your 1/8th inch around the top it will close up the seam. You can use seam tape to hold the opening perfectly together. I've used this technique on many bags that are several years old now and they are holding up well.

@TheSewingRoomChannel Жыл бұрын
Hi Bevy. Yes you can still save it. Stitch the 2 pieces together using a 1/4 inch seam. Then fold it in half. Continue following the instructions. The pocket will sit a little lower on the bag. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
