Paul grabbed 6 popular picks from the Music Villa showroom to see if there would be a difference in tone. NEXT; we'll try some different thicknesses and price points, but this demonstration is simply to show a variety of our favorite and best-selling picks.

This is the one area where I spend whatever it takes. The Dunlop Primetone picks with the grip are where my journey ended. Dry hands, sweaty hands, the pick doesn’t slip, and they feel like real picks - not some sort of unnatural plasticky abomination. Add in their hand-beveled edges and they’re ready to go out of the box (bag, really). I put some in every guitar case and everywhere around the house I might look for a pick. Very highly recommended!

I’m thinking one chooses a pick for how one likes to dance across the strings. Heavier picks have less click.. lighter ones click yet have quicker response. Sometimes it’s just your mood. Can definitely over analyze this topic. 🎸🎶🎵🎣🎧

Awesome to hear you play some Neil Young Quentin! I’m a bit of a pick snob and hoarder. I love tortoise shell picks and have a large collection. I gave Blue Chip picks a chance and didn’t care for the one I bought. Maybe one day I’ll try a different model. What’s your personal preference for picks Quentin?

I tried out Tusq picks on my acoustic and you could really tell the differences when you went from thin to thick. However, I stick with Prime Tone Standard shape .88 for strumming and 1.3 for picking with the 1.4 jazz pick for lead on my electric.

Seemed like the Fender picks had a very minor fuller sound. Also, really like the guitar on the back wall!

Why I like bluechip is has less string drag that I can feel during flatpicking across the strings. On strumming a lot sound very close in tone.

There is definitely a difference between the picks. Make sure you're listening to this on headphones or good speakers because it's subtle but it's there. It's much more noticeable in person. Take a super thin pick and strum a little then pick up a heavy and and strum the same. Guaranteed the thinner pick sounds brighter (not necessarily better, that's where preference comes in).

Word has it that Django Reinhardt often used to play with a button, so many of his disciples often played with thick, round-ish picks.

I transitioned from electric guitar to acoustic. It took me forever to adapt the pick I used to different instruments and stylings. Electric? Dunlop Ultex 1.14mm or 2.0 Jazz lll shape. Acoustic? Dunlop Jazz lll nylon original or stiffo picks. As for a test pick when making an acoustic purchasing decision, I take a Dunlop Eric Johnson Jazz lll pick with me as it gets me the best sound out of an acoustic guitar. I am still trying other picks by other manufacturers to better understand which pick produces which sounds, but my preferred shape is a Jazz lll shape.

Nice video! Maybe i need more coffee, but i didnt really hear much difference here. I use 5 different picks. For picking single note parts i like to use Dunlop Ultex 2.00mm for a snappy and clear sound, Dunlop Gator 1.5 has a warmer and mellower sound, Dunlop 1.14 Maxi-Grip is in between those.. For strumming i like to use thinner picks between 0.4mm - 0.6mm. Also worth mention is that It's not only the material and thickness of the pick that makes a difference, but also the way you hold it. I bought some picks made of rosewood, blackheart, bubinga, maple and mahogany but i really didnt like the sound of these, but i sure did look good 😊

Nathan Morgan I’ve been playing 50 years and haven’t spent $30 on all the picks I’ve used in that time. I don’t believe hype and I don’t drink the koolaid of every fad that comes along. I have better things to do with my money!

@@davidm.kesslerfineart1717 Picks, capos and accessories have moved on in 50 years my friend. I have been playing that length of time too. Appreciation of sound, guitar voicing, and expectations have moved forward in leaps and bounds, we have never had it so good. What was acceptable 50 years ago (like nylon saddles and nuts, limited choices of picks and strings (mostly bad), etc.) just doesn't wash now. Time to adjust yourself to checking out what's out there if you're a serious player. I have. Picks are a LOT better and offer a LOT more in terms of tone and quality I assure you, it's no hype.
