I was lucky enough to get the yellow ones at my local Kroger and I was blown away by the sweetness compared to the others I have tried. By far the best one.

Nice description of the varieties. Don't forget that the seeds will be individual plants. In other words, if the flower was cross pollenated, each seed will be a slightly different variety of the mother plant.
@K8Elise5 жыл бұрын
I hope people at home know that the ones on the mainland that you can buy at the grocery store are much different than if you can buy them where they're grown. The fruit only has a shelf life of 3 days so to stock grocery stores they're picked super premature and then preserved, so there's barely any flavour. If you get a chance to try them where they're actually grown it's a world of difference!

I've had the same experience as your coworker. I've tried them twice to see if it was a fluke but really big disappointment for such a cool looking fruit. @downunderfulla60014 жыл бұрын
Halil Acikgoz just personal preference, for me it’s red for flavour that I love, then yellow. I find out of these 3 white has the least flavour. I also feel that the shop bought fruit can be anywhere from 50%-70% less flavour than one grown at home
@halilacikgoz78654 жыл бұрын
@@downunderfulla6001 yeah I just received my red red order, it cost about 6,20 euros a piece and it still had no flavour. A cactusfruit is vert tasty but in the countries they grow they are even more sweet and that difference makes it amazing. The brain does receive more flavour because the country has something with the air or pressure or height idk anymore. But would a red red taste like a cactus fruit? Or does it have almost no flavour? Is it just my order because they are underipe cut and then dilvered to me? That's something I would like to know. Thx you

The flesh is more purplish color not as deep red as what you have shown and the shape is different. Anyway, i love dragon fruit so I planted 16 varieties in my garden incl sugar dragon, delight too and another yellow variety, the australian golden yellow.
@jaredf.65324 жыл бұрын
Haribo Berries I believe you are comparing the taste between the sugar dragon and the candy berries you mentioned. I really love those candy berries a lot so if I happen to find a sugar dragon. I'll keep its seeds to grow. I have just had the vietnam white, Ecuador palora, and I think the red laverne. Vietnam white tasted like water to me and didnt have much taste. I had the red laverne, but it's been maybe 2 years since I've had one and I cant remember the taste. The Ecuador parlora I just had today. It taste like the opposite of a kiwi flavor to me. A kiwi is very tart with little sweetness, so the Ecuador Palora tasted very sweet light sugar with little tartness to it. I have saved seeds for the Vietnam white and the Ecuador Palora. As of rn I currently have the Vietnam White in a germinating sprout stage which makes me very excited since this is the first time in my life I'm growing plants from the seed by myself and I'm very excited. I just started to prep the Ecuador Palora for their germination rn and and waiting patiently. I'm just excited and this gives me something to do while I'm currently in quarantine too as well doing this COVID-19 pandemic.

You never mention the fragrance? Do any of those you tasted actually have a heady fragrance? I normal one I grow here a bit north of Brisbane in Queensland Australia is a very dark purple flesh but a huge fruit. But it has at least as much fragrance as it does flavour. The fragrance is almost musky and the taste is very sweet and quite strong. I wouldn't say there are any of the background flavours you mentioned like grape, melon, etc. Just plain sweet but strongly scented and flavoured.

@@studiowine I am happy to send cuttings if you are in Australia. Unfortunately, our quarantine and customs regulations forbid me from sending any plant material out of the country or receiving similar material from overseas. Even when sending to or from other Aussie states. We are just as strict on plants as we are on people spreading Covid!! :P But if you are here in mainland Australia, then I would send you rooted cuttings which I always have plenty of. I am just about ready to get a huge Asian style trellis put in to grow commercially starting with 100 advanced rooted cuttings fertigated (fed via irrigation dripper). I'll have 4 varieties to begin with. Takes the Aussie public a while to get onto 'new' fruits and Dragonfruits are still 'new' to many Aussies. But the restaurants get onto things very fast then the public copies the chefs.

How can I order these? Can they be left in the winter outside and still survive even snow? This is my favorite fruit.
@TheBorgCollective4 жыл бұрын
You won't want to leave them outside during winter if you're further north than zone 10. They will not survive if left under 35 degrees F, and that's pushing it. If you're trying to grow them in a cool climate, you can put them in a pot and bring them out during the day in spring and back inside at night keeping the temp above 60 degrees minimum. Summer you should be fine leaving it out, just watch the amount of rain you're getting. Check out his video on growing them as it will give you more info on watering. Treat Fall/Autumn the same as Spring, and when Winter comes, keep it indoors with a strong grow light keeping the room temp around 70 degrees or so (this should keep the plant growing). If the plant starts growing thing and really green, you're not getting enough light and will need to increase the amount of light it gets during the day. Just remember that these are vines and they get LARGE. They have to get large in order to fruit, so keep it portable as best you can. Also, depending on what type you get, most are SELF STERILE, meaning they need another plant to cross pollinate with, so watch what type you're buying!
