Three months ago i found sansevieria starfish in the street. I hate sansevierias but it looked ok so i took it. I did everything you said in the video - i grow it in the sun, big pot, water twice a week, regular soil. In this period i got 3 new leaves and 2 pups. I am amazed by its growth.

That's the best advice on snake plant care. When I came to stay in Ghana, I learned that people plant the snake plants to demarcate the land, and these plants are not even afraid of bushfires. They are also used to produce a strong fiber from the leaves. I found several varieties of snake plants growing in a small forest around my house. I don't know if anyone planted them there, not likely. They become kind of dormant in dry season, but burst to life with the rains. They also bloom with beautiful white or lavender fragrant flowers. I planted some of them in the garden, but quickly realised that it was a bad idea, they spread very quickly and completely take over the garden. If you grow them in pots, you need to prune the pups on time, otherwise they brake the pot. In optimal conditions these plants can become monsters!

I have quite a wide variety of snake plants that I have been collecting for the last six months. It has become my obsession. And I have learned a lot about how to care for them. But you are absolutely correct about the soil. I discovered one of my prized snake plants was actually dying because it was not getting enough water because the soil was so porous. I found a better succulent potting soil that actually absorbs water better and it is now thriving. Thank you for your education on the native growth of snake plants. I am a new subscriber from Dallas Texas.

I got a big snake plant out of a dumpster, didn't think much of it, looked like a normal plain green one, fast forward 2 years (I put it in a big pot and wheel it outside every summer and let the rain take care of it) and it's growing all kinds of new pups and huge long leaves, and changing colors, turns out I think it's a 'Moonshine' snake plant which I would have to search for months for a pup of a decent price if I wanted to rebuy. Gorgeous silvery long leaves, and she was free!

This video is completely true. I grow an orchid that grows in the same range and has very simaler foliage. It's called Oeceoclades Maculata (African Monk orchid) I keep it in the sunniest warmest place and I water it thoroughly when it dries. It spikes and blooms alot for me and is currently in spike. It's ALWAYS growing. It's known as a naturalized invasive and is found in South America and the southern states and Florida. When I was in Owerri I noticed a few places that had snake plants as hedges and I thought it was so brilliant and gorgeous.

@@TheMillennialPlantDad I should also say I grow my Oeceoclades Maculata in a mix of Vermiculite and Coco-coir-peat (the stuff in bricks thats soil like) 30%Vermi - 70%Coco. also believe the sellar picked them from a particular place in southwest florida as they are an 'invasive' there. The Vermiculite is spongy and rugged and releases nutrients slowly when fertilizer is added over time like a slow release. I just recently threw in a few osmocotes slow release on top. This plant was found under leaf litter near sandy soil so I had to mimic that indoors. Michorrhizal also helps ALOT. I will share it on instagram soon and share the pictures with you.

Great information and gorgeous snake plants. Everyone should have at least one in their collection. They like the part of the world where I live, and sometimes can be seen in the wild. Thank you for saying that about the soil! I have my succulents growing in a well draining potting mix that is more fern fiber heavy. They absolutely love it. My potting mix consists of rice hulls, fern fiber, small orchid bark, pumice, biochard. They have been growing very well. I actually also place them in decent size pots and will repot them when they out grow those. Like I do with my tropical plants.

I love my snake plants! I have learned over time just what you have said. I was looking for a Whales Fin for a year but the ones I saw were cracked or the tip was gone or other damage. I finally found one about 4 months ago and gave it the usual care. From a beautiful yet dehydrated plant it is so beautiful now. It was in a 4in pot and started to deform it. I put it in a deep 8in pot two weeks ago and it is so happy. I have 10 plants and am on the lookout for more. Also you are a treasure. I look forward to your videos.

I’ve had my snake plant for almost 3 years. It will be 3 in February. I’ve always grown it in regular soil with a lil extra perlite for drainage and my lil Gobi has grown up. He is wearing his big boy pants this year. Gave me 2 pups and as big and beautiful as he want to be. I water him throughly and let him dry out about 75% before I water again. Now he is in full sun in a south facing window so he sucks down the water like it’s happy hour. He’s currently in a 15 inch pot. I’m so curious how big I can get him

I have several varieties of snake plants, and I believe there is a balance in watering properly. - None of the snake plants I have ever owned liked sitting is wet soil. - While some people want to advise to water once a month, I do agree with watering your plant when you notice the soil is dry. - What I have found, for my collection, is to water the plant well about every 8 to 9 days (if the soil is dry -- indoor conditions fluctuate). - Also, I believe none of my snake plants -- (coming from nurseries) -- are accumulated to full sun all day long. That is something I am going to have to gradually introduce. Please take care.
