Nice. People often underestimate financial advisors' importance. Over 50 years of data reveal that those who work with advisors typically earn more than those who go it alone. We've had leaflets as well, but only this week. However, ours was more confusing as it was addressed as "you are either in my old or my new constituency" (our constituency boundaries are being drastically changed for this election). Having said that, we've had a few pro-Tory leaflets, etc in the last few months anyway (standard local election/general election year stuff), so nothing that jumped out as indicating a specific time period. I do wonder if he only told certain people, i.e. not the backbenchers who he wants to get rid of.

I think the main reason is the belief that the UK population are stupid. That 14 years of misrule can be undone by the fact summer means people won't see crippling heating bills, there is less pressure on the NHS, and that if it's sunny everyone will be in a nice mood. And honestly, it's probably worth more than a few % points on the day.

Inflation came out still ahead of forecasts so interest rates might not be cut before the election, and the recent immigration figures are still high, which came out just before the announcement. Plenty of negatives which may still be fresh offsetting potential upsides
@DrG65199
@DrG65199 23 күн бұрын
I take your points as valid. But the implication (population is stupid) of your point is that this can be solved by non Tories. Isn't this stupid? The issues you discuss are structural issues about the UK populace and our economy. Too many people living longer, too few persons working, too many young people complaining of asinine "mental health" issues and not working or claiming benefits, too little business growth and entrepreneurship. No, taxing companies and those earning more than 100k won't solve the issue but in fact worsen it. Even labour admits they don't have much room for economic improvements. So who is really thinking the public is stupid? At least some Tories are willing to be honest about these problems. No lib dem labour or green party is, instead blaming it all on the rich.

@bazzatron9482
@bazzatron9482 23 күн бұрын
I gotta object to your take of "asinine mental health issues" here - it belies your total naïvité on the subject. If an entire generation are mentally ill, measured by internationally agreed standards set by people who aren't - there's something bigger going on that "aww poor babies don't want to get a job". If the younger millennials, gen Z and Alpha weren't patronised or dismissed, had some stake in the union and their future, and weren't so utterly crippled by the least affordable student debts, rent, energy, travel, and food costs we've ever seen - *perhaps* depression, anxiety, and hopelessness wouldn't be the status quo. Your writing reeks of "I struggled, why shouldn't they?" - which is both an assumption I'm making, and also ludicrous. If this isn't why you feel this way, I'd be very interested to find out how you came to this conclusion. Mentally sound individuals do not think that they have mental health problems.

I think you're missing something else aswell. Voter suppression. Students are doing A-Levels, University exams, moving Uni accommodations, and going home to visit their families in early July, something which will make it difficult for them to vote for Labour as that demographic overwhelmingly does.
@hannahk1306
@hannahk1306 23 күн бұрын
Exams should be over by July; some may be moving or away then, but not all (it's still quite early) and can apply for postal votes if needed; students can be registered at both their home and university addresses, so they can choose where they'd prefer to vote. So whilst it may affect some students, I think the vast majority will still be able to vote as they wish to.

it would actually help the Conservatives more if the Students were not at home. If they vote at home in rural areas they swing the vote left, in cities which are likely to be more left already, it has less of an impact. So to skew the vote with students they'd have wanted to call the vote a little earlier.

@@Infinitystar225 Because the right-wing government is afraid of losing support to the even-more-right-wing Reform UK, the government tries to make policies which will keep the loyalty of people who might be tempted to vote Reform. So Reform has an indirect influence on government policy, as the Conservatives try to out-Reform the Reform party. What Reform does or says might matter, in terms of what the Govt might do to head it off. Meanwhile, no-one cares about the Greens or Lib Dems. The Greens are seen (fairly or not) as a tiny single-issue party - if you vote for them, you were probably going to do that regardless and it still won't make any difference in the UK's voting system. Perception of the Lib Dems is that the one time they got into joint power, they just went along with their bigger partner and Lib Dem voters didn't see anything in exchange for their votes (I guess the Lib Dems couldn't point to many instances where they talked the Tories down). If you dislike Labour/Conservatives that much, just vote for the opposite party unless you happen to be in a constituency where the Lib Dems could win - and there aren't enough of those.

@@mrmr446 No racist party would allow Britain to become even 2% non-British let alone in 20% non-British that it is now. Racist parties would never allow blacks and browns into their ranks either. This is racism. Now let's go to nationalism. They aren't nationalists either. Nationalism means that they will have a hard stance on immigration. They won't allow unassimilated migrants to stay. However Brits that are of different ethnicity but have fully assimilated ought to stay in the country and be accepted. Nationalism also entails to not give power to globalist organisations over national policy. Now Torries support homosexual marriage, are full fledged feminists, are very diverse in their ranks, love immigration, are pro-abortion, do not hold Christian values and Christian based policies, are globalists. All these things make them socially progressive. Now they are also against gun ownership, pro censorship and anti speech laws and pro lockdowns. So they're not even conservative libertarians in that sense. Now I said they're moderately right wing economically but that's also a stretch. Let's leave it at that though.
