You really got to adjust your standards accordingly to price. For price, the 86 is a great value. I’m on the fence with this car. I’m definitely an enthusiast, ever since I bought my 240sx in 2000 and did the SR swap and the whole 9. I almost want to chase that experience, lightweight, rwd, manual, etc. I’m just hoping it doesn’t feel too slow, but I have hopes it won’t. I’m currently in a 335i w upgraded suspension, fbo, tuned, xhp stage 3. I love driving it so much, to the point where I come up with places to go and make excuses to drive it. It’s getting up there in miles though and it’s slowly transitioning to my fun weekend car. My other vehicle is older, always overheating, and I need a good commute car. This video is 6 reason to buy one lolol. As a new GR86 owner (1 month in) coming from a really clean 2000 BMW e36 (yup no tech) & my wifes auto Kia Cerato, my opinion is that the car is perfect for a sportier daily. I also got the 2025 model in manual which has adaptive cruise, game changer for me but I'm pushing 50 yrs old for reference lol. Had lots of sports bikes etc over the years so not chasing speed, that gets you in trouble real quick. Upsides (as a daily): - Plenty of space for a couple and 2 small dogs - Nice blend of old and new tech, love the big dials - Handles like a beast and not stupid power ...GR Yaris was too much for me for fun on the street - Looks like an Aston in silver - Insurance is under $1K in Australia, my wife's Kia cost more! (NA and 4 seats ftw!) - Love the eyesight, perfect blend of safety tech for daily and you can turn it off. - Little loud on HWY but not stupid. Am going to insulate torsion bars as per reddit thread - Nice balance of "raw feel" from the engine - you know it's there, but it's not in your face all the time (I'm yet to disconnect the audio, but am in break in so under 5k RPM still) Downsides: - Fuel economy, I'm getting 10L / 100km in Australia which is liveable, but that is absolutely babying it during break in period. - Oil starvation, I'd love to track it (mate has a lotus 410) but that scares the heck out of me, so will prob never see a track - Clutch needs adjusting, should be easy fix If it just had an "economy mode" it'd be perfect with today's premium fuel prices ...but, considering the insurance and service costs of like $300 a year it's amazing. Just don't watch the fuel bars lol.

I have the first gen with 4X 255 width 200TW tires, high capacity suspension, clutch pack LSD, many chassis geometry tweaks (including anti geometries), locked steering rack, small weight reductions and more. It is very fast at my local track, much faster than OEM Veloster N, 370Z, GR86, Tesla model S, WRX, etc, it pulls very high g-forces, 1.6g+ with spikes above 2gs, the center of gravity is very low. The biggest weakness was the OEM Torsen differential, it is unbelievably bad at the limit. Only now I feel like adding power, before that it would have make the weaknesses even worst. Great car if you plan on using aftermarket components, it feels so good now.

Good review. I'm looking at a BRZ as my GLI is too sensor happy, too much tech, too much numbness for the luxury feel, too big, not fun enough, and insanely expensive and time consuming to upgrade - eg coilovers isn't just undo top hat, bolts from knuckle and install. The GLI needs shroud removed over top hat, either axle nut or drive axle housing removed to remove the strut, and a dcc canceling system. Oh and I need a set of triple square tools $$$. Oh I long for my old Honda em1 - so beautiful to work on.
@716Flat4 Жыл бұрын
the new 2022 brz is much better, and a simple small procharger will make these things absolute street monsters. You keep that driver experience but gain all the power BRZ owners and onlookers have been complaining about for years. the mx5 suffers similar issues, super light and a true drivers care with wonderful feedback, zippy but not really fast. a little boost goes a long way. I have had the pleasure of being in a couple procharged older brzs now, not one of the new years yet...they really are everything you want in a car...except it snows here. A stock brz can be managed in the snow with winter tires, but a procharged one is a real challenge. For that reason, people like me end up getting a larger heavier awd wrx with a lot more power that cant out drag a stock brz just to be able to play year round. Seriously, if I could figure out how to 70/30 r/f awd a brz somehow, I really feel it wouldlt rob people of the driver experience, although it would alter it a lot. more money than its worth tho right. If anyone out there loves the BRZ but dogs the power this is what I can say...they FEEL fast behind the wheel, even bone stock. They feel really fast with a little boost and frankly, they get sketchy fast with moderate boost. Trust me, you can have your cake and eat it too with a conservative boost...and you will absolutely roast every single one of your sti/wrx owning friends...much to our upset.

My 3 weeks of ownership review, I did not buy the car as a daily driver. I would not drive one everyday. It is not a comfortable suspension and you feel every bump on the road. Its a fun car to have in the garage that does not burn the bank, like the supra. I am not too concerned about the RTV issue. I won't be driving it a lot and certainly not on the track. Everyone's engine would have burnt out before i have serious miles on it. I get the thumbs up from other drivers and I notice other cars trying to get closer, to see what this car is. I wish toyota made it into a liftback like Celica or Nissan S13(240sx) were. There isnt a single liftback 2+2 coupe on the market and it would make it infinetly more practical. Subaru wanted to make shooting brake BRZ at one point they made a concept in 2013 for it called Cross Sports. We were so close to having a very practical sportscar for little money, buy either they couldnt because toyota didnt allow them or they did not feel like investing into making it into production. 6:36 honestly surprised with this bit about the steering, when I heard the GR Corolla was going to have electric steering I was expecting it to be worse than the GR 86. I've only driven the GR Corolla, so I thought the GR 86 would have just as heavy steering with more feedback. The car I drove before was an aw11 mr2, and it had completely unassisted steering, and honestly going from it to the GRC was surprisingly not a big jump, the GRC has relatively heavy steering, but not enough to strain my arms as sometimes has happened with low speeds on my AW11.

#Jubbal&Cars : I appreciate this video and your assessment. I intend on buying a 2024 BRZ Limited in Automatic. I am not sure if you will see this comment, if you do I would love your input. First off the ONLY reason I am getting an Automatic is that I had extensive right shoulder surgery; so an automatic is a necessity 100% over desire. Secondly I am getting the BRZ over the GR86 due to the motor being a Subaru; I have read many times that people with GR86's that had engine problems (had dealer problems too). Some Toyota dealers/mechanics are not familiar with the Subaru engine enough to properly address some engine issues (I understand that this would depend on the specific mechanic and their experience level). I just feel that a Subaru mechanic will be more familiar with the engine. Lastly I am in my late 50s (semi-retired Law Enforcement). I will not be driving this on a track OR pushing the limits of the vehicle; I just want a car that looks great and is super fun to drive. Most of my driving is within 15 miles from my house in any direction; and I will likely drive around 4k miles a year. (My Family vehicle is a 2018 Highlander Le Plus; this vehicle will be just my "fun" car.) With my specific circumstances in mine; would you recommend or not recommend the 2024 BRZ? I agree on the last one. While GR86 is an amazing car in the modern age, coming from an Evo 9, it lacked the raw driving sensation that the Evo had. And Because the Evo is technically a 4 door souped up sedan, and the GR86 being a lightweight 2-door coupe known to be fun to drive, to thrash around, I expected a little more when test driving one. There is also something about the drivers feedback from the road surface seemed lacking was a big point to me probably due to being an EPS over hydraulic (at least in stock form). There are something you can fix, such as exhaust, and headers to have more aggressive sound, and stiffer suspension, but is this something you can easily fix? Or its something that I should buy an older car like from the 90s-early 2000s era again.
