Had Margaret been able to marry Group Captain Peter Townsend she may very well have been a whole lot happier,though considerably less wealthy. Her inheritance from her father,King George VI,would not have sustained her rather luxurious lifestyle. As it was,her eventual marriage to Anthony Armstrong Jones in 1960 didn't last even whilst producing two children ... so perhaps she simply was incapable of true inner happiness.

I find it so funny the Anglican Church made such a big deal about Edward marrying Wallis and forcing him to choose between the monarchy and her yet their whole church was started because the founder King Henry VIII wanted a divorce

Technically they didn’t divorce. The marriage was annulled by Henry without Catherine’s consent, leaving Henry free to remarry again, but in Henry’s eyes it would be his first marriage.

Peter Philips's wife,Autumn,a Canadian, converted from Catholicism to Protestantism and this was only a relatively short time back. Peter Philips is the son and eldest child of Anne,the Princess Royal and eldest grandchild of the Queen. He is 13th in line to the British throne so it's highly unlikely he'll be king,lol. But had his wife not converted it would be impossible for him to ever become king. And all because old King Henry VIII couldn't get his own way and annul his marriage to Katherine of Aragon some 5 centuries back.

+JohnPaul Dixon Peter would have only been out of the succession until very recently, when the Succession to the Crown Act 2013 took effect. A dynast can now have a Roman Catholic spouse, but he or she cannot BE a Roman Catholic--which is why the Earl of St. Andrews and Prince Michael are now back in the line. Lord Nicholas Windsor (the Duke's youngest son) remains out, as he converted to the Roman Church.
