I am a senior citizen, but somehow I managed to avoid that black hole all seniors seem to fall into! How did they get to even be seniors if they were always this gullible? 🙄
@SeniorSafetyAdvice9 ай бұрын
Well, I think it's more like they weren't always this gullible. After working 12 years as an Occupational Therapist in the field of geriatrics, my own theory is that judgement and reasoning are usually the first things to go as we get older. Certainly not for every single person, but the majority of people seem to go down that route. That's why I always urge everyone to talk to others that they trust and listen to what they say about the situation because you can't always trust your own thoughts about it. Growing older is not for the weak of heart.

Esther, excellent video! These are such practical safeguards. They reveal the diabolical nature of these scams. And to prey on the vulnerablity of people, especially the elderly, is so disgusting. You and Robin are doing a great work with your channel. Congrats on almost 500 subs! 😊👍

Oh thank you for such a lovely comment! And yes, it is disgusting how low scammers (thieves really) can go. I know people can do crazy things when they are hungry but I have to believe there are better ways. And yes, almost 500! We are so grateful for each and every one of them and look forward to creating more helpful videos. Thanks again for such kind words.

Good stuff! This goes for all of us. I am always telling people to never give any information.

Exactly! The best thing to do is to hang up or delete the email (don't even open it if you can) and just go directly to the website or call the company and take it from there.

In my area there have been boys calling pretending to be your grandson needing bail money or that they've had a car wreck and need money to fix their car. I've gotten these calls before and I always ask them how I could have a grandson when I've never had children. My mom tells them her only grandson is 5 years old . The scammers always hang up. Most of the time you can tell it's a scam by the Indian/Middle Eastern accent of the caller.

You and your mother are doing the right thing by exposing these callers! It's a shame that so many people are taken advantage of by scammers like these.

I don't know much about flex cards but in my experience if it's something new - it's usually best to wait a year or two before signing up for something.

So…how can law enforcement find these savvy tech Denison’s?
@SeniorSafetyAdvice9 ай бұрын
So many law enforcement agencies have created entire departments dedicated to these issues. Some even use ex-scammers to help them find the new ones that keep popping up. Just like anything, it's an ever changing problem.

Yes, that is certainly so true! I am a strong believer in working until the day you die because it gives you purpose and companionship and basically, a tribe to belong to. Whether it's volunteering or being employed or running your own fruit stand, whatever, so important to keep working to combat that loneliness. As you said, it's a very easy way for seniors to get scammed. And the scammers know it!
