Thanks for exactly the detail level I'd like from a review. Game sounds great, pacy and innovative, a great recreation of the IP. The minis and game parts also look ideal for any sort of modern skirmish game, be it tabletop or houseclearing, I'm guessing mine will see service against zombies, vampires and cultists...

Again, such a holistic and exhaustive review, thankful to be here and get a bunch of impressions and opinions. Thank you! To be honest, I think it would be awesome to have a modular room gameboard, instead of fixed layouts - but thats only a feeling for variety, lets wait for the campaign.

Glad to hear it! :D Yeah I can understand that desire. For this one I feel it'd just add to an already long setup time, but perhaps there are ways to say, put each building as part of 3 boards or some such. The issue with that actually I think is the IP - these are some of the actual maps in the game :)

Great review once again, thank you. This looks like something I would love to get, but it has become impossible for me to justify backing Mythic's games just because of shipping costs. Backed SFB part 2 for $50 and was charged $80 for shipping (to South Africa). Don't even want to mention my other fully backed Mythic games shipping costs because people will think I was mad to have payed it. Truly Sad :(

I'm so excited for this Kickstarter. I'm nervous about the all-in cost, but I already know I'm likely going all-in. Hopefully we can get all/many of the ops and maps, but something I loved about the video game is you can just keep replaying the same map and same objectives over and over and over and it'll be different every time, not just as you learn the skills, but also as you see more combinations of ops against each other and how they interact or change the map. Another reviewer had a laser to check sight and I'm hoping that's what comes in the base game. I think I'd hold the ruler in the air and measure from above. Moving everything is just too much work. But yeah, like you said, you only need to really check it if it gets challenged. I don't think it'll be a big deal either way.

@@TheKingofAverage one of the things I’m most interested to see is if they capture the dynamic of operator’s gadgets countering other operators. @@freedom2663 from a meta standpoint the game has never been better. The majority of attackers have utility clearing gadgets now, which has really leveled the playing field and has (mostly) killed the 20 second meta, where attackers would spend the entire round clearing utility and then have to rush site with 20 seconds left and just try to win their gunfights. The main issue at high ranks is the cheater issue, which is out of control… And streamers are starting to flock away from siege due to the fact that stream sniping is awful and there’s still not a streamer mode in the game….
@stevelikestowrite8853 жыл бұрын
The timer and the overwatch rules remind me of Space Hulk, and the map reminds me of HeroQuest :) Looks like they took some inspiration and made a much better game. My concerns are: 1) For beginners, being timed seems that it will make rule mess-ups a lot more common. 2) It looks set up that you absolutely need to play against someone of equal skill/experience level or you will be crushed by someone who knows the rules better and is experienced with the angles etc. 3) Even though you talk about how much the map changes throughout the game, I hope they have more maps. The second problem can be solved I think by having timer handicaps: less experienced/skilled players could be afforded more time to make decisions. Like an easy/normal/hard mode for each player, giving 9 different styles of play just from changing the timer up.
@TheKingofAverage3 жыл бұрын
They even mentioned space hulk to me so you aren't wrong ;) 1. They suggest you play without timers at first and each map and game variant has an optional pre-deployment where it shows you were to put all of your people so that's nice :) Can't speak for new people and rules messups except to say it's pretty straight forward. There's not a ton of mechanics to remember or anything and even when timed you are allowed to pause if you need to take care of kids/look up a rule/eat pizza/whatever :) 2. Yes, but only kind of. Like any technical job, the key to success is problem solving and a good eye. Since it has a high skill ceiling there's definitely room to have someone who just knows the game better to do better, but the overall secret sauce is just seeing those opportunities and acting on them. That is, it's not so much that you can overwatch that tiny room to perfect as in my example, but seeing the gap - and there's almost always a gap. For instance I'm not away of a way to perfectly overwatch that room with 2 units. You can get close, but not perfect. Even a newer player can see the imperfection and act on it. But yeah there's certainly that gap that can be the case - something I should mention in video next time I mention "skill ceiling" as not everyone might pick up on what I mean by that :) 3. I've been assured they do and totally 100% agreed! Skirmish games live and breath by options. Great idea about the timers! Every time I played someone new I had no timer and offered lots of options/advice to them (normally making me lose lol) but while you can pick different times for skill level, it's not per player in the app yet - I'll let Mythic Games know about that :)
@Exoc3tBOOM3 жыл бұрын
1) you can modify the timers on the app to give one player more time than the other, so the more experienced player you can really put them under a time crunch, etc. 2)See number 1, this seems to be one of the primary ways of balancing experience is with making time an issue for thinking 3)supposedly 2 maps planned, hoping for more as well. The timer thing is explained and actually gone through in the BoardgameCo/Quackalope vids :P

Fiddlines on this looks through the roof...
@TheKingofAverage3 жыл бұрын
FAR less. I complained a TON about that in JoA. This is nothing like that for a few reasons: 1 - The terrain pieces aren't specific, just the size/shape. On the map are thick squares and lines. If it's in two spots you put a terrain piece that's 2 wide there, any one you want. If it's an L shape you put the desk there. This takes maybe a minute tops to do the whole map of furniture. next is the default barricades/cameras which from what I tested, all worked just fine. It's all in 1 box too so there's no searching for the tiny man called "hunter" in a box you're not sure of. Then you can do the custom setup with takes a bit of time (still less than JoA) but it involves gameplay decisions because the game has started, this is the "deployment" phase. If you don't want that however they have quick setups where you simply put people where they go. I could have perhaps reassured this but I didn't mention an issue around it because it's not a thing really :)
@brett57303 жыл бұрын
What is your take on the variety of operators? The base pledge has 20, but if you go all in it adds another 38. It seems like overkill- I don't know that you'd ever even get to use some of the units, much less flush out their full potential. Do you think you'd ever get tired of just the base 20?

I do think they should have a physical device that times you. Simply because apps can become unsupported and it would benefit the company because apps are a running/ continuous cost.
@TheKingofAverage3 жыл бұрын
It'd need to be a bit tricky since you you choose between several different time allotments, timing is per operator alive so you have to lower it (and increase it if you made a mistake) each round, pass between two timers, pause either one, add or remove 30 seconds based on LOS calls and support the deployment round with different timings as well. For an app it's pretty straight forward, and you can certainly grab a pair of stopwatches, but the app certainly makes it easier.

I play the video game, so all these components are pretty self explanatory, but i'm afraid the amount of components will make the game finnicky, thoughts?
@TheKingofAverage3 жыл бұрын
It's certainly not finicky which is nice. While I don't play with anyone casual, each person's special item has their unique symbol on it which is nice, and the furniture simply goes wherever the lines are on the map so takes about a minute. Setup diagrams show where to put barricades. Honestly I was worried having played stuff like Joan of Arc but it wasn't an issue at all :)

I'm huge about whether a game has solo lately, but I just have to back this one for the eventual games I'm going to get of this. You select difficulty which gives you x amount of time per operator (standard is 60 seconds). You pause as needed to ask questions and when you roll dice. After each round you tell the app how many of your people died and it adjusts your time accordingly.

This does because the defender player is actively making decisions and every time that was the case I watched them like a hawk so I could better have a plan of action on my very quick turn that happens right afterward. Yeah; a second camera will make all the difference. Maybe a remote to change back and forth in real time. Or maybe you would have to split it in post editing. But since this wasn’t a play through, it’s not too bad. Great breakdown of the game. Good job!

Hmmm, no microtransactions? Are we sure that they have paid for the IP? Or maybe they will introduce microAddOns? Smoke grenade. 5€ add-on with 2 cards and tokens. 7€ upgraded to plastic... And so on and so forth. Thank you man. Nice review, I am not really interested. I like to have time to plan for actions. I would love more of a "kitchen rush" real time than this kind of game. I love Mythic Games and I am sure this campaing will explode but I might not play this one.

It looks like it’s fiddly and way too long of a set up. Looks like it needs to be streamlined. Reminds me a little of Reichbusters being too fiddly and set up. Hopefully it will have a better rule book.

It's super streamlined. I think the issue, and I think I worded this badly, but deployment is game time, not setup time. It's very active for both players. As the defender you're figuring out where to put everything and as the attacker your hoping to gleam a mistake they make and formulate a plan because once they say done (even if it's sooner than the timer) you have just a few minutes to put your people into position. It really is a fast paced game! Reichbusters was rough for a lot of reasons but much of it was due to bad game flow thanks to overdone mechanics. This I am happy to report is not that :)

20 minutes setup. And then u need to dismantle it. This is just me....No way. The other thing, looks like solo is out since this is max..pvp, and maybe max..4 players...2 vs 2, but that is going to stretch gameplay time/discussion, which can be enjoyable...and which can be tiring. They could have done a gameplay on solo , with terrorist/kidnappers/counter-terrorist , in which PvE can be done with the right card AI. They could add bosses in them. They could add timers as well , they could even add campaign wise, with new items/weapons/armor/skills..... There can be so much potential in this, partly I had wanted to create such game mechanics myself. LOS to me is just a ruler to determine if it hits any of the frontal 2 points, part-LOS would give another different outcome. If Mythic folks wanna talk to me...just message me. So much waste potential perhaps IMO...anyways, I will need to see what is on the stretch goals, add-ons...the base isn't intriguing to me anyhow. Thanks for reviewing this.

You're welcome! Setup is weird since it's actually part of the game and can lower the time if desired. Setting up the game to start deployment takes a matter of minutes thankfully as it's not token heavy and everything has a spot on the board. Can also simply set up in a recommended deployment to skip the 20 minutes entirely.

I think you should delete this first part where saying about how independent you are. Sorry but when I look at your reviews - from some time - you are extra optymistic about every game! I can understand that - they are sending prototypes to you and they will not when you will be showing their problems and issues. Too bad, because a lot of people liked you for realistic approach. And it is nothing wrong. Just stop saying how independent you are mate...

Heh, I think there's some natural tin foil hat here which is understandable anytime anyone makes a claim. Better to question than blindly follow right? As someone who got a few free games from CMOM, and then made a video titled "CMON is EVIL!", Someone who rated Dawn of Madness, Joan if Arc (by Mythic Games mind you), Black Rose Wars, Starvadia Quest and others rather harshly I believe I've done enough at this point to where people either believe me, or don't. That being said, you are noticing something for sure. I don't reviygames I think look bad, and if a game ends up bad I only sometimes force play it enough to do a review video on it. For instance I found my 2 game sessions with Wild Assent as rather "meh", so I've not played it more and therefore haven't reviewed it. So envairably, most games I review I will like. Bit that doesn't mean I can't be critical. There are always cons with any product, nothing is perfect. 6: Siege I truly have enjoyed, a lot. I get nothing from lying and nothing for peddling crap to you guys. You'd find me full of crap within a year when they deliver. I've been doing this for 3 years, I'd have been "found out" by now I think :) But of course it's up to you to decide to trust me or not :) Most I can do is to be here should you have any pointed questions :) I honestly don't mind!

@@TheKingofAverage ok sure, that's a pretty good answer. But you know, that if you are not publishing bad reviews it looks like "everything is awesome!" approach. Maybe it is just me looking for late period of time and see this? Thanks for answering. Hope you are correct ;)
