When I adopted my cat I noticed that she had isolated herself from other cats. When I brought her home I think she was depressed and angry. She would claw and bite me for no reason in the beginning and it took over 2 years before she would even sit in my lap. I think she had been abused and I know she had been rehomed several times. I've gotten interactive toys for her (feathers on a stick and string) but she will play sometimes and others she will not. She never interacted with the red dot and I've gotten several food puzzles for her which she will use. I have taken her to the vet because of over grooming. I'm really concerned about her because we are getting ready to move to another country. Her carrier is sitting on the couch and she will sleep in it. I've purchased cat pheromone for the trip and a swaddling vest. I will be taking her litter box, banana, cat cave and favorite food but I'm really concerned about her well-being. I have watched Jackson's videos as to what to do for her while traveling but I'm still concern. Do you have any suggestions.

Don't let her out once you reach your new home. She will probably try to find it, and not return. Let her get used to her new surroundings gradually with much love and patience. It will happen. Talk to her softly and reassuringly every day. ( I know this because I have seen th missing posters happen ).. it is heartbreaking. Rescues are very sensitive. Btw it took us almost a year for our rescue kitty to warm up to us and her new home. She has a favorite person now with us, and still cries for him for awhile when he leaves. They're almost like little kids with the separation anxiety. 😢 🙏

She had been declawed when I got her so she isn't an outdoors cat thank goodness. Thank you for your reply. I've had her for 7 years now so she has bonded to me I'm just terrified of her traveling to a new home.

Are you flying or driving with her? It sounds like you are well prepared and bringing things she will find comfort in. Be aware that it may take time to adjust a new home. If you can set up one room for her once you arrive with everything she needs and slowly introduce her to the rest of the house. This should help provide a sense of security. Cats by nature often struggle with change.

We will be flying. One stop that is overnight and I found a pet friendly hotel. I'm wondering if I should confine her to the bathroom or allow her in the main room in case she wants to sleep with me for comfort. In my mind I see her dashing under the bed and not being able to get her out.
