My dog makes it clear he's only in it for the food & comfortable place to sleep. HaHa. His only sign of affection is "allowing" me to scratch his chest when he's sleepy. He seems to know he earns his keep by being a loyal watchdog, & he does. 😊

my dog (when he was still alive) will always call my attention at 9PM since this is when we usually go to bed. He will go out of my room and go to the kitchen to wait for me to return from washing my face or brushing my teeth. He will only go inside my room once he is sure that I won't go out anymore. During his last 2 weeks (he died jan 4), instead of waiting for me, he will go in my room as soon as I turn on the AC, and then lay on my blanket to wait for me. I thought it was just a coincidence so I moved my blanket to different spots on my bed and every time, i catch him laying on the blanket waiting for me to go to bed. I read / watched somewhere that some dogs will isolate themselves once they know that they are about to die. Maybe my dog was preparing me for him leaving my life.

My first dog got seriously ill and was hospitalized for about a week. She wasn't getting better until I brought her a smelly old T-shirt I'd been sleeping in. She recovered incredibly fast after that.

Deafness is always on mind. I have a dog who was born deaf. It is always something to consider, especially as our dogs age.

I have a Golden Retriever he is 9yrs old almost 10. Everybody says he cries when I leave. But he is very attached to my boys (they don't live with me) he gets way more excited about them coming over than me coming home. But if they go to hug me or kiss me he gets in between us. So I was just wondering if he really loves me? I think he does. I do believe that he likes men more than women but I'm not sure. He does listen to them better than me.

Since the last time I talked to you my ex moved in and he has a German Shepherd and a cat. My Golden Retriever acted sad at first he laid around a lot and wouldn't eat. But still protected me and his dog stays by him. The have got in a couple fights. I think my dog getting a little better and he plays with the cat. Do you think the dogs will get over it? The German Shepherd has growled at me a few times. Which sometimes causes the dogs to fight. My dog is a boy his dog is a girl.

My dog isn't tbe type of dog that likes being picked up. But he always sits facing you.And he loves being petted . And if l stop he hits mewith his paw. Then if your only doing it with one hand he hits you other hand so you pat him with both😊

I rescued a puppy from petco I have had him 4yrs I got sick had to move with daughter husband ,grandson adult 18, my daughter and husband don’t care for him so at home he would look out window can’t do here he was potty trained we have been here almost two years and he urinates in house he started to bite me now I have to give him away and my heart is broken because he has been with me through horrible times like death of my daughter 😢I asked my daughter to take him to doctors or training I need to know why he loves me I know but I don’t understand why he growles at me he sleeps with me and follows me everywhere I am 76 years old please help me I have health issues my son in-law scolded me saying you worship that dog 😢😢

My puppies have inherited the vengeance gene from their auntie, I think the greater the intelligence and smaller the authority (someone else's home where you too are debilitated and unwell) the dog might be trying to encourage you to leave where you are and be just the two of you again... 0:02

Your daughter and son in law sound like selfish, awful people. Having a dog you're close with has been proven to improve health and longevity. This pup comforted you through bereavement and you've been their whole life. You and your pup deserve better than to give up on them and get rid of them when they're going through some sort of distress. (Hint: being trapped in a home with people who actively dislike and don't care for one's well-being is a sure way to induce anxiety, aggression and depression.

You have to have the patience and leadership to create and maintain a bond before you can reasonably expect trust and affection. As mentioned in the other comment, children initially require a lot more love than they provide. People expect ready made one size fits all bonds with their family members and pets without taking into consideration like MUTUAL trust and respect, and everyone involved suffers
