Factors that matter: 1: Muslims don’t feel their religion is in danger or even Modi is not inclined to do any damage to them so the enthusiasm for opposition is sedate. Opposition’s fear mongering lacks traction so even if Muslims vote for opposition alone that pitch to vote in unison against Mr. Modi has less emphasis. 2: A large section of people who don’t like Modi feels it is better to be neutral than choosing somebody who is not worthy. Even with all fault-lines (as per their perception) Mr. Modi is by far the best choice. 3: The overcooking done by congress and co in social media makes them look like fools. The opposition is failing in reading the pulse of the nation as their narrative building and propaganda doesn’t seem to be authentic at all though they have become very active which at least puts them at par with BJP. 4: The undercurrent is strong for Mr. Modi where the state governments are from opposition so the actual fight is Mr. Modi Vs The states ruled by opposition or even friendly coalition parties. 5: Apart from activists or political agents the general public doesn’t see any measure gain in getting an opposition elected as people don’t really value the promises congress is making. In a way Mr. Modi has reached out to most from the general public who perennially remains anti-establishment ( government) so the sentiments against Mr. Modi is almost diminishing. 6: The measure voting class namely, the deprived class prefers safety to being adventurous, Mr. Modi has all the aces here as well. 7: Barring a few like AK, MB or TY very few in opposition have the gumption to go for slogging it out on streets. There is a feeling that opposition has left it completely for destiny and some way the smaller parties have resigned to their fate. 8:Congress must come out from its corporate culture that its governing body decision will be vouched by public. In the era of BJP ‘s juggernaut it must considers to press the reset button. When you are fledging company, the owner/management need to be in shop floor or in war room 24/7, this is the starting point for congress. Every regional party congress is aligning with as secular can ditch them any moment. 400 may not become a reality...but, the point to note is INDI Alliance partners face ant-incumbency much more than the BJP. BJP retains its strongholds like Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh. Even if a couple of states swing away from BJP a few others swing towards BJP in time to get the tally up. I think Karnataka, West Bengal, Orrisa and Himachal Pradesh may swing in favour of BJP while Maharashtra, to some extent Bihar and Haryana swing away from it.
