I absolutely love the direction you took Dee's character. I remember feeling bad for her and uncomfortable in the beginning but then discovering... "OH! She's as awful as they are! Sometimes worse. She deserves it as much as they do!" And it was delightfully gradual. For many episodes I went through the same thought process. "They're so mean to her." and again... "Right! She's a terrible human being!" Kaitlin is a top notch comedic actress. Up there with Lucille Ball.

Glenn is so right about the looking at familiar corpses thing. I feel like we're pressured to think that we should want to look at the dead body, like it's somehow going to take the sting out of them being dead, but I just don't understand why anyone would ever want to look a facsimile of their loved ones made with their flesh
@aplant9980
@aplant9980 Жыл бұрын
Understandable, but you get to say goodbye. Death tends to be a nasty surprise, so there's usually something you needed to tell that person, even if they can't hear it. ...also you get to make extra extra sure they're not secretly in a deep coma and about to be buried/incinerated alive.
@Iamaperson590
@Iamaperson590 3 ай бұрын
I don’t look at it as taking the sting out of it, but as a means to accept the reality of it. Nothing will take the sting away, time can make it less present on your mind, and coping skill can help manage it, but it will never go away fully. Seeing the body of someone close to you who has died can be a way for some people to process grief, especially because denial can become strong, even if just emotionally. The Intellectual and logical part of your brain knows someone is dead but the emotional and I guess sort of primal part, sometimes needs the visual confirmation to affect you emotionally to the fact that they’re gone. You take a look at a dead body and you know that persons never coming back. I don’t think it’s for everyone, but I can definitely understand it for some. Myself I find it helpful in regards to processing something like that.

About throwing up through your fingers.. One time when I was like 16 I got way to drunk at this party, drank a bunch of Tequila, and I started to feel the urge to puke, and I knew I wasn't going to make it to the bathroom, but the front door was right there. So I ran to go throw up outside... -but the screen door was locked. So I ended up projectile vomiting like a gallon of puke through this screen door.

The Thrice stickers discussion is so funny to me because I know Thrice were a Post-Hardcore band. Sure, they were a pretty mainstream Post-Hardcore band, but still underground enough stylistically that it's weird their stickers would be up on the Always Sunny set. Avenged Sevenfold, they're basically AC/DC or Metallica in terms of both mainstream acceptability and sound, I could imagine their sticker being up in some random bar, but Thrice are undeniably a Hardcore band.

Comment about near the end. My dad killed himself almost 3 years ago. I didn’t go see his body. People don’t look the same after they die. I wanted my last memory of him to be us hanging out and talking. Not his lifeless body in a casket. Some people I think need to see the body to really get over fact that the person is gone.
@amityislandchum
@amityislandchum 2 жыл бұрын
That is smart. Especially for a suicide death. My dad died when I was 11. He had a heart attack in front of me, so I saw him *dying,* but he still technically had a pulse when he was taken to the hospital, where he was DOA. I went with my mom to the hospital (not yet knowing he was dead), and she did not let me see his body. I was upset about it at the time, but now that I'm a doctor and I know what people look like after they've died, I'm glad. I did see his body at the funeral. (He never wanted an open casket funeral, but my bitch half-sister insisted on it.) Although at the time it brought me some comfort, I don't feel that way when I look back on it. All I can remember now is how his skin looked and felt like wax, and how I could see that his abdomen was propped up with pieces of cardboard, because he'd been an organ donor. All this to say... You made the right call.

When one of our pets die we show their body to the rest of the pets. We found they understand and cope better. We observed that when we didn't have this closure moment our pets would become erratic and extremely depressed. However they were digesting the sudden disappearance of their buddy wasn't healthy. It was filled with unknowns. When we should them the body they went through a phase of behavior that we assumed was grief and mourn but they came out better than an extended or permanent anxiety that seemed to consume their attention when they had an abrupt disappearance that they didn't know about. I think there is a need in many to solidify the reality so they can move on. Mere words, even from a reputable source aren't the same as first hand experience. Humans and animals are very the same. Some feel better this way others may not as Glenn has voiced his beliefs but humans aren't all the same. We all mourn and seek closure differently.

Me and my Dad are totally with Glenn on the “looking at the body” thing at funerals. It’s macabre and weird. I think for elderly relative or those for whom death has “been coming for a while” seeing the body may not matter as much but for some people if a loved one has died suddenly and unexpectedly or far away from them it might help to see them dead. If the person is thinking “wow I can’t believe they’re really dead” this might help their mind process it better. It’s really up to the individual. Even when I’ve seen the bodies I’ve never been to an open casket funeral though - usually where I’m from we cremate.

Interesting to me that Glenn has a Gojira shirt but hadn't even heard of Avenged Sevenfold.

My mum was a labor and delivery nurse and apparently if the baby dies or comes out dead or however that works it is common practice to show them the corpse so that the mother is never left wondering. Humans are illogical, nuthin' wrong with it.

I wonder if the girl who swerved on Charlie regrets it now? SHE could have ended up as the Waitress. 😂

Hail to the King is the best Avenged Sevenfold song and Glenn literally stopped it right before the lyrics started. That was fucking awesome! I need Birds of War played full length over this song now. 🇺🇸

It was great, but I think best song is a stretch. I would say it's the best song from one of their worse albums. I'll give you that.
