Thank you for the great videos. I just started USPSA in August. I love it and appreciate the practical training it offers to say nothing of how much fun it is. I'm older and not as fast as I used to be in most things. The last couple of matches I was in I focused more on accuracy. I still finished towards the bottom of my squad but did get more A hits than anyone. That rejuvenated my perspective and I feel that focusing on that will eventually lead to faster runs. Your advice is spot on and I look forward to seeing this series every Sunday. Thanks again.

Im new to competition shooting and this video is spot on including the gear part. 1st part is about safety. Tell your squad if its your first time and that you would like to go last. This way you get a chance to see how everybody runs. Lots of folks shoot with Glocks/Sigs and some also use race guns. Does not matter. Just go with what you have. Hydrate and ask questions.

Good tips! I just got into competition shooting in the past year myself. Only did 3 events but I can’t wait for more! Had a friend get dq’d on his first stage 😢 it’s so easy to lose track of your muzzle with the 180 rule. Slow and deliberate before you can go fast. I’m still working on the fundamentals myself. Gotta start somewhere, lots of dry fire!

Was he DQ'd for just the match or a long suspension?

@@jessechavez7081 usually you get DQ'd for the match (day). Probably broke the 180 rule or muzzle rule.

I’d love to try a pistol competition at some point! I recently bought a Canik Mete SFX and I really enjoy shooting it. I also recently found out that one of my coworker’s husband does some competition shooting with some friends, might have to get in touch with them and team up. Great advice, much love from Texas!

Where you at in Texas? I'm in southwest Oklahoma. Outside of Wichita Falls there is the Double Tap Ranch range. they have matches the 2nd and 4th Saturdays. I'm planning to make a few more this year now that I've got some good help at work and can take some days off. Planning for the upcoming 4th Saturday the 26th, weather permitting (I don't enjoy frozen hands lol). But I did my first one in October and they were super cool. I'd say if you are in the area, check it out and maybe I'll see ya there!

Something i learned after doing my first 3 competitions is to bring nutrition and hydration. I was surprised how hungry I was after 1 or 2 stages. Its all a learning process I guess.

This has been a great video for me. I live in the Midwest and it is all indoor right now. I have been accurate but am slow but safe. I try to speed up each run because it’s always the same course. Really enjoy this stuff!!!

My question is what's the most affordable setup? I know people hate the word cheap. What's the cheapest setup to get into the sport.

How do you select the order to engage the targets, how do you make your plan to not forget the sequence? Thank you Myles

Target engagement, provided the order isn't mandated by the stage such as in the case of a classifier, will largely be dictated by whatever sequence allows you to keep moving. Walk through the stage, unless absolutely necessary don't stop, that should allow you to visualize an efficient sequence.

can you do a video on finding the dot quickly? I am about Two months in and shooting C/O. I am SLOW, but accurate, which isn't great scores but I am working on it. I find myself hunting for the dot at times in the middle of larger stages. I find pushing down with the dominant thumb helps a lot. Any tips would help, love your stuff!

Put a target paster on your wall, stand whatever distance you want from it and stare at it. Bring the gun into your line of sight, repeat as many times as necessary until you have developed a presentation that puts the dot on top of the paster. There's no trick to it.

I'm a newbie at shooting but my question is what target should I use to work on accuracy I'm sure to work on accuracy I definitely should not shoot on human size target at 3 yards but please tell me what target should I shoot and at what distance

The actually target you are shooting matters little. You can pick any small spot on a target and that is what you should try to hit when working your accuracy and precision.

It all depends on your skill level. If you can’t shoot a 1-inch circle at 7-yards, then you wouldn’t work that target at 7-yards. You would move closer, find a bigger target, or do both. You need to find your own limits. We don’t know them or dictate them.

I have handled firearms since I was just a boy. (A long time ago) If I had gotten into competitive shooting in say, 1983, I might be good enough to compete by now. Lack of money and time has a way of preventing that from happening. I've met many people in my life, and many of them gun owners. Not one of them shoots in competition. Cannot shoot 52 weekends a year like the guys on You Tube, unfortunately.
