Great point with the drawing/ planning.. I drew out a plan for my house and it finally coming to fruition...slowly but surely, over 6 yrs it's starting to become my drawing I dreamt of . Another good tip is separating overgrown plants and replant them in your garden to fill it out, or ask around as people are willing to give away plants they dug up.

Waiting really worked out for me, I have lived a full year in my house before starting a garden (we only had lawn and raised bed for herbs at first). In my first design I wanted to plant some evergreen shrubs at the front, but after spending a winter (snowy and dark Lithuanian winter) here I realized that the shrubs will not work where I planned them, because during short winter days they would throw too much shade on my indoor plants, and there would be no space left to shovel snow from the driveway (our place is tiny). Of course, there are possible solutions, but it will be easier for me to plant something that will not throw shade and won't mind being covered in snow for months

Waiting and observing is a really good idea, I dug up a space not realizing there was a perennial plant there that was so beautiful ,and is now my favorite lilly.

I'm so excited to get started (slowly) this spring, in my garden space. I've got existing flower beds that have been neglected due to lack of time. I've kept it weeded, but not much else. I'm excited to finally have the time to make it look a little bit pretty.

Love your videos. I don’t have a lot of time to watch videos so I like that you cram a lot of info in a short period of time. Keep up the great work. Your videos are very informative.

Straight to the point, as always. Can you make a video on how to design something on a hill? I bought a house and my backyard has absolutely no flat spots, it's a straight hill from a house down the woods. Thank you!

You need a terrace. At least one. Unless your space is tiny and you can do it with shovels and wheelbarrow it will require earth moving equipment. Google for ideas and tips on the internet and on KZbin. In my experience Pinterest is a great source for garden design inspiration. I remember seeing a beautiful California garden on a hillside. Made me wish I didn’t have a flat garden. 😅 Imo easier way is to look for a design you like, which satisfies your requirements and can be reasonably adapted to your situation. Then just copy it. Good luck 👍

Hello! Just happened upon your lovely channel & as a new home (and yard 😊) owner, I am absolutely thrilled and have been devouring your content! Quick for you; would you have any recommendations for putting in a small dog run/potty space? How to incorporate it into landscape design and make it functional while still look as appealing as a dog run can? Any plants or landscape materials that are a no go?

I cut a 30’X6’ flower bed out of my lawn. I think I over planted a bit, possibly, but I may just move some as others mature.

New subscriber and been loving the channel as inspiration for my partner and I’s first home--curious if you could make a video about balancing the needs of pets particularly dogs and landscaping? As I have the desire and honestly need given his breed to give my baby some space to run around but find it competing with my desire for a nice relaxing space with cute landscape. I wouldn’t want the whole space to belong to him or me--any insight on how to juggle the two?

Ok. Starting to want to change my flower beds after buying this house. The bed im starting with is empty except for a young lilac bush I planted last year and obviously weeds. The bed adjacent to it only has daffodils that I hate. What is the best way to reboot these beds (except lilac)? Cardboard and mulch?
