I used this idea when planting a family members yard. I knew the view they would see most was from their porch, so stood near the porch to plan where to plant things. ☺️

One of my landscaper tricks is to take a garden hose to outline a potential bed area and then adjust it accordingly. I like to check out the design from an upstairs window and all different angles from the street and sidewalk.

I too love to look out my windows and plan and enjoy. I am working hard to make my beds pretty all 4 seasons with not much upkeep. I planted 0ver 500 bulbs last fall and so enjoying them coming out of the ground now, next will be my peonys then roses my roses are taking to much care so I am taking out a few and adding Nepeta, Russian Sage, Sedum, Salva and etc. Thank you so much you make my day.

I've been gardening for over five decades and agree with your seven steps. Kudos for starting with soil! Planned weed suppression is also important - especially when you want low maintenance. At 62, I want to control my garden instead of the garden controlling me! I loved your plant placements and focal point stature & anchor boulder. Wonderful video! I also have a large backyard to fill, however, mine borders a wetland buffer (lots of hungry critters and boggy spots). Unable to have a fence, I'm working out a fruit tree & cottage garden perimeter without feeding all the deer & woodchucks.Not so good with planner apps, so I use the photo editor on my phone to draw in ideas. Also, on the cheap and using stem cuttings & seed from my front cottage garden and neighbor sharing. Patiently waiting on many hydrandea, roses & peonies to mature... the hardest part! I'm now rethinking foundation plants to include winter interest.Thank you for sharing your ideas & experience.

Hi Michelle, as always, another great video! You asked for suggestions for what would Michelle do videos. As a gardener, I have dealt with this issue. I am currently dealing with this condition with an oak tree. A video suggestion would be identifying chlorosis. Also, immediate and long-term steps to take to prevent plants from potentially dying that are struggling with chlorosis. Please include any products you recommend helping to correct this problem. Thanks Michelle!
@gardeningTLC11 ай бұрын
Thank you for the suggestion. I have never had to personally deal with chlorosis. I know what it is, but have zero "hands-on" experience dealing with it. Laura at Garden Answer deals with it and treats it regularly, might be a good source to get better answers than I have.

Great Video!!!!! I love how you showed the planting for the bed in front of the barn. The visual is worth so much. You said you used software for your landscape design, is this software for novice -something I could find and or use - any landscape software you would recommend for home novice. I love the Echinechia, I planted some Salsa red a few years back and a bunny got in my back yard and ate it! I planted more last year - and yes, bunny gets in my fenced back yard eats my coneflower and Phlox plants! I can't figure out how bunny is getting in - it is young so it is smaller than full grownn, but they can squeeze through small voids - so I am out this spring with yard cloth again closing up any voids!!!! I am successful at keeping the deer out my backyard though.

It is professional software and not a homeowner version...it's pretty expensive, but if you are a landscaper or a designer it's worth every penny. It is called PRO Landscape
@groovy193711 ай бұрын
@@gardeningTLC I checked out that software, $1,500 is probably overkill for me to spend for my project but If I had a lot more to do, I am sure it would be worth it as you say. I found software called - Realtime Lanscaper Pro - I bought a used 2014 version on Ebay for $16.00 . I figure, if I like it and need to buy the current version at $279, I will. I will try this out and see. It is supposed to have 6,500 plant library and supposed to be easy to use.

Hi Michelle. I wish I’d found your channel 3 years ago! I garden in zone 8b, near the east coast of Virginia. My weakness are roses. Last year I made the mistake of planting my purple Salvia in front of my small pink rose bushes. The Salvia was way too tall and shadowed my immature pink rose bushes. When I first planted the Salvia, I didn’t pay attention to how tall it would get. I will probably have to rearrange my Salvia (transplant) and put them behind the rose bushes (ugh)! I also have rose obelisks that have climbers for vertical interest and a bird bath. I have hummingbirds that love the Salvia as well as bees. Since I house Purple Martin migratory birds in my backyard each year and I have a dog, the font yard is the only place I have to use for my flower beds. I also deal a lot with black spot and powdery mildew since we have high humidity. But, it’s worth the extra work to have my roses. 😊 Thank you for your videos.
