I've never heard of "PreFall", but this perfectly describes the "Fall" months in SoCal. Sep-Oct are some of the hottest months of the year, and it's not uncommon for us to use our AC on Thanksgiving. This always made dressing for the season tricky - the calendar says "tweed and layers", but the local climate still calls for "linen and shorts". This is the "How to dress for 'Fall'" video that's actually applicable to my own taste and locale.

Ha! Now this is the truth - I'm coming from South Texas, and I'm right there with you on the A/C - sometimes we go to the beach over Christmas break! But after living in NY for many years, a came back with a closet full of tweeds - so I'm definetly guilty of just muscling my way through it and carrying a handkerchief in my back pocket! 🥵 But to be honest, I always think if I ever had a chance at my own clothing line - I think I would wanna do just that - make linen tweeds and cotton sweaters for winter - with deeper winter-y colors. I'm always supprised more brands don't bridge that gap between the looks that we all wanna wear, but just can't with the weather!

Hi Joseph, I like your videos. Extremely informative and well researched. You seem to value high quality videos over as many videos as possible. Please stay that way. I think it will help you in growing this great channel. I am a middle-aged gentleman. Your style examples are great inspirations. There are some that are right down my alley like 4:53 or 9:52 or and some that send chills down my spine like 3:26 or 11:20. Finally, the time is coming for my Harrington and Barbour jackets, tweed sports coats and dress boots. I agree with you and your trench coat assessment. I live in the Greater Milwaukee Area, WI, I would like to bring it out more often but reserve it for the really rainy days. Whenever I wear my trench coat, I get looked at like coming from Mars. It is not a regular sight anymore.

@@kaykunz4730 Hi Kay - glad to have you back for another one! I really appreciate your kind comments - I’m so glad to see that my pacing of content is recognized, I do try to keep them chock full ‘o inspirations. You’re really cracking me up with your outfit callouts! 😂 it’s true a timeless style can always have examples of guys who keep their ensembles within the lines of good taste and others take the basics and desperately try to turn them on their head with varying outcomes. I try to strike a balance of references from traditional through modern or sometimes even trendy - I always feel that you never know when something, even slightly questionable points of inspiration might strike an idea or a fresh take. As far as the trench, I agree it’s had such an up and down road behind it - you never know when the time is right for it to become a popular look again - but I’m sure it’s never far out of reach. Thank you again for such thoughtful responses and I’m glad to have such great viewers on here like yourself!

This is really shaping up to be the best menswear channel on KZbin! I’m sure you’ll have a ton of followers incoming soon… Am I remembering right that you have a professional background in design and/or styling for PRL? Just curious.. you seem to actually have professional insight beyond what you usually see with menswear channel guys. Would love to see a video on tweed (so may options out there, can be a bit overwhelming trying to decide on colors and consider jackets in outfit contexts), as well as more on fall/winter layering strategies. Having actionable tips such as grounding your transitional season outfits with off white trousers and sticking to a limited earthy color palette as in this video is much more useful than just showing a bunch of random fit ideas. Would love to see something about how to approach darker palettes with navy and charcoal etc as the weather gets colder.
@SomeNotesonStyle
@SomeNotesonStyle 3 ай бұрын
@@faranji woah woah - thanks for the compliments man! Yea it’s true, I designed for RL for almost ten years - for Purple, Black & Polo - I learned a ton and always want to encourage guys that we all can put together those kind of classic looks with pieces from any brand or pricepoint. That’s totally a great call for layering deeper navies and charcoals - I’ll take a note and get one going on that for later this fall and early winter. That’s definitely a topic that can make for some very sophisticated looks! And as far as the leap into tweed - I’ve found the most versatile to be either a black & white or a brown herringbone pattern. Checks and plaids are fun, but they can be a little bit too graphic if you’re still getting your feet wet. A glen plaid is also pretty classic too though. I’d also say you should grab one or two off of eBay to test the waters - look for an old Harris Tweed with patch pockets, or if you find a Polo one at a decent price, the quality will be good of course. And the best way to wear em is to keep it simple - jeans, a worn in the Oxford shirt, a denim shirt, or a nice tshirt or crewneck sweater. Oh man now you’re getting me goin on that tweed episode already! Thanks for watching and hope to have ya back for more, bud!

@@stylishoversixty9459 Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it! Well I completely agree with you, before working in fashion, I had never heard the term myself. I’m not entirely sure where it first came from - it sounds like some kind of sales term, I’m sure. But in all reality, it’s really just labeling something we all do with our own closets every year. I am enjoying this channel. About dressing for this time/fall/winter season: What are your tips/notes on corduroy pants? Will there be a video on this? Are saddle shoes still cool to wear?
@SomeNotesonStyle
@SomeNotesonStyle 3 ай бұрын
@@larrywilcox5282 Thanks - I’m so glad to hear you’re enjoying the videos! Happy to have you back again! Well let’s see here - for cords, there’s kind of two ways of going for ‘em - either some thinner fine wales (14 wale) cut like a jean are a great way of keeping the cords looking a little more modern and sporty and can be great for wearing with casual jackets and sport coats, even tshirts or polos. Sid Mashburn makes some nicer priced versions or you can usually hunt around for some deals on some great ol vintage Levi’s corduroys on eBay if you don’t mind hunting a bit. Then the other side would be a gentleman’s wide wale (8 wale) cut into a trouser style - little more traditional and a little harder to keep ‘em looking cool but a distinctive choice - for those you could try J. Peterman or hit up eBay for some vintage Polo versions. Those might wear warmer and you’d need to wear them with a sport coat or a Barbour or a chunky sweater - more heavy duty kinda outerwear. In either case, you can stick to the classic tan/camel color, or a rich brown, olive, or navy are also pretty versatile! This is a great idea for a video - making a note now! And saddle shoes - hmm well I haven’t seem them around too much lately, but they’re such an iconic piece that they’ll never truly go out of style. Especially now, with so many graphic looking sneakers around and the trends now with guys wearing penny loafers and white socks - they’re totally in the same light. But maybe the best way to wear them is to keep the rest of the outfit pretty clean so they’re the showpiece - maybe with some cuffed dark rinse 501 jeans, a clean T-shirt and a graphic varsity jacket with a bright white sock . Or if you want to wear them with chinos, a crisp white oxford shirt and a cardigan - make sure the chinos are either kinda trim fitting or a real old school wide fit with a high rise. Keep the shoes paired with outfits that have an equally sharp and iconic look to them so they assure everyone that you know they stand out and you meant to do so! Another interesting topic there…

Even though I live in a Hot state should I still invest in a Tweed Jacket? I've been back and forth on it. The majority of my current sport coats are suitable for year round wear no matter what the temperature is.

@@Manuel421 I’m right there with ya buddy - I’m actually in Texas fighting my Tweeds every year! 😂 What I’ve figured out is to look for linen, flax or linen silk tweeds - I look on eBay for old Ralph Lauren and type in exactly what fabric brand and size I’m looking for - there’s not always a lot to choose from, but eventually they’ll come around. Recently I even found a cotton herringbone tweed - really rare, but I was even wearing it the other day outside in 96 degree heat with no sweat 😅

I live in Southwest Florida, what is this prefall you speak of?

lol I'm in the same situation. Luckily I do quite bit of travel to cooler states and even spend a couple of weeks in Canada for the holidays.

My cousin lives in south Florida, she loves coming to New Jersey/New York in the winter. She states, "It's hard to be fashionable in south Miami!" Another cousin, "Miami has two seasons hot and hotter!" Tweed in south Florida? Should come with a very powerful Air Conditioner!

@@ThommyJane okay okay guys - here’s the honest truth - I’m coming at y’all from Texas, so I know exactly what your saying! Believe it or not, I’ve come to realize you can get away with cotton sweaters, linen/cotton tweeds, and unlined canvas jackets and make it pretty far even if the temps get pretty brutal. Now it’s true these kinds of pieces are not easy to come by, but they’re out there. That’s kind of why I like this concept of prefall cause you can kind of look at the colors and ideas of layering from cooler climates and blend it together with more realistic pieces for warmer climates. But yea the A/C is my friend. 😅

You need to work on your green screen. It makes you look like a cartoon as the background is not sized for your body.

@@CanadaFree-ce9jn 😅Thanks! I’m just kinda scrapping together what I can find for backgrounds - never intend for it to be a total illusion, just kind of a graphic so I’m not just standing in front of a blank wall - just learning as I go - but I’ll try to find some better samples going forward!
