Neutering a dog is not an appropriate blanket recommendation to stop the marking. I can appreciate that you didn’t phrase it that way though some might think it is. I neutered my 4 yo rescue (2 years ago) because the vet said it would help with the marking and that was a horrid lie. My dog became more subdued (and he was a playful sweetheart before…I miss the old him) and he still pees in the house despite my attempts. I would NEVER recommend neutering a dog just to get the marking to stop or at all unless you have two intact opposite sexes that would breed unintentionally.

To me the purpose of nuetering and spaying your dogs is to prevent unwanted and unplanned dog pregnancy , not for house breaking etc.

Yes, that is one purpose for sure. When a dog is barking in the house that is not a housebreaking issue. He is marking his territory and neutering can potentially alleviate or reduce the marking.

My 2 year old doxie mix is marking in our house. We rescued her when she was four months old. We tried crate training and she would pee in her bed. Now she pees on blankets, couches, and dog beds where she sleeps. She is inconsistent and can go days without doing this and then she starts again. We are at our wits end. We got another rescue about a year ago but she did this before and after the new dog. HELP!!!

Have her tested for a UTI and evaluated for a physical issue by the vet before proceeding with behavioral modifications

What about with two unfixed male dogs Ones a 8 month puppy and the other is adult Older marks younger one follows we have crappy vinyl fake wood ? IDEK floors so can't use most cleaners on them it's so frustrating
@KristenlevinePetLivingАй бұрын
Yikes! Double trouble it sounds like. Your adult male is very likely marking his territory and he's teaching the younger one to do the same. I'd recommend you have them both neutered. If that's not possible, you might talk to your vet about what you can do to suppress the adult male's desire to mark. Anti-anxiety meds or supplements may help. Or, you can try behavior modification too.

I'm sorry to hear this! It's a very complex problem. They have developed a habit that's hard to break. You might find this free guide helpful: kristenlevine.com/resource/you-can-end-your-dogs-indoor-peeing-for-good/

My 14 year old female dog has used a doggy door her whole life and still uses it to this day EXCEPT for night. She started peeing in the living room at night about 4 weeks ago. Some spots are small, and others are big. Please help me make her stop this. Thank you!

Oh my! How frustrating. The fact that you mention that she's 14 AND that she just started doing this recently makes me think it's a medical problem, or possibly, a cognitive issue due to her age. I recommend you take her to the vet for a visit and to rule a medical problem in or out. In the meantime, can you confine her at night to a room with a tile or vinyl floor for easier clean up? Please keep me posted!

Is it lit where she goes out? I have a 14 year old Cavalier King Charles and as she has aged, it’s almost like she’s afraid to move around in the dark, like her night vision has declined. She got to where she wouldn’t leave the deck in the dark, but once I turned the deck light on, she would go down the steps. Maybe your dog can’t see as well at night like she did and feels too vulnerable to go outside in the dark. Worth a shot maybe.
