The Osoto Gari throw from Japanese Jujitsu or Judo is one of the most common throws for all of combat... regardless if it's for self-defense, MMA or sport grappling, or survival (weapons / life or death).
In this video Coach Matt Bryers (founder of TRITAC) breaks down many different uses for the Osoto Gari in sport and street self-defense.

Man, I know longer instruct self-protection or train Japanese style Jujutsu, I only do sport Judo now, but man I wish this channel got even more love. You guys are one of the best sport/self-defense hybrid schools I've ever seen. If you guys were close to me in Canada I would visit in a heart beat! Thanks for the content.

Hey man, really appreciate that. I'm happy with the love we get. We're not hugely popular, but I am happy that many like yourself can find usefull information in what we do. Thanks again! FYI - we have a lot of visitors who come to my gym and stay for days, even weeks at a time. Hotels are relatively cheap too. If interested, let me know!

I have some ideas about this technique 1-In the defense against the gun, it is better to first defend the part where the muzzle of the gun comes out because it causes the gun to jam after the first shot and will not fire again. Then move your head and your body a little while throwing away the gun, so that the chance of getting hit by a bullet decreases. 2- In the defense against sticks and guns, it is better to hit one so that the opponent is confused and shocked, so that the probability of your success increases. Thank you for your Education. I'm Iranian 🇮🇷

Amazing use of Osoto Gari! Soundless technique and execution guys. Well done. Really love the Japanese jiu-Jitsu content on this channel. I personally train at a karate dojo in Canada but we are affiliated with a Jiu-Jitsu school so we have learned some of these techniques and have incorporated them into our curriculum. 👍🏽

I know No one cares but the Japanese have a name for every subtle variant. The 3rd demo you did with the Kata Gatame was actually an Osoto Otoshi. Someone has to be a dick and point that out, may as well be me.
