Ye I think your seriously underestimating Joe's skill as a player, Gojira is super rhythm based, every band members timing is perfect especially mario, and Joe not only has to keep that perfect time on top of the pick rakes, harmonics, tapping but he also has to sing, also has fantastic guitar tone, one of my favourite producers

Old video, doubt you'll read this, but I have an interesting thought about that drill... So you've got 4 picks in an X shape on the end of that thing. That produces a really consistent 4/4 rhythm, but what if you played around with the spacing? Like, naturally if you added 4 more picks, one in each gap, you'd double your pick speed, but what if you used different configurations? Remove one of the original 4 and now you have perfect 4/4 triplets. What if you off-centred one pick to make a different rhythm? Could you produce something that would actually be appreciably different at such speeds? Would love to hear your thoughts on that Pete. Crackin' video.

Two tips for playing behind your head - play a solo around the 12rh fret that doesn't move up and down the fretboard (think Hey Joe) , and use a guitar with a Strat-style trem so you can hook your right-pinky round the trem-arm at the bridge to help lift and hold the damn thing. The things you learn from the Church of Hendrix

For playing behind your head, the key is to not move your fretting position too much. And it's easier for bluesy soloing, where you're gripping rather firmly, in one spot, Close to the body.
