Agreed. I think that he applied too much glue in all those joints in the video. Usually just a thin layer is enough. No matter which material is in question or whether you are applying super glue, glue for carpet materials, woodworking glue or epoxy, for example. But that is just me and my opinion :)

I have a salt/pepper set from the dollar store, I use for outdoor grilling in case I drop it, that is the cardboard shakers. I'll be getting another set, and keep the salt shaker in my she-shed, so I won't have to always run back and forth to the kitchen.

My dads a sweet but old fashioned man and worked mostly as a carpenter. He never taught me much carpentry cause I am his daughter but between observing him work and your channel Ive built my own bedframe and desk and now hes more hands-on teaching me since he sees I can build. Any type of salt will do. I prefer fine grain - and you don't need much, just something like 1 .. 2 square millimeters.

My Dad was a machinist. When I was seven, I began cleaning his shop. By the time I was in 8th grade I was working on a lathe. By the time I was senior in High School I knew I didn't want to be a machinest. Metal is unyielding and cold. I found wood to be much warmer and the grains were beautiful. Plus wood is much easier to work with all year round. I'm now 64 years old. Retired. I plan on buying a country home with a shop where I can make toys and furniture as a hobby. I love watching wood working videos. Your video was great for what I watn to do. Thanks

this is a useful trick i've used many times, although i learned it slightly different, i dimple the base surface then set a BB in it. the round edge gives you a little better visual of center.

I've been a woodworking hobbyist for over 30 years, and I grew up watching my carpenter father. I never knew about the rubber bands on the spring clamps. And the other thing that would have saved me recently when gluing up a cutting board is putting salt on the glued surfaces to prevent them from sliding. That alone was worth watching the 12-minute video. You have a new subscriber now!

@@Notsure1020 There's salt in the air near the ocean and people have been using wood for buildings. Wood dock pylons are submerged into salt water. I think it will be fine.

Yes known trick but many manufacturers don't recommend to mix salt in their glue. I would use some fine white sand or fine playsands. Lots of vids out there. I just don't want shaking salt on a typical basis can corrode the metal tools around me. But all due respects a very brilliant video here thanks man!

I almost didn't watch this because I have seen so many tips and tricks that are just lame. Well this was one out of the box! You addressed about every problem I gave been dealing with for years. Normally clamping glued wood for me means reach for the mallet, now it means pass the salt. Thank you so much! Every one was a gem!

Great video. I started as an apprentice joiner 60 years ago (in the u.k. age 15) but only did 4 years then change to architecture. Even to this day I enjoy using different ideas to make practical jobs easier. Some of these tips I've never seen and are brilliant in their simplicity. One tip I would pass on is that when using smooth dowels with glue, always make sure to cut a shallow groove along the dowel to allow some glue to escape when the dowel is tapped in.

@@Coldcloves google ulnar nerve glide exercises. Best one I found was from a Russian hand wrestler posting about this, believe it or not. Tingling in pinky and ring finger (and/or pain/numbness) ans side out palm can be from ulnar nerve out of propar slot. That helped me alot. Unfortuantely if your pain/numbness in hands is from carpel tunnel syndrome, sergery is only effective way to fix that. See a doc to help you diagnose if you haven't already
