In my area there is a terrible trend of just lifting the front and some go as far as lowering the rear. Headlights aiming skyward as if they are hauling an invisible load of concrete blocks...
@zososldier8 жыл бұрын
That is usually a pre runner style stance. you dont need as much travel in the back as you do in the front. People do it all the time in desert areas.They should definitely have the lights adjusted accordingly though.
@Itsjustgaming8598 жыл бұрын
JeepCollector91 oh quit your bitching we just want to have fun that's all
@jeepcollector918 жыл бұрын
adam courtney I totally understand it on a prerunner. And for a truck that is indeed heading to the desert it makes sense. I know they keep the rear low for stability and have tons of down travel in the rear and the front can only sit so low without moving the drivetrain back. Seen that a lot when I went to Dumont Dunes and Glamis. But the trucks I'm talking about are far from prerunners (and far from the desert) and more like mall crawlers... I also understand why some do it on trucks with a torsion bar front suspension as it was common here for the past couple decades to tighten up that torsion bar to raise the front just enough to clear the same size mud tires as the rear would clear stock which many would reverse after hunting season to run smaller tires in the off season. But when and how it became a desired look for the street and even lower the rear is beyond me. There is no gain in performance and it's just a "look"???
@jeepcollector918 жыл бұрын
Nos16_13 Wanted I'm getting old...LOL I guess I just don't see where it would make the truck more fun? Or functional. Lowered front & rear for handling, raised for more travel/clearance, I totally get. But the mix of the two? And add to that tire stretching fitting a 10" wide tire on a 14" wide wheel is just asking for a destroyed sidewall or an easily knocked off bead if taken down the mildest trail. So far, the worst I have seen had a C-notched rear frame, cut out bed floor and wheel wells, with about 4" of clearance between the rear bumper and the ground running low profile street tires in the rear and 37" Nitto's in the front. (it was a 2wd truck) Sorry for the bitching.
@Itsjustgaming8598 жыл бұрын
JeepCollector91 dude that's just people having fun what else are they supposed to do with a 2 wheel drive truck make it 4 wheel drive and lift it so they can go off road. Keep to what you know. Tailgate nets are for 5th wheel trailers, and even than that argument is ignorant. They are designed as efficient as possible. Yes, as efficient as possible WHILE HAVING A SOLID TAILGATE which is required for most vehicles. Its likely accepted as a loss aerodynamically, and made up in other ways. Using a net does not go against them designing them as efficient as possible.

With the tailgate on a small amount of air hits the tailgate and creates a rotating air cushion in the bed allowing the rest of the airflow to glide right over that cushion and off the truck. I have found i use MORE gas when i have my tailgate down vs up. With it open you get more down force on the back of the truck causing drag and fuel loss.

I'm a diesel truck owner... and I agree with pretty much all of them! Truck nuts are really stupid! A small or medium sized lift is great, but a giant lift is pointless and looks dumb (I have a 3 inch on mine). Giant wheels with low profile tires looks stupid on trucks (I'm running 35/12.50/17's on mine). Tailgate nets I don't really care about! Chrome is ok as long as it's not overdone. Rolling coal is dumb when it's intentional. A well tuned diesel should put out little to no smoke! If you modify your truck for the sake of increased power, and it smokes a bit, as a side affect under full power...that's fine! But when someone modifies it JUST for the sake of pouring clouds of smoke and not for actual performance...you are a straight up tool!

@@podrumkaleto5042 Rolling coal. While not a big fan personally, it takes a lot of effort, time, and money to tune an engine. With the right tune and internals, there should be a small puff of smoke and the engine will run clean as it regulates the fuel to air ratio for the most power with the least amount of visible pollution coming out. Honestly the stuff the EPA is concerned about is mostly NOx and particulate matter. But the particulate matter (the rolling coal) is just carbon which will settle and dissapate towards the ground, not the atmosphere.

@TheOnlyToblin8 жыл бұрын
It only adds power if you can match the added fuel flow with more air. If the engine runs right it doesn't roll coal, because rolling coal means your expelling *unburnt* fuel which is wasteful and stupid. Adding fuel does not equal more power. It equals stench, horrid black clouds and a dead catalytic converter. More fuel AND proportionally added air DOES increase power. Until your connecting rods die, but that's a future problem.

The "no tailgate myth" was put to bed by Myth Busters several years ago. They used two identically optioned trucks with exactly the same amount of fuel, then ran one with the tailgate down and the other with it up. After running the tanks dry the tail gate up truck went almost 50 miles further on the same tank of gas.

1:15 listen to this guy. You clearly don't know what you are talking about. Lifting your truck does NOT add ground clearance. Your dif is still in the center of your wheels even with a lift. The only way to gain ground clearance is with axle modifications or larger wheels/tires. Please don't make assumptions based on your opinion. If people like it that is fine. It is their vehicle so what does it matter to you?
@graysonhardy21398 жыл бұрын
You should have included lowering your truck
@dodgeme1986truck7 жыл бұрын
I see positives and negatives to lifting/lower trucks, there is a happy medium for example my 1985 dodge d350 standard cab long-bed (2wd 1 ton from before dodge added the second zero) has no lowering kit but sits exactly 2 inches lower than stock ( due to suspension settling over the years and the extra weight of my 1/2 inch thick pusher style bumpers front and rear) and the alignment and suspension settings are perfect as it sits... It floats down the road smoother than most modern cars and will tow better and more stable than the day it was made even on the factory 235/85r16 tires... on the other hand I have my 1985 dodge W350 crew cab short-bed (4x4 1 ton) it has a 4 inch/ 2 inch leveling/ lift suspension kit with 35x10.5r16 tires and goes everywhere on and off road I need it to go (And that is in Wisconsin's notorious blue clay) and it still tows a trailer fairly well although it does have slightly more body roll (but that's the tradeoff for having a truck riding higher than stock). The problems I see are when you go to the extremes going too low or too high can actually affect the legality of your vehicle in some states due to Bumper Laws, as well as functionality of your vehicle, safety of your vehicle, and efficiency of your vehicle, not to mention going too low could cause irreparable harm should you go over a speed bump. However like I stated I see both positives and negative to both lifting and lowering your truck and the fact is as long as lifting/ lowering your truck doesn't go to the extremes rendering the truck useless for all but 1 purpose (aka trailer queens). a minor lowering of a 2wd could actually make the tires fill the fender openings better, make it more stable when hauling, running empty, or towing and a minor lift on a 4x4 can give better ground clearance make better quality tires fit, make it more capable, while still retaining its functionality.

wind tunnel testing and myth busters both proved that the tailgate net actually did increase mpg over the following, tailgate up, tailgate down, and no tailgate. research it yourself but that mod actually does work and i dont see how its tasteless. the net is cheaper than a tailgate for those who live in areas where tailgate theft is a big thing or have lost their tailgate due to theft or damage. tailgates, especially on newer trucks, are extremely expensive
@InsanitySkullZ8 жыл бұрын
to be fair though, it does depend on the net, it has to be enough of a restriction that it causes the recirculating effect, which to be frank most nets wouldn't really do

@bluefalcon19524 жыл бұрын
No, they proved it did not work. It is more fuel efficient to drive your pick-up truck with its tailgate down, rather than up. BUSTED Driving with the tailgate down actually increased drag on the pick-up and caused it to consume fuel faster than the identical truck driven with the tailgate up. It was later revealed that the closed tailgate creates a locked vortex flow that created a smoother flow of air over the truck. With the tailgate down the trapped vortex was dissipated and the drag increased.
@sparrow99903 жыл бұрын

If you understood anything about performance automobiles you'd know that we here in the USA are decades behind our counterparts in Europe. Here we think a big V-8, say a stroked 360 that puts out a horse per cubic inch is awesome (roughly 400 HP), even though it gets 6 miles per gallon and has about 300 ft/lbs of torque. In Europe the general rule of thumb is approximately 100 horses per liter of displacement and as gas is running $5 a gallon or more, they demand economy even from hypercars, even if it is only about what a truck gets here. By that measure, your 400 horse stroked 360 with approximately 402 cubic inches of displacement or 6.6 liters is about 260 horses short of where it should be. American cars are also lacking in torque, which most of us Americans don't understand, is more important than horsepower because it's the actual measure of the engine engaging the road. I currently have an F-150 with the 2.7L Ecoboost, that puts out over 75 more horses than the 4.6L my previous F-150 had. It also has about 100 more ft/lbs of torque and pulls my 30' camper down the road just fine. Ford's engineers are learning from their European counterparts, and making better engines with less. Economy and power are not exclusive, they can both be had in the same vehicle.
@tylerboyer78247 жыл бұрын
but we are not talking about performance vehicles we are talking about pickup trucks. Pickup trucks that europeans do not generally have access to.

Black smoke confirms a complete burn in a Diesel engine. And produces less hydrocarbons than your gas engine. The soot or rolling coal is simply soot. If you have a fire place in your house and You use it. Then YOU produce more pollutants then these diesels engines shown.
@dominicracca69558 жыл бұрын

Lifting your truck does not provide more ground clearance, it lifts the body of the truck from the axles, the differentials remain the same height no mater how big the lift is.
@skylerspringsteen57305 жыл бұрын
kodak blak no it does, when you lift a truck 4-8” you get more clearance to add taller tires that’ll give you better clearance over all.
@Noah-ym4zc5 жыл бұрын
Skyler Springsteen yeah I guess.. most ppl have solid axles though so the differentials might scrape

So to a certain extent when you add more power to your diesel they tend to roll coal
@maxkaufmann9748 жыл бұрын
The first chrome truck looks not bad. But I dont get why anybody would think that coal-rolling is cool. Its just idiotic.
@nickadam29648 жыл бұрын
Max Kaufmann it's not that bad for some trucks it's just a thing that happens and it's not that bad. But too much like constant coal isn't good at all and I agree it looks idiotic when all that happens is black smoke. Like just a bit of a cloud and then it goes away is fine. But idk people are just dumb. And I'm an American that lives in a small farm town so we use trucks every day and my father owns a diesel so I've seen what's bad and good.
@Kalvinjj8 жыл бұрын
Yeah if it trows some black smoke when you hit the gas pedal too fast or the engine starves of air it's not that much, it's not like you did it to specifically pollute. The video refers to the intentional doing of that
@InsanitySkullZ8 жыл бұрын
rolling coal is more common in turbo diesels, basic break down of most diesel engines is that the air flow is unrestricted ie: no throttle body to speak of, some do have a throttle but most don't, when you press the throttle in a diesel it's increasing the flow of diesel into the combustion chamber making a bigger bang increasing torque and making the engine rev up, add a turbo and now you have a period where the engine is not getting all the air it can but you slam the throttle down and it pours in the diesel as it would with the turbo spun up therefore dumping more fuel in then it can burn, the black smoke is the unburnt fuel, when you have black smoke all through the rev range you just have to back off the diesel injector a touch until it no longer pours smoke at mid to to top range
@Kalvinjj8 жыл бұрын
Colonel SkullZ Exactly. Rarely we see people with actual facts around these topics. I would bet that at least some of the modern engines have some airflow meters on the intake to keep the diesel flow at most on the stoichiometric point, until the turbo spools up and you can slam more fuel inside, but many don't so it can happen indeed. As you pointed out, that's temporary air starvation and will happen mostly on turbo diesels, but the constant one is either intentional or problems on the intake/turbo. Blown turbos on trains do this (and consequently the unburnt diesel burns on exhaust pipe's last point, making a flame tower)

Roaling coal is dangerous to the engine... Hmmm wonder where he learned that wtf?
@travisedwards99834 жыл бұрын
usually indicative of restricted air, over fueling or a turbocharger that can't keep up with the demand for air. In short, its a sign a truck is not running correctly, was tuned badly, or had parts installed by an novice.

@TeamWagy8 жыл бұрын
Um, rolling coal isn't "smoke". It's unburnt diesel fuel leaving the engine. It settles and is not harmful, at least not as harmful as smoke. Do your research before making a video.
@wiztard_8 жыл бұрын
Team Wagy so its just a waste of fuel? sounds a bit useless to me

Yes, you are correct. It's like dumping money out of your exhaust. Hey, I never said that I condoned it lol, just getting the facts out there as an avid diesel enthusiast.
@96dukeboy8 жыл бұрын
Team Wagy Well I mean you could be rolling coal and get better fuel mileage. Like when you get an emissions system delete kit, you get significantly better mpg but may still roll coal while doing it.

well for some people lifting their trucks and getting bigger tires or mud tires does help. so you have at least 4-6 inches or more of snow in your way with a stock truck you cant get to far even in 4x4 selection if your truck is lifted with mud tires you get a good amount of clearence and the tred from the mud tires grip more easly the some snow tires yes if u need a ladder to get in ut truck lower it but if your able to pull ur self up by using the running board then its fine also some mud tires give you a good 1-2 1/2 inch lift depending on manufacture
@cpufreak1018 жыл бұрын
Robert Thomas that's actually a myth about mud tires, the compound they're made of suck in cold weather, you're better off stock in snow tires than lifted on mud tires
@gmanthomas968 жыл бұрын
Justin Noker so if thats a myth then tell me why when i was working roadside assistance with a friend of mine who had mud tires and a lifted f150 we went up a hill that a cop said all the cars who tried to go up didnt even make it half way up and yet we made it up the hill with mud tires and it was fresh snow
@cpufreak1018 жыл бұрын
Robert Thomas fresh snow, that's why. It's very loose, the deep treads of a mud tire can easily just penetrate through it onto the road surface, wetter snow or not so fresh snow and it'd have trouble finding traction, as the compound gets no grip on the slippery surface of hard snow
@BrettWilkens8 жыл бұрын
Justin Noker even with fresh snow it can be very slippery just today I was pulling a gooseneck trailer with a skid steer on it and it was snowing (so there for fresh snow on the road) and it cause my pickup to spin going up a hill. So it doesn't matter if the snow is fresh or not it is how you drive in it that makes the difference. Usually slow and a steady foot will accommodate you best in snow, where fast changes in acceleration or movement of the steering wheel will cause fish tailing or complete loss of control
