Hi Teri...I Just got a few gorgeous shower curtains to make simple window coverings in my studio...(fibre artist) ...About 35+ years ago I lived in LA & randomly made a MAJOR thrift store find on my lunch break one day...Almost like a warehouse with countless bolts & bolts & stacks of high end fabrics & trims (everywhere you'd look) where it became common for me to see theatre people with costume designers & their storyboards...On more than a few occasions I'd be having so much fun that I ended up spending almost the entire day there...I was a like little kid in a toy store with my little Suzuki I'd always stuffed full... *: )* 💥 💮💢

I re-use dryer sheets to wipe wood surfaces (not in direct contact with food), wipe TV screens and polish up faucet fixtures. Using any type of citrus peels, I slightly boil them in water (just enough to cover); then once the liquid is cooled, strain into a spray bottle adding more water. Works great as a degreaser. Still using those same citrus peels, I make little packets using used dryer sheets. I use these as little mini scrubbers for degreasing and polishing. I also re-cycled those plastic coffee creamer bottles to use for watering my house plants ( they have nice pouring spouts). Thank you for sharing so many valuable insights!

Old shower curtains are great for protecting the the boot (trunk) of the car. They can also be used to protect the work surface when painting crafts, or can be used as dust sheets when decorating the house. Great for placing on the potting bench before potting up plants, and used as a ground sheet, under a picnic blanket.

I use jewelry zip lock bags for each piece of jewelry. No tangling, no earrings mismatched, etc. (They're very inexpensive at a craft store or online.) Instead of using tissues (which tend to leave lint behind) I buy Gift Wrapping Tissue $1.25 for 24 sheets at the local dollar store and wrap my jewelry. I cut the individual sheets up if I don't need that much. Thanks for you hacks!!!

"Many moons ago" I used Kleenex to wrap each piece of jewelry!!! We stayed in a hotel and I was going to wear my pearls to dinner but changed my mind and wore a different necklace. When we returned home from our trip and I put my jewelry away, I realized my pearls weren't there. Evidently, the maid threw them away with the Kleenex!!! You can bet I never used Kleenex to wrap my jewelry again!!! I use the little jewelry plastic zip bags.

For the hack making the planter waterer…. Growing up at 12 I didn’t have a drill and needed to put holes in a plastic planter I tried over and over with a screwdriver and had the idea of heating the tip of the screw driver over the stove for a few seconds it popped through that super thick plastic like butter! When you don’t have access to somethings it really makes you work your brain if you really want to do something! The screwdriver doesn’t get ruined at all! By the time you go to dig out the drill you could’ve opened that messy kitchen drawer and heated the screw driver for a few seconds. Also if you don’t want to buy a drill boom you’re good. I have a drill now, it’s handy but not as handy as this is!!! Try it!

Great ideas, as usual! A couple of hacks for your consideration: soaking apple slices in a solution of 1/2 tsp salt and 1 cup water for 10 min prevents them from browning. Just drain after the 10 min and refrigerate. Great for lunches and snacks! And… To defrost food like veggies or meat faster, place a cookie sheet on the counter, put the food on the sheet, and then add another sheet pan on top. Metal is a better conductor of heat than air and as a result your food will thaw faster. Thanks for the great content!

Awesome ideas. Take a bit of caution using baby oil on stuff (kitchen sink). It doesn't decompose, will line the pipes and eventually promote build up and clogs.Years ago it was a trend to cover your skin with baby oil after showering to 'trap' the moisture, but it didn't take long to hear that washing it off created clogged drains. Aside from that, these are great tips and ideas...keep up the good work!

A low-key alternative is to soak the label overnight (sometimes longer) in oil. I will typically just spread the oil on the label of a glass jar, and then put it out of the way on a flat plate or bowl to soak. Oil breaks down glue, it's the chemistry of it. A small amount of labels will leave a super difficult "calcium build-up" type --type of super thin material which is hard to remove. I don't know what that super thin material is actually made from, but --and I hate to say this ---I've gotten it off with the "spit shine" method. I've only come across small amounts of it, but, the "spit shine" method of using your own spit, is a good last resort. I usually remove labels with oil because it's less toxic in general and on my hands, and is easier (olive oil from the pour bottle for the stove), as long as I designate an out of the way spot on the counter for the overnight soaking, U just wanted to mention the idea, because a lot of people stress over getting labels off, when easy tricks are available.

If you have any left over lemons: Slice the lemon and then place the slices on a baking sheet (which has previously been covered with cling wrap, aluminium foil, or baking parchment). Place the baking sheet of lemon slices in the freezer, once frozen place them in a ziplock bag and they're ready to add to cold drinks whenever you need them. I just wanted to take a moment to comment about your lampshade succulent potting hack. I ❤ the idea. I have worked with succulents for several years now and when you are repotting, the plants love it if you loosen up the soil from the roots during the process because it helps them to grow even more than just putting them in new soil. This also is good for other plants. I hope this helped someone.

For the full bottles of toiletries travel hack, after you do the cling wrap, if you put bottles standing up in a Ziploc gallon bag, and then place them in your suitcase so that the bottoms are going to be towards the bottom of your suitcase when you’re pulling it vertically, that’s a second barrier. I do realize that the luggage handlers are going to throw them around, but that double layer of protection makes me feel better … and if we’re driving instead of flying, even better.

I have used denture cleaner tablets to clean jewelry for years. So great for diamonds and gemstones, even some costume jewelry. At the end of the video where you were trying to get the label off the jar with nail polish remover, I’ve tried this with little success.. however, I now use a cotton ball and vegetable oil. It removes the paper and the sticky residue from the label quite easily on glass jars as well as plastic canisters and storage containers. You are not using a lot of oil, therefore, it is easy to rinse after you remove the label. Thank you for all these great ideas!

I reuse my glass pasta sauce and pickle jars for dry goods in the pantry - rice, dry pasta noodles, lentils, dry beans, cornmeal, and grits store great in these containers and can be labeled for easy identification. I keep the rubber bands off of asparagus and herb bunches in a drawer then reuse them later when needed. I get castile soap (yo, Dr. Bronner!) and mix it with Dawn plus water to make a great dish washing agent. To make solution fill an empty 24 oz Dawn container with a 5th of Dr Bronner's, then add a 5th of Dawn to the container, and add water to the top (a low flow is best). Close up the bottle and gently turn it bottom over top until combined (try not to make suds as that is the cleaning agent). It will be fluid but a little goes a long, long way. This helps your Dawn to last longer but still cleans a tremendous amount of dishes. I use about a quarter cup per sinkful of water (I believe my sink holds three gallons). For those who have firepits - don't toss your wood ash - save it and sprinkle it on trees and bushes. The sodium bicarbonate is good for them. Same with banana peels - the potassium in banana peels acts as plant food. Last one - don't throw out toilet paper rolls or your dryer lint! Store your dryer lint in a container and when you go to make a fire pack some of that lint into the empty roll, squeezing the ends to keep the lint inside. These are great for camping or for the backyard firepit.

Agreed! Removing as much air as possible from between the film & the paint or plaster helps minimize mold formation. When I use most of a gallon of paint, I pour the leftover into a mason jar (less room for air & smaller to store), add plastic film against the paint surface & over the rim, then pop on a lid.

Hi Liz. Another idea for the winter is add Ice Melt to cheap stockings or pantyhose after you cut off the legs and lay the full stocking along the edge of the roof or in the gutters. It will keep ice buildup from backing up in the edges of your shingles and help keep ice cycles from hanging off the house.
