Nice ride well done...I live in Calif..born and raised here..born in 1953 in So Cal and ended up in the same area Steve McQueen would come out to ride in back in the day. Near the Indian Dunes motorcycle park Newhall Calif...A lot of Hollywood people would come out and have a good time there...Fast House which was a small old beater house for drinking at and camping out..By 1970 as kids we were on the Husky motorcycles 390 cc and such....McQueen and Malcolm Smith too....love the old Triumphs got myself one in 1977 a T 140 V red and white beautiful stock bike with handlebars with a bit of a rise...McQueen and the rest loved all that desert riding area out there around Saugus , Newhall , Palmdale, Lancaster...and so did us kids in the 60's till the 70's...

See if you can find some wide bars with a cross brace. We would wind our tow rope around it or mount an enduro jug which held about a quart of water. We also had spare spark plug carriers which would mount to the bars. Hard to come by but there was also a number plate/first aid combo box that would mount at the top of the fork tubes. I don't remember anyone with a strap across their seat but I do remember leather tool bags attached to the top of the rear fender. I would route a spare throttle cable and clutch cable next to the ones in use and keep them together with black electricians tape. Lots of memories coming back to me from that time of my life.

I saw this bike a couple of years ago in the car park of an autojumble / show - it was the only photo I took of a bike all day. Well done.

That's absolutely spot on, sounds terrific. 'My good friend Rick Parkington'. That says it all really in the classic bike world. You couldn't have a better mentor. Best wishes, Dean in Oxfordshire.

Beautiful bike, looks totally original, great job on the paint. Spot on with the details, I would've said it was an original Desert sled.

I watched this for a second time, enjoyed it again, I am near Salisbury Plain, you need to come down and spend a weekend , Hope to make it to the Malle Mile next year ,as I miss it this year, Love those pipes, Do you know where I can get pipes for my 79 Bonn 750, ? Cheers
@ColemanCustoms3 жыл бұрын
Glad youre enjoying it enough to watch a second time round! I am planning on getting that way at some point! Not sure about 750 but I would imagine 650 pipes would fit with some modifications. Might also be worth giving ace classics a call!

Really love your motorbike, sounds great. The spare throttle cable is a nice touch too, my brother used to desert race in the '70s and I remember one time that he broke his throttle cable and had no spare. I drove to Phoenix last year to buy a matching numbers '70 T100C (only $750) that had languished in the desert. It's all original and has the most amazing patina on the tank which I think that I don't want to repaint. Unfortunately, it's a '69 tank (green) but that's ok I guess. It will need all new rubber, cables, carburetor, etc, but I'm excited to work on it when I have more time. I live in San Diego, so I think I'll take it out to the desert at least once for fun when it's done.

Thanks mate! Yes absolutely essential once you've had one you feel unprepared without one! Sounds like a cracking bike, I hope that working on it and riding it is full of fun. They're are great bikes, treat them well and they will do the same! Will

Great video, what have you used for an ignition system? Also regarding footrests the equivalent parts for later models have small lugs that locate under the subframe bolts and stop them turning. Otherwise check the tapers match and lap them with some valve grinding paste. Thanks for the video. Paul

Bit late but you’re not far from the only desert in the UK. Dungeness. But riding a motorcycle on shingle really isn’t possible.

I really, really enjoy these videos and I tell others I know about them, but can I ask that you introduce yourself at the start of each one please so that we can put a name to a face? Thanks and keep going...... Best Regards Steve
@ColemanCustoms3 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve! Thanks for watching and spreading the word it is much appreciated. I'm not sure how natural I would feel about introducing myself in every video, however you raise a good point and your opinion is very much important. Do you think it would be beneficial if I were to do a Q&A video? That way my viewers could ask away and get to know me a little better whilst being in charge of what questions get asked. Let me know what you think! Thanks again Will
