On the DVD release of this, the fingers the punk characters flip to Dog & Robot and the finger Robot misguidedly flips back to them are covered by a black square.

It's been along time since a movie so instantly jumped to one being one of my all time favorites. I adore everything about this movie. The animation. The music. The world. The characters. This is a movie where I wish I could see more of this world. I could seriously watch an MCU amount of movies about these characters just living their lives. It's one of those movies where I want to rewatch it as soon as I finish seeing it. And, honestly, it's CRIMINAL how overlooked it is right now. Granted, a lot of that is due to the fact that seeing it in theaters is super difficult right now (at least in the States). I hope that this movie will be found by more and more people once it hits streaming. I'm glad to see a natural fandom beginning to form around the movie and I hope it continues.

6:54 Not only do Rascal and Robot pass on the street, they are attracted to one another--even as Dog possessively pulls on Robot. What a rich and imaginative film!
@RichardYu19834 ай бұрын
Also, the replacement of Robot's torso parts with a boombox was a reference to the Ship of Theseus thought exercise. As we grow and evolve, we are both the constituent parts and the narrative that was a part of the journey. The Robot dog had known was no more -- now he was something completely different which showed the growth of his character.

#58 - Orange and blue are the colours of NY Mets. Since we see a reference to the soccer team NY Cosmos in Dog's apartment, it's likely he's also a Mets fan. Rascal's apartment has a Mets banner on the wall and he and Robot go to a Mets game together. It could be that Dog's passion for the Mets was passed on to Robot and then passed on to Rascal. :) Great video, spectacular film.

No, Rascal was already a Mets fan before meeting Robot. He has a bobblehead in his car before meeting Robot at the scrapyard.

The reference to "Ya'll are running out of stuff to say about this movie im crying" at the end was hilarious cause i was thinking of that throughout the entire video, but there's a CRIMINALLY LOW number of videos on youtube talking about this movie and I NEED to feed my HYPERFIXATION

I think there was a Sopranos reference too, when Rascal and Robot visits pizzeria named Vesuvio (I could be wrong it could be just named after the real pizzeria with same name). There was also Stanley Kubrick’s Shining reference too in the Halloween scene when twins visits the Dog. In the subway scene (near the guardian angels) there’s someone wearing a military jacket similar to that Travis Bickle wore (Taxi driver). Great catch btw I agree it was a great film; the best movie I’ve seen so far this year
@ComicDan4 ай бұрын
I think that might just be a veteran reference. It very well could be a Rambo refrence too, but it was a very popular jacket it could be from anywhere so I'm not sure if it's exactly a reference to Taxi Driver. BUTT At around an hour and 17 minutes into the movie you can see in the bottom right a character wearing that jacket WITH sunglasses driving a Taxi.

Regarding #8: AMICA is indeed Italian for friend, but more specifically (as in Latin) for girlfriend. This is a friendship, yes, but also a romantic relationship--even if it is beyond gender or sexuality.

Watching from Hong Kong, I watched this film yesterday as my birthday, love it! That is one of the best birthday gift I have! It is a shame this film is rarely advertised here., that deserves way more recognition. And love your video!

Regarding 13:16, animation director Benoit Feroumont draws himself as a bear on social media and you can spot this character on a framed photo on the William Bell's Happy sequence where Rascal and Robot are browsing stuff on the Flea Market. Berger is also referenced there! So there might be a couple of those scattered around the film in blink-and-miss moments.

Thank you for taking the time to go over some of the details in this movie! Robot Dreams is a such an amazing film and details like these are a lot of fun to learn about and really make me appreciate a film all the more with how much time and thought was put into making them. I'm not sure if this one counts but one detail that kind of got to me when re-watching the film was when Robot is being pulled by the Alligator junkyard owner, I believe there is a "Wrong Way Go Back" street sign or something along those lines seen in the background right before Robot gets thrown into the junk pile and destroyed as well as, in my opinion, the sign having a double meaning representing his relationship with Dog that Robot is going the wrong way further away from him and to go back to where he was at beach or else Dog won't be able to find Robot. You did such a great job on this video, it makes me want to re-watch Robot Dreams several times and see how many more possible details are out there as well!

One crucial thing to note from this movie is the ending, which is a bit reminiscent to the Damien Chazelle's 2016 classic La La Land, for two things: it says a lot about the characters and, interestingly enough, it ended the story in the right way instead of the best way. Here, Robot sees Dog with his new friend Tin. Instead of meeting him, much like we saw in the movie, he eventually gave up on the idea and stayed with Rascal, especially when he sees him being happy with Tin while he's also happy with Rascal. Hence, he plays their favorite song, September by Earth Wind Fire, as some sort of their goodbye, unknowingly to Dog. On the other hand, Mia and Sebastian didn't actually end up being together since they both have separately different goals in life (i.e. Mia became an actress while Sebastian built his own jazz club). Despite that, Damien Chazelle eventually broke our hearts by showing what COULD they have been, which is similar to how Robot fantasized on what could it have been when he actually tried to renunite with Dog. Sebastian could have helped Mia achieve her own dream, went to Paris with her, and even had a family with her. In this case, when it comes to character, the movie showed happy and appreciative they are to each other despite not ending up being together. To be fair, both Damien Chazelle and Pablo Berger are unable to forcibly reunite these characters since they both had different lives at the end. Robot and Dog are happy with their new partners, and Mia and Sebastian achieved their lifelong dreams, who are still have a beautifully appreciative relationship at the end. Besides, if that would have happen, it might have sour the character developments they had in their respective films. Hence, this is what makes a movie ending RIGHT, despite not being satisfying or the best. These are just my takeaways though. Both are amazing films, among my top 10, in which Robot Dreams has become one of my top 3 favorite films of all time. With that said, I highly recommend La La Land to those who haven't seen it (unless you dislike jazz musicals and rom-coms).

ROBCOP is a reference to Robocop. the bot is human size of The iron giant/the robot from Wizard of Oz. then he got the same hit on the head. 2nd version of robot is a reference reverse to Star wars gold robot. which is gold with a silver leg. This is silver with a gold leg. the barber scene is from Coming to America with Eddie Murphy. the title is a reference to Isac Asimov Books. Sorry if I've done repetitions with the video. I just wanted to point out that the due to the rerelease of the Taking Heads concert film “Stop Making Sense” I started listening to their music and noticed the album cover Remain in Light at the 12:09 mark of your video. I've always wondered, "why did dog spit in his goggles before using them at the beach"? Well its because the uneven surface creates conditions for the beads of moisture to settle on the lens, so spiting in them actually helps stop a layer of mist forming on the inside of the mask! huh, go figure.
