60 YEARS: Famous OTIS Hydraulic Elevator at Macy's at Walt Whitman Shops in Huntington Station, NY

I can't believe this elevator is now SIXTY YEARS OLD! It's enough to find an original hydraulic motor at this age. To put the age of this elevator in perspective, Kennedy was President when this elevator went into service and the mall opened. All I can say is Happy Birthday and many more!

That is incredible that that elevator has made it to 60 years old and still sounds like it is running well overall, yet we sometimes have elevators installed in the 90s and 2000s that have already had modernizations. In my opinion, it's really a testament to the quality of the equipment and the job that has been done maintaining it. This elevator has carried generations of people; it's carried people that went long before us, and it's carried thousands, if not millions of people throughout its life.
