Like many Dearbornites, we spent ever single summer's 2 week family vacation out at Camp Dearborn in Tent Village. Some years it was so hot. Bugs being zapped all night. Campfires. Parents drinking. All years a blessing to spend with family and friends. I remember sitting in the car at the Rec Center while my Dad was inside lining up each years spot. 1972 - 1982. I wish I was back there...

Absolutely LOVED Camp Dearborn in the ‘60s! A week in Tent Village is one of my fondest memories, but day trips were just as much fun. My last trip there was as an adult in 1975, and it was a day of sun, fun, and precious memories.

I remember camping in those old tents in the 60's. My Dad and Mom would take us there on Ford Motor Company Day. I remember going fishing with a cheap zepco fishing rod. Good memories with my family.

Long time camp Dearborn visitor here (1981-1998)….I can't deal with the disrespect from other visitors anymore these days with no regulation being enforced. last summer of 2020, I visited here after many years away and a Lady in the tent next to us (C25) left a tiny dog barking non stop in her tent every day while she left in the early hours and returned at night . I called to complain several times over the course of 3 days and nobody ever did anything. Also waking up to neighbors blasting their music (Bass Machine) from their cars Parked at their camp site at 7AM playing "im a barbie girl, living in a barbie world" isn’t ideal for me… combine this with the crazy amount of mosquitos .. I cut my trip short by 6 days and couldn’t wait to get home. "Serenity now”... and what happened to the big Mosquito zappers they used to have all over the grounds? We used 2 cans of deep wood off with deet and still got eaten alive.. just overall.. im done with renting a tent here. I now only go for 1 day visits to take my kids fishing and swimming.

We lived on North Garner Rd in Milford, which bordered Camp Dearborn -- -and for many years, was a stretch that had no fence. SO -- lots of people tried to park on Garner Rd to avoid entrance or parking fees. Before their cars got towed.

Family and I camped in our big two room tent and it was placed on the hill side. All in tent were at the front door by the time we woke up the next morning..lol Watched movies outside and there was a blue zappers machines to zap the mosquitos and other pesty bugs. Took dirty dishes to a round building with sinks to was them. Went between 1965-1969 (58 years ago first went) We went until they started to charge people in staying. There were other places to see besides camp.. like: Greenfield Village, Holland Tulip Festival, to upper Michigan to Paradise to see the Tahquamenon Falls

Hah. One of the youngsters in the back of Mayor Hubbard's entourage was sending a private message to the photographer and to posterity at the 7:03 mark.

Does anyone remember a YMCA day camp at Greenfield Village in the 60s?

Franklin Purrington rescued many a fair damsel when he was a Lifeguard At Camp Dearborn. We won’t discuss what he saved them from…
