Good decision..Being in the logging business for over 25 years, when it comes to low end torque & pulling power, most times more is not always better. These big companies focus on selling you equipment..They don't cover the fact that if a machine is 1000's of pounds heavier than what ur currently using, it takes a good portion of that extra HP to move the extra weight itself. Ex: My 11 ton Dozer with 110 hp pulls 1000 bdft of red oak up a 25 degree incline just as fast as my 13 ton machine with 145Hp. Factor in the increased fuel consumption and the added cost of Def. I spent 20..ish % more $ to produce the same amount of log dollars on 2 identical timber harvests, and had to have oversized load permits to move the bigger machine.

I live in the Mississippi Delta. We farm corn, cotton, rice and soybeans. We’re also in the precision land levelling business to level land for flood irrigating rice and furrow irrigation for row crops. I put 8000 hours on a 9510R pulling buckets, sold it and bought a 9570R with Cummins power. The 9570 had a high pressure fuel pump failure and they brought me a 9620R. I will say this the Cummins power is absolutely awesome! Huge improvement over the 9560’s and 9510’s. They are absolute turds. I had constant nightmares with emissions failures on my 9510. The 9620 rental was an absolute beast as far as pulling power. My 9570 has 2800 hours now and we’ve decided to trade it on a 9R640. I’m a little nervous but hopeful since it’s a new engine design by Deere. Precision land leveling is a big business here and Steiger is the most popular brand on buckets. Based on my tens of thousands of hours of experience they are a better tractor for pulling scrapers than Deere. Deere is good at making row crop tractors but CaseIH has them beat at building articulated tractors.

@@clearskiesranch1362 The amount of people that harp on the right to repair issue while not realizing all the other manufacturers have the same constraints shows how little people are aware. Deere is the largest manufacturer - and the only one that most non-farm people have even heard of - so they get picked on the most on KZbin and in the media. But the fact is that Deere agreed to right to repair changes in almost 2 years ago in January of 2023, and CaseIH/New Holland only eased their restrictions AFTER Deere did.
@clearskiesranch1362Ай бұрын
@@ky2auburn exactly. This whole “right to repair” argument is such a joke. I can walk into my local Deere dealership and purchase the software to work on anything green today and have been able to for the last 30 years. Total waste of time talking about it unless they start requiring a credit card swipe or a certified Deere mechanic to change the oil.
@ky2auburnАй бұрын
@@clearskiesranch1362 The other thing that people in cities and suburbs that are completely disconnected from agriculture (but still comment on these videos) have no clue about: Parts availability long-term, and the impact to price. Try getting a part for an older machine from another brand. They drop parts WAY sooner than Deere. Yes, Deere is expensive. But they also stock parts for more machines and continue to do so for much longer than their competitors. That infrastructure costs money. It's why Deere machines hold their value longer.

what is cost of ownership. Rebuilding an engine after how many hours? Then again how much is that PTO+ Tripoint worth too? Could it run the Crossover or Harvester if needed? Having a drop in replacement might be a saver in the middle of the harvest? Not one to replace your plowhorse, but what about the others?

Our 9510 had almost 8000 hours before the engine went down. We could pull the grain drill and the grain cart but not much else other than tillage because the tracks are too wide for row crops.

If you compare torque instead of horsepower you will understand why there is not that big of a difference. For the record, ask the retail price on the turbo on that engine. That might be a deal breaker.

I know that a lot of farmers trade up every few years but what about the parts availability and longevity after 6,7, or 8 years or more for farmers who keep equipment longer. Deere has made so many different models that it seems to me it would be a hard thing for Deere to keep parts longer than 7 or 8 years. (a warehousing headache). What if you had a 7 year old machine and inquired about parts and were told they considered that model obsolete and that specific part was unavailable...

Don’t buy the tractor. Lease it. Buying doesn’t help at all on the tax side. Depreciation and interest don’t add up enough to lower taxes. Lease it to own. You can claim the lease payment and depreciation as a write off with no increase in your net income.
