The whole reason gold is valuable is because: It's rare. Art does the same thing, it's all about moving value without converting to USD, because taxes can only be paid in USD. Art is used to buy people, silence, hits, lobbyists, drugs, anything you don't want to have a paper trail associated with. It's the currency of the underworld.

Kurt's NFT analogy is ~correct in many cases. I used to install high end art for collectors, galleries, and celebrities in LA. I've handled many Cy Twombly's, Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, etc.... and installed for various clients including Brad Pitt, Meg Ryan, Schwarzenegger, etc... Regardless of subjective opinions or art theory/aesthetics, there is a very objective business around fine art. A lot of people don't realize that often it is the galleries and/or collectors who are the real artists when it comes to artworks fetching insanely high prices. Art collectors are ~investors first and foremost. Often collectors will conspire to make a previously unknown artist famous as an investment strategy. They agree among themselves to all purchase an artists work and heavily promote him/her. This creates a buzz where other collectors and galleries scammer to be the next one to obtain work from the artist while they still can. I've seen works which were purchased for hundreds of dollars sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars within five years due to this phenomenon. At the end of the day it's just a buy low, sell high money making strategy. Thanks for having Kurt Metzger on. It would be cool to see Clayton & Natali Morris from Redacted on some day. ✌

But if you are honest you should get it on your own just from your comment. Dog shit to average person says it all, doesn't it? I mean bjj is boring to the average person, too, sports are wildly overvalued for the average non sports fan, it's all the same. I can tell you why Twombly is great and why art people love him, the prices are simple economics, but if you are not interested and don't give it a shot, you will never get it but that's so with most things. Goethe said once: who doesn't feel it, won't hunt it either.

@@phantom2369 But objectively the pieces are not good. Art is the most subjective thing in the world. If your art looks like something a 3 year old did, I'm sorry it isn't good. @phantom2369
@phantom2369 Жыл бұрын
@@BadDays2050 yeah and where do you take the knowledge from to asess that? XD Did you study scatches and drawings by Michelangelo or raffael, compared them to Basquiat and realized that they are of the same quality? Did you ever study art yourself and watched every 3rd semester draw perfectly? Probably not you are probably just some guy, who thinks he gets stuff. Do you go up to chemists and tell them what to do or to doctors asses their work? OK the last thing you probably do do but it really is embarrassing how many people think they can have a opinion on something they know nothing about. But to really answer it and I get why this could be hard to get for people who are not in the space. Everyone can make realistic drawings or paintings there is absolutely nothing to it but discipline. Really there is nothing to but that. Every 3rd semester at an academic level is able to do that but after like 200 years that gets boring. Art is creativity nothing else. You can be sure that every "mistake" is absolutely meant to be there

Aroko 76 You could literally say that about all art. When people say shit like “oh anyone can do that, it’s just a bunch of swirly lines”. It’s like…. Yeah maybe the technique isn’t crazy and it’s not photorealistic, but that’s the point. The point is that the artist did paint it. And if it’s so easy then why doesn’t everyone do it? There’s plenty of Van Gogh’s and Pollock’s that no one gives a shit about. So no it’s not just the name behind the painting

Then do it and see how much you can sell it for. Art is worth whatever people are willing to pay for it for a multitude of reasons. Do you think the people who make this just "throw shit on a canvas magically and then people buy it? Why do they buy it? What do you know about the artists history and why he paints that way? If its that easy to just scribble and sell it why isnt everyone famous artists? Your argument sounds like a 6 yr old trying to explain something. Jackson Pollocks art is NOT about how it looks visually. He didnt just wake up and paint that way one day. Do you understand about "process painting"? I would say d some research on why he paints that way and what it means, but i know you wont and pretend that you did. Honestly, you sound pretty damn ignorant and havent done anything to try to even understand art, artists, styles or the reasons for their process. Enjoy your life of ignorance.
