If you've already shown the 600 nitro Express when you're shooting think it was the armor. I figured you'd be getting a bigger gun by now. I've already seen a few channels that shot 900 Express rounds or 950 Express rounds if you don't believe me look at forgotten weapons. And the 900 Express was not the biggest round they were using either they are bigger guns out there than that

Passed on a B. Searcy in .500NE cased for $16K a couple of years back on GI. But glad I waited and recently got a basic Verney Carron .600NE cased for a grand less. Can't find the $50/round Kynoch ammo, though. But I really want a basic.500NE Markel 140 for much less that I can shoot comfortably for only$10/round. Lost one at auction for $11.5K. Still pissed. These guns are expensive, but you only live once.

The 700 only came along in 1988 when a customer could not get a 600 Nitro from H&H. He asked about 700 and H&H said, 'sure'. The 600 was considered unnecessary by many professional hunter back-in-the-day. The most common stopper was the 577. The 577 was a bit lighter in weight & ammo (and components) were much more accessible. The 577 Nitro was the workhorse stopper of Africa, the 600 was the high end 'fancy' stopper. 85 years later, the 700 comes around, but long after the glory days were dead & gone.

Got a .600 recently. Figured I'd never be able to find one that cheap. A .700 was available for ONLY $5K more, but it misses the classic/heyday boat, so hard pass. But the .500 or .577 are what I wanted. At least the .500 is around only $10 a shot, and like you said, the .577 is much more rational. The .375 H&H, .416R, and .458L (at the very end of the era) are where it's at with bolts. And the .450R is another 80s cartridge that missed classic status, IMHO. Of course I'm still looking for a .505G with bells and whistles (not a CZ) that I can afford.

The bullet weight increases a TON from 500 to 600, while the overall length looks similar. The 700 case looks longer for caliber, and the barrel looks much beefier. Scott, you shooting that rancid sour cream reminded me of an incident with a man I once called friend. He was in the back yard of another friends' house, a couple of guys were tossing some things at him, and he was knocking them out of the air with a stick. The brother of one of the guys went through the fridge and found some old (maybe 2 year old) sour cream and went out back to toss it into the ditch behind the property. Well, I don't know how, but the man I once called friend somehow covered the entire back yard, and smacked the container as hard as he could. It exploded all over him. To put it in D&D terms: he succeeded his first two fortitude saves, but failed the third.
