What a superb compilation. Some of these clips literally made the hair on the back of my neck stand on end. I remember as a boy seeing the Union of South Africa close up at an open day at Haymarket depot in Edinburgh. To say the locomotive is in icon would be an understatement.

to be honest anything less than a kx-waverley-aberdeen and back sprint is an underwhelming goodbye to no 9. my fave a4. did it a few times ecml. ummed and ahhed about going to elr to say bye but in the end decision made for me lol. at least last time i saw her was full pelt not plodding around

What unbelievably fitting farewell to 60009, bought tears to my eyes knowing she'll not be seen in steam again, I remember when I was a young boy in the late 50's trainspotting at Grantham, Retford and Donnie seeing 60009 and other A4's A1,s ect steaming through also sneaking into Donnie works on a Saturday afternoon great days of steam. Can't we have a mass collection to pay for the boiler work and get 60007 back on the tracks.

Thank you very much Paul, glad you enjoyed the video :) That's fantastic to hear you got to see steam on the ECML in the 50s, it must've been something truly special! My grandad also use to do trainspotting at Retford & Doncaster during the 50s as well :) 60009 will most definitely be missed, she really is something special. The good news for you on 60007 is she should hopefully be back in steam next year :) Cameron

@@jakedarling7549 hes not selling. hes no youngster either. the question is what happens in x years time. will she be up for grabs or will she be willed to the srps. second seems likely but would mean no better for her mainline prospects given their record therein

Very sad news , but considering her age and the cost of repairs , it was inevitable. I remember in 1994 being at Northumberland park level crossing when UOSA went flying past , you could hear the whistle from brimsdown that night .

We need to get the world's most famous steam engine on the rails again Mallard I just don't know why people think the flying Scotsman is the world's most famous steam because it isn't towards rail steam enthusiastic from the 50s and 60s

@@grahamfrear9270 because fame isnt about achievement or anything other than recognition. fs is more famous. more people will be aware that fs is a loco or at least a train per 1000 than mallard. is that deserved, not really. but it is what it is. kylie jenner and madonna are probably more famous than nelson Mandela at the moment. fame is a category all of its own.
