I was trying to explain to an American, we Brits attitude to steam engines. I explained we are almost fanatical about preserving them and teams of people have, for decades, worked slavishly to resurrect what amounts to a pile of rusty scrap. We have actually built new ones! We raise actual millions of pounds, the work goes on through the age of a properly grown up person, until a gleaming green (usually green) machine of great beauty rolls slowly out of a shed somewhere and a million people take pictures. Then we put as many coaches as we can behind them, point them at the steepest, most challenging gradients in the country and then thrash the life out of them!! He couldn't really see it.
@MarshSteamVideosTM3 жыл бұрын
He couldn't see it but thankfully there is many others that can see it, otherwise this video would not be possible !

The romance of a steam train cannot be beaten....So much history and intrigue are at play ...Think Agatha Cristie , and the "Orient Express".... the Pullman cars .. the corridors...No modern speed train ( Japanese) can give you the same shiver up your spine the way our British trains can... They are almost a living entity ...To me anyway...

On the very first shot there was steam coming out between two of the carriages. I guess they stopped somewhere and reconnected the line. Oh no, no brakes! England is so beautiful and green. Here in Las Vegas the only green we see is artificial turf. Lol They could use that locomotive to herd sheep. Seems to scare the heck out of them. Lol
@DanM0123243 жыл бұрын
I think all mainline steam engines in the UK are required to have updated air vacuum brakes, the steam you see coming from the carriages is probably the heating (uses steam). We’ve had a wet and cold May over here.

@18EStudios3 жыл бұрын
Yeah. From what I read, the A1 Trust said they'll only do 90mph runs if they are asked to for special occasions and such (Like what happened with Bittern back in 2013).
@MarshSteamVideosTM3 жыл бұрын
The locomotive is passed for 90 but is unlikely to run at those speeds for the time being. There's nothing to stop them from running into the high 70's and low 80's if necessary.

The Long Drag is considered 'both ways' by steam crews past and present, as both climbs are 15 miles in length, the Southbound climb actually begins at Petteril Junction and is a consistent climb all the way to Ais Gill, the Long Drag southbound starts just before Ormside. Thanks for the thumbs up !

A British steam engine? Who can pull a train of 13 coaches without a diesel at the back? What year was this engine built?
@voidjavelin233 ай бұрын
the first peppercorn A1 class batches were build in 1994, the last peppeprcorn has been scrapped on 1966. And then tornado being the next and newest member of the peppercorn family. Tornado has been built from scratch on 2008 by the A1 steam locomotive trust

I wonder if the crew of the MN was really trying or not?, obviously the A1 crew were.As much depends on the crew for a great performance, as does the condition of the loco on the day....... Whatever I like both locos, but I admit to being slightly more of a Bulleid fan, than a Peppercorn fan.

@joscallinet62603 жыл бұрын
These are really top-echelon steam-train videos, highly professionally shot from great vantage points. I HAVE ONE ISSUE with them - and that is, why is the SOUND still being recorded in MONAURAL? Nearly every 4K-resolution video camera made today has the ability to record the audio portion of the video in STEREOPHONIC SOUND. Adding stereo audio to the mix would greatly enhance the already-dramatic sense of 'being there.' In 2021, monaural sound is truly antiquated; it belongs in a museum alongside 78-R.P.M. records played on a wind-up Victrola phonograph. In the future, if at all possible, could your film staff please record these superb steam trains using a wide-dynamic-range stereophonic microphone equipped with a wind screen? If you need financial support to obtain such a microphone, I for one would gladly contribute toward its cost. Thank you!
@AndreiTupolev3 жыл бұрын
Film staff? I think most of these are just one or at most two people. These aren't professional companies
@joscallinet62603 жыл бұрын
@@AndreiTupolevThank you, Andrei. Your explanation goes a long way toward understanding why the sound is recorded monaurally - these people are very likely using technologically obsolete yet still optically excellent camera gear. I am grateful that they're willing to make the effort to get out in the field and capture the drama of these fine old trains. The sound is okay, even if it's mono. We get to see and hear these trains, and that's what counts.
@MarshSteamVideosTM3 жыл бұрын
Jos, If you could provide me some examples of steam train videos in STEREOPHONIC audio I may be able to begin to understand your preference. As Andrei said above, there is only the two of us and we don't claim to be professionals. Thanks for your positive feedback. Regards
@joscallinet62603 жыл бұрын
@@MarshSteamVideosTM Hi, I have found from doing a search on Google four examples of stereophonic sound, as applied to railway videos. 1) a video recording of electric suburban railway trains in the U.K., with the emphasis on the stereo sound (best heard over a decent pair of headphones) . Wish they'd done it instead with one of the trains you videoed! kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGnGfoConM-BsLc 2) a video, again emphasizing the stereo sound, of a tourist railway in Sweden _ good sound, but STUPIDLY overlaid with music - how DUMB! Still worth a look. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6CUipWfedWjhas 3) a SOUND-ONLY recording made back in 1958 of steam locomotives in action, somewhere in the U.S. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5bYfXSod6acfKs NO VIDEO. You do, however, get a good sense of 'being there' with the audio recorded in stereo. 4) From DULEVOZ, a Serbian train-engineer/driver AND videographer, a video recorded in 2160-P 4k and stereo sound, of the train-driver's view of a run from Vršac - Pančevo - Beograd Center kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5LQiIqdea93qs0 . Taken together, these four links give an idea of what today's high-resolution 4K 2160-P video cameras fitted with good stereophonic microphones can do.
@MarshSteamVideosTM3 жыл бұрын
@@joscallinet6260 I now know the microphones which are used to provide Stereophonic sound, as i have looked at them for my cameras before. Unfortunately neither are compatible with my consumer standard cameras. For the time being there is no real need to upgrade as complaints for this issue are at (two) There is another microphone which I'm looking at which I believe would provide Sterephonic sound but it's rather expensive. I appreciate the links you've provided and your general feedback.
