6.0 Powerstroke CAC Boots Install

Do your intercooler boots keep blowing off? then you need to watch this! In this video the 6.0 Bros go over how to properly install the 6.0 Powerstroke CAC boots. These boots are also called intercooler boots. CAC stands for charged air cooler. Many people have issues with these boots and are unable to get them to seal properly and are making their trucks work much harder because they have a boost leak. So In this video we also talk about some of the things to look for if your 6.0 Powerstroke (or other turbo diesel truck) gives you a turbo charger performance code. This truck is throwing code P132B. We identified the first issue with the truck and that is that the intercooler boots have been degraded from 18 years of working. So we ordered new clamps and boots from the guys over at riffraffdiesel. So If you are having a turbo performance issue before you replace the turbo you will want to check all of the things in this video prior to changing your turbo. Now this code can be triggered if your turbo needs cleaned. wait for part 2 coming out where I review how to further diagnose this truck to get it running right.

i have the sinister diesel intake piping. would these be a good upgrade for their boots? i did start to have the cold side blow off on me after 6 months. i believe it could of been operator error though. but learned that being stranded with boot problems is no fun!

I had the high pressure oil pump changed and now it makes a loud whistle noise and getting worse I have only put 450miles on it

Most likely sounds like an exhaust leak probably the y pipe to turbo connection

I found a stolen recovered 6.0 at auction but it's listed as a non start. Inspection isn't possible due to Covid. This is the exact spec that I have been looking for for ages and I guess will be cheap. Year 2006. 186000 miles. Worth taking a risk on?

@@six0bros would it be reasonable to assume that whatever is wrong with it is unlikely to need more than $3000 in parts to fix? Labour isn't an issue as I can fix things myself, right up to pulling an engine if necessary.

How tight did you go with the clamps? Love the RiffRaff boots/clamps but my cold pipe to intake elbow popped off a couple times lol glad it wasn’t the turbo boot

Each set of clamps is different but ford spec is like 110 inch pounds i think

Ok, dropping this here in case I am misunderstanding something. Have a 6.0 have a few issues lately. Here they are: 1. Noticed erratic idle at stoplights. Low power, and coughing/stumbling from engine going uphill. Talked to mechanic, said likely injector going out. Read CPU and low contribution on a cylinder...replaced driver side bank. 2. Couple of days later with same issue, suspected fuel sending unit, as ecu was in power save mode. Float on sending unit broke, pegging fuel to 0. Telling engine to save fuel. 3. Day or so later, same problem coughing g stumbling going up hill. Replaced passenger side bank. MUCH MUCH BETTER engine performance. Like almost livable, but when the coughing and low power cone back it is still bad to drive on interstate. 4. HOWEVER, stumbling and erratic idle come and go Intermittently. Unable to replicate scenarios, but seems more likely when going up a hill and gradually need to hit gas to maintain speed. 5. Today, was driving on interstate when i was LOVING the full set if new injectors and the acceleration and how strong engine felt. When going to an exit, i could tell that something changed and i hit the throttle. The engine downshifted and the tpms went up, HOWEVER the Turbo failed to provide more boost. Starting to suspect that exhaust back pressure/tube sensor might be contributing. 6. Mechanic says delete. Seems like a hammer looking for a nail. . Any thoughts appreciated. Obliged. Joseph

@six0bros I have a 4 inch exhaust it was on the truck when I bought it it has catalytic converter and a muffler it's making my whole truck vibrate mildly

@user-sn9yw4sf6v I would check the exhaust pipe it is likely rubbing by a pinch weld at the bottom of the firewall or there is a stud that comes out of your firewall that points towards your turbo it can rub on

Best way I found is to honestly take it off and grind it down or cut it. If you can fit something back like a Dremal you may be able to get it off without taking it all apart

My truck blows the bottom boot only when I’m hauling I hit 70 I let off the gas and boom but only when I pull any advice I appreciate it.

So it blows when you let off the throttle? Have you tried replacing boots and new clamps. Checking torque spec on thr clamps to make sure they are tightened how they should be? Does it blow off the pipe or off the intercooler? I'm happy to help just wanna make sure I have the right information first.

No it is not a common rail. The injectors are a hydraulic electronic actuated injection system

@@six0bros I overheated the truck and as a result had to do quiet a bit of work on it. I did the bullet proof route as it was recemmended. But the tar/burnt oil residue is still in the tubes. How does that effect the hoo ya the the air goes through to cool the air before it hits the turbo?

I would get them cleaned but it may be easiest to just have them hot tanked to clean them or buy replacements

@6.0 Bros yeah when I got my truck, I did all of the "bullet proofing" along with the egr delete and oil cooler upgrade. Went to drive it the first time and it fell on its face so upon inspection, that plastic pipe had a split along the bottom I replaced it with another one but will be installing one of the charge pipe kits next week

We’ll let me start by saying my turbo was making small noises of something grinding inside while I was driving , I don’t know why but I accelerated down thinking it would fix the issue but instead my truck started blowing bluish white smoke and ran for a little bit and ended up shutting off, and it leaked out a lot of oil during that time it leaked out on the passenger side of the truck looked like the smoke could possibly been from oil in the exhaust (2003 Ford F-250 6.0). Now it won’t start , and is showing a p132b code . A mechanic came with another computer and is claiming piston 5 is misfiring as well. Has anyone ever experienced this ? Or have any idea what it maybe? I don’t want too invest in all kinds of parts for no reason that’s why it’s important for me too find out what the issue is .

Hey there I know I’m a little late that same exact situation happened to me minus the misfire but that is 100 percent your turbo I looked forever on the internet and everything said head gaskets but that is definitely your turbo are you also getting bad mpg? If so then it is, hope I’m not too late to help

Sorry I am so late to this one. The grinding sounds like it was your turbo. Now for the truck not starting. You will need to monitor icp voltage, ipr%, ficm main, battery voltage, ficm sync, and cam sync. Your icp voltage needs to be at least 0.8 for the injectors to fire.

No it is a tight fit though. Which kit are you looking at I can get you an affiliate link off ebay and any affiliate links help thr channel even if you don't buy what you click on. I recommend a 3.5 inch downpipe to a 4 inch out the back. That said I have a 4 inch downpipe from the turbo back on my truck. One thing you could do to give a little room is to use a jack and 2x4 and jack up against the cab this will lift the cab slightly if there is any slack in it ans give a little room to help but with the y pipe and cab it is a very tight fit normally although I have never tried the trick I just told you

The black plastic pipe was put into production in late 04. Prior to that it was a metal cac pipe. You can still find it all over brand new they still make them
