Gone but not forgotten. I have watched DTR for more than a year. His videos have helped with so many things on my 6.0l. Just changed out my hot side elbow boot and the truck runs so much better. Ford Dealer part $120 (made in Romania) (08/18/2021). So happy to have a this medium and someone who cared enough to share his passion with the world. Thanks Ron. RIP.

I know this is an old thread, But I just saw your comment. And I want you to know that you, in every way possible, have more than picked up the reins in the world of fixing our fords that Ron once carried. We have been able to keep our 5.4l 3v going because of you. Please keep up the great work. In fact, a few weeks ago you made a video where you fixed your expedition inside the back end fender cover. And you had your little dog climbing around while you were working on it. Well it helped me to understand that I need to be more patient with my wife's little dog. And consequently helped my marriage and my wife be a little better and happier. You probably didn't know that you would be teaching a lesson to an old grumpy guy in Wyoming on how to be a better husband. Your influence continues in ways you might not even understand. Keep up the great work.

I strongly believe in life after death. And though I did not get a chance to meet Ron personally, I feel that one day I'll have a chance to sit down and express my gratitude to him face to face. That will be a wonderful day indeed. Thank you Ron. Today my fourteen year old son and I watched three or four of your videos and worked all day on our truck and it was magical. The legacy of a man is those he continues to help even after death.

I know Ron mentioned that the cold side doesn't fail very often but just to let everyone know, mine has. 2006 F350 6.0. The truck has been sucking (or blowing) air and missing some power for a couple of months now and I finally got a chance to hunt it down. I took off the cold side tube and there is a small crack in the flex portion at the bottom of the tube. It's about a 1/4" in size. Normal driving isn't too bad but the hissing is very noticeable when you put your foot into it.. I've ordered the upgraded metal replacement from Auto Nation Ford, White Bear Lake, Part #6C3Z-6C640-AA. $118 with 2-3 day shipping as opposed to the $249 stock plastic replacement from my local dealer in town.. Good luck, all. God bless, DTR!

Hey Ron. I discovered a new wrinkle on 'bad positioning' of the upper hot CAC boot. The mechanic had installed it backwards--resulting in the boot being blown off every time I generated any significant back pressure. The boot he put on didn't have the Ford markings on it indicating the correct sides-engine or turbo. The ends are not interchangeable. The turbo has a lip on it that needs to snug into an indentation on the boot--which doesn't exist on the other side of the boot. Also, as you point out, the 12 o'clock positioning of the boot mark is important because the boot is pre-bent to put less strain on it. Bad clocking puts even more strain on it.

Poignant for me. I just lost my brother and my son and I just bought a 6 liter F250. I just discovered your videos this week, and just ordered the Sinister Diesel upgraded pipes and needed to see just what is presented here. We are starting a property development venture and needed a beast. Thanx again to all who cared.

This guy is awesome. I have an 06 F550 6.0 and i broke my cold air intercooler pipe trying to get it back on after replacing the lower radiator hose. I couldnt get the cold air pipe back on so i hit it with a hammer and broke it. I am a carpenter not a mechanic. Now i know the proper way to install it. I love these videos they really help out the working man who cant afford to take it to a mechanic shop all the time. Thank you and may you rest in peace.

Thanks Ron! I took apart the hot tube and boots for inspection from this video- I ended up buying a Pittsburgh Torque wrench from Harbor Freight for $21- seemed to work ok, but I think the 'click' when you've reached the torque could be louder- I may have gone a bit past albs, but it worked out ok. Great vid!

Great video. Just replaced my CAC charge air cooler hoses in my recently bought 2006 F350 and noticed that the lower hose's clamps are different diameters. If reversed then when tightening the larger diameter clamp it will bottom out and give the illusion that it is tight on the hose when in actuality it isn't. I believe that when someone had done some work on it they switched the clamps, resulting in the bottom hose leaking oil and a blowby odor. Problem solved! Thanks Ron. RIP.

ATTENTION!!! I wish there was the "DONATE" option to benefit Ron's widow & family. His KZbin video collection benefits us all and are the absolute best when it comes to Ford 6.0 diesels. If the option to donate becomes available it is my hope that we all contribute to his family in his memory.

What was that you were saying about oil spraying from the cold side tube? Your voice was a little soft to hear, mines spraying from where the pipe connects to the intake elbow on the engine. I currently have a rag zip tied around it to keep the spray off everything nearby including the hood.

I just attempted this fix and failed. My dilemma was 1) The clamps break VERY easily and I had to replace three of them. 2) The clamp Ford diagrams was way too big. 3) The clamp on the tube side (not the turbo side) kept slipping towards the middle of the boot as I approached the desired torque. The clamp would not hold under boost. It turns out a less-than-careful mechanic over-torqued and bent my CAC tube so it isn't perfectly circular (4:35). I had my mechanic rig it to stay on. Make sure you get a torque wrench folks. Oh, and to save you the headache, most over the counter torque wrenches start at 10ftlbs and 120inlbs when you need 9ftlbs or 108inlbs. So, you need to be careful what you buy for this fix. Also, it should be noted that the longer hose Ron refers to (0:15) is made of more material but somehow costs less than the short one. Hmmm.

Well, I got rid of the common upper CAC problem altogether using two 22 degree stainless tubing and a straight piece of high heat rad hose.3years and 50,000 miles later, no fatigue or blow-off. Made it all for 36 dollars..... far less than the 90 dollar ford hose thats gonna split on the inside corner again! And a lotta dealers dont even stock that hose. Guess I'll have to make a vid on the one I made.

Hi Ron I have a 2004 F350 6.0 Diesel. The problem that I have is when it starts its like its having a hard time building up fuel pressure or a lack fuel to start. I have been all over the internet to find out what the IPR% should be with just the key on not running and what it is while turning over.

Hey Ron I have a question about my truck I have a 04 f250 6.0 late model the problem I'm having is truck is blowing up radiator hose it builds to much pressure and I thought it was the pressure container or the cap but placed it with new one but does the same thing. And it doesn't over heat. So what could it be?

Spend the money on Dieselsite CAC boots and you'll never have to worry about replacing them again. These Ford boots are silicone and do not interact with oil well. They deteriorate and break apart.

Hi, Ron, I am not a trained mechanic but love to work on my 2006 F250 diesel. Your videos provided insurance for me before I try work on my truck. Now the truck developed oil leak from the CAC boot as oil and dirt built up in the area. Thank you so much... I wish you're in San Francisco, where I will simply drop it off to a great mechanic. :-)

Ron, I have a new upper boot on my CAC at the turbo. Since I replaced it keeps popping off at high boost anywhere from 14 to 20 lbs of boost. My replacement boot is a OEM Ford boot and is all blue inside and out. I noticed yours has a red silicone looking material inside the boot is there a difference? If not what can I do to ensure my upper boot stays on at high boost don't really want to use super glue? I will look at the orientation and make sure the white marking is at 12 o-clock like you had mentioned. I will make sire to clean hose and fittings very well with acetone.
