I have never understood the snobbery and elitism in the guitar community. I would happily rock that squier. The biggest drawback of the Bullet series is their quality control. You have to really find a good one, but when you do it's a great value. The Affinity series seems to be similar but much more consistent. I think we are at a time when a $300-400 dollar guitar is the highest end the majority of players will ever need. We should be celebrating that.

Tip on tuning instability with vintage trem. Stretch strings if they're new. Tune 1 string up to pitch, then press the bar. Continue those two steps until that string stays at pitch. Repeat for each string. Then, if one string goes oddly out of tune, just press the wiggle stick down and it should come right back. Basically it creates memory spots on the string where it breaks over the bridge saddle and the nut.

First I will replace the string tree with a roller piece. The nut on mine doesn’t look right. It has a slot in it between the strings and was clearly cut wrong! The nut will likely be replaced as well. Not sure about the tuners. I don’t have much time on it yet. I will try nut lube first. Definitely do not like the output jack location. I do have a cable with a 90 degree end piece which will make it more tolerable. Your observations and comments were pretty much spot on with my summation as well. Certainly worth the $229 I paid. Picked it up with a nice padded gig bag for $262 with tax.

Comment for anyone looking at these now that they’ve been out for most of a year from someone who just bought one: I can’t imagine a better guitar for under $300, and if you pointed to one you’d definitely be splitting hairs. Mine came ready to go right out of the box with near perfect intonation, reasonably low action, polished frets, a clean and conditioned fretboard, and a wonderful feeling neck with fret ends that don’t immediately need a file taken to them. Just tune the guitar and play and have fun. The pickups are even decent. With a three band EQ I can get close enough to that hollow surf twang that I wish I had a reverb pedal and it handles up to moderate crunch before getting muddy. Everything on this guitar is perfectly serviceable and nothing needs to be changed to enjoy it. My only two nitpicks which are that it’s balanced poorly with the guitar being on the neck heavy side and I found a couple of small flaws in the finish that are impossible to notice if you’re not looking for them and the light hits it at just the right angle. I would recommend this guitar to anybody. It’s a great first electric guitar but also could be a lot of fun for an experienced player that wants to see what these odd style Jazzmaster pickups are all about. It looks good, it feels nice, and it’s fun to play.

My MiL bought me one of these in Burgundy Mist for my recent birthday. She ordered it from Amazon - I was expecting the worse, frankly. It was playable immediately! Even the frets were polished (not as much as I like but easy to finish) Action was moderately low, actually lower than I normally set my own guitars ('cos I'm a heavy hitter). Result, low action no fret buzz, a straight neck. I will round over the edges of the fretboard when I can, but it's really not too bad. Plugged in I was really quite amazed by the sound quality particularly when the amp is set to what I call a Power Pop (like a powerful Townshend sound). They are intense, unique and complex in the sound - quite different to my ears from a Stratocaster. Overall a bloody good guitar. Best, Pete.

I've tried a bunch of JM's, and have become convinced that the shorter scale variants ,- mainly the Jag and Duo Sonic,- are the preferable "versions" of the design. Because of the bridge style and trem( Jag), and as far as pickups and wiring( Jag vs. JM), I'd say the Jag is more singular , as opposed to a Strat or Tele.Of course, they make some cool hybrids now,- but I'd stick with the shorter scale, overall. Great that Fender offer these options, though.Whatever inspires you to pick it up.

Good demo and review so thanks for that. That Squier has value because is is an offset body, my favorite Fender shape, but with that Strat style bridge, it's really more of a mash-up. I would miss my JM bridge/vibrato because I think that's important for the JM sound, nut the lack of the separate rhythm circuit wouldn't bug me. If someone gave me Affinity, i would just go full mash-up on it and install P90s or humbuckers and maybe even a hard tail.

Love the shirt Ryan. This is a cross between Shermi's Jaguar with Nicole's Strat! GFS is your friend here. They sell Jazzmaster pickups. Also a steel or brass "shorty block" for the Strat trem block would do wonders here that makes a HUGE difference on import "pot metal" trem like Squier uses. I have been using those brass blocks on my cheapo builds and it is one part where it makes a substantial difference. Keep in mind you might have to Dremel out the back of the trem hole to make the block work but definitely worth it! Also you will need to buy a new trem arm at the same time as you get the block because the hole for the trem arm takes a different size. They tell you that on the site but if you get a block, get a new arm at the same time.
@jerrysoetewey7002 Жыл бұрын
The pickups on these are more Jazzmaster sized then strat. They have the full Jazzmaster sized top and bottom flatwork, but they are more wound like a cross between an strat and a P-90 pick up. So wound not as broad and flat like Jazzmaster pick ups. Underneath the bobbins there are two bar ceramic magnets (like on a P 90) Neck is about 6.5 K, Bridge is about 10.4K, so less hot then the Squier std. Jazzmaster. I find them quiet balanced. I like how these are voiced. Neck is nice and clean, middle position does the Jazzmaster thing beautiful and the bridge has a polite P90 growl. I was surprised the guitar comes with 250K pots, hence the mellownes of this guitar I guess. But these pickups work great with cleans, dirt and even fuzz... It is indeed a FUN guitar, I'm enjoying it as well! It reminds me of the 2004 JagMaster, but with nicer pick ups imho. Trem is not bad at all. A bit of fiddling with the nut does wonders for the tuning stability. If I would upgrade anything, I'd go with the trem block. A full block would be nice on these. Great guitar for the price!

I really appreciate them going with the stray style bridge. Honestly might be the make or break for a lot of people

I think they did it to be cheap, but if you want a "classic jm" I feel bad for those kids

@@GUSCRAWF0RD idk i think a lot of ppl want it for the aesthetic and not its 'jazzmaster' qualities plus a lot of people complain about those style trems on low end squiers. i could definitely see wanting to have it though

Pickups sound fine, why not just swap the neck out for a warmoth?

I noticed that these don't have the extra switches and knobs like CV series, are there any any aftermarket pickgaurds available for these?

If you like the Squire Jazzmaster try out one of the MIM Cyclone Mkl, roughly 2003-2005...hot Atomic humbucker in bridge position...has 4 wires though 2 are taped together but you could extent the shorter wires to whatever you like,series/parrallel, phase reversal etc etc...24 3/4" Gibson scale length so you can use a size thicker strings...similar to your 3 pink single coil Cyclone with Strat pickups..the one with your face on it...the MIM Cyclone Mkl is an even better sounding guitar,i overhauled the electics & made the 2 wire humbucker a 4 wire with series/parrallel switch & single coil neck Tex-Mex Strat angled neck coil is really quiet good as humbuck's when in both single coils on mode...i did fully sheild it & better grade CTS linear pots,hifi grade polypropylene 2% caps & a 1% resistor...i like the Greasebucket tone circuit...more 3-D sounding, not so flat sounding & so smooth after using guitar for 300+ hours when caps have burnt in & stabalised...neat tone from a Jazzmaster...i really wanted 1 back in the late '70's playing in UK Punk Rock bands...it looks kool as well as sounding fantastic...i still think the Cyclone Mkl is one the most versatile guitars fitted with coil split & single coil toggle switch...nice sounds bud...🎸👍
