Not only did Sandler O'Neill lose more than one third of its employees on 9/11, but it also lost its entire World Trade Center headquarters. Steve Kroft was there as the financial firm returned to business.
"60 Minutes" is the most successful television broadcast in history. Offering hard-hitting investigative reports, interviews, feature segments and profiles of people in the news, the broadcast began in 1968 and is still a hit, over 50 seasons later, regularly making Nielsen's Top 10.

I still tell myself I’ve forgiven her, but I admit the bitterness wells up at my former boss that day. We were all in the conference room watching everything unfold and comforting each other, some coworkers had family in NYC, one at the WTC itself, some of us scared to be honest, etc, and she calls upstairs and tells our department to get back to work. She was a workaholic taskmaster with the health issues to show it. I’m proud that we defied her and didn’t go. They ended up closing the office early and sending everyone home soon after anyway. She was fired for other reasons soon after but I’m proud that day that I stood my ground for what really mattered. There absolutely zero about any of our non-essential desk jobs that was that important I promise you.

@@ssherrierable You can't say what people should or shouldn't feel. I bet the majority of the people who were in the towers when the attacks happened and walked out of there alive before they collapsed feel some sort of survivors guilt. Or the people who were late for work because of traffic, or their kid was sick, or they slept past their alarm, or their car battery died, or they had a water leak in their house, or they simply had a taste for a cheese croissant at a bakery out of the way on their way to work.

In 2019, investment firm Piper Jaffray acquired Sandler O'Neil for $485 million and created the firm now dba Piper Sandler. In the acquisition, all Sandler O'Neil employees migrated to Piper Sandler so they did not lose their jobs. In the end it worked out as it would have had 9/11 not happened - the surviving leadership of the company continued, pushed forward as he promised, and re-grew it back to just as strong as they were before the attack. They were purchased for almost half a billion dollars. That's no small potatoes. Everyone involved in getting the company back on their feet in this story should be commended.

@@lancehurley9743 That can’t be right because the plane hit on the southwest side. The people in the North had already seen the debris from the 1st plane hitting North tower & started to leave. Also like someone else commented, the plane hit at an angle in WTC2 so there was a stairwell to escape from. The issue was that the building collapsed in 1 hour. Most who died were those who didn’t make it down on time & I even those right outside who got buried in the rubble when the towers fell. I saw in another documentary that they found the most amount of bodies outside south tower buried in the lobby area. That’s just sad.

I am over here thinking: "can Americans somehow *UNITE* similar to how everyone did following the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center; but, hopefully without the tragedy of such destruction & loss"???? Ah...20 years later and still fresh - fierce competition offers them space -Others refuse to take commission -'We don't write poem, but we are wall street guys -This is like combat to me. What a difference, 20 years later, another huge national crises but people won't even wear mask for others. .sorry for bringing mask here, but can we just f....ing be together 🙏

After 20 years it’s amazing to see how much things changed. How much support there was then & how much division now. Everyone just standing in their own corner refusing to budge. Today people care more about hair cuts & buying beer than making any sacrifices for others.

After reading the tributes, on the anniversary every year, shedding tears, I then go to the video of President Obama, the night bin laden was finally killed. Then I feel a little better, I know it doesn't change anything, but it is still a relief, to know this evil person is dead.

All I can say to the survivors of this firm is this If the roles were reversed and they were the ones that were "GONE"? Those people would be standing there and saying "That no matter what" "You must go on with the Business of living"

What I can't believe is that people still believe that 3 buildings collapsed to the ground in perfect symmetry and at free fall speed because of jet fuel. Absolutely not possible.
