my boyfriends mom worked in the north tower. her boss told her to stay, but she said HELLLLL no and ran right out. thankfully she was floors below the impact. she ran all the way to queens. she passed away in 2018 from lung cancer and was never able to return to battery park or near ground zero…she was traumatized for life. she also couldn’t sleep without tv.

ive heard of how workers were told to stay in the south tower after the north tower was hit, but that all changed after the south tower was hit. telling people to stay in the NORTH TOWER after it was hit is absolutely crazy

My father and I stood on the 21st floor of tower 2 (south ) When flight 11 hit the north tower, my father in his infinite wisdom told me to follow him and get out. Although security told us to go back inside, we didn't. We left the building 3 mins before flight 175 struck. The things I've witnessed outside of the towers will forever stay with me. And has caused many problems later in my life as well as my father's. I thank God everyday that we made it out and j pray for the families of those who didnt. Because of my father being sick, I missed my job interview on September 7th. I could have very well been starting my new job on September 10th and would have been above the impact zone working on the 11th. I have 4 beautiful children who are here now and they know how close we came to the end.

​@@silviadalvia6545we were a few blocks away when the South Tower collapsed. We were far enough to avoid the falling debris but close enough that we were engulfed in the smoke and ash. We stepped into a small store owned by an older gentleman and he closed the door to keep us safe as the enormous smoke cloud passed by. It was until after the collapse of the North tower that we finally made it far enough away that we felt safe. If not for my father, I don't know what I would have done. It's like he knew exactly what to do and where to go to keep me safe. When he developed cancer later on in his life, the doctors did say that breathing all of that toxic air might have caused some of it. It wasn't until 3 full hours after the collapse that we finally got to a phone and notified my mother that we were safe.

I’m in a weird spot today because I am 30 years old and remember details of that morning so vividly. My coworkers, on the other hand, were barely 3 year old and 1 wasn’t even born yet so they have no memories like I do. It’s the same with my siblings, all of them were born in 2002/2003.

I was a newly promoted sgt in the NYPD. I was in training that morning at the NYPD's outdoor firearms training range in the city island section of the Bronx (rodmans neck ). It was a beautiful morning. Everything changed. We mobilized to Stuyvesant high school. It was pure hell. The days, weeks, and months in the aftermath will live in my soul forever. Same here in the uk I had worked a long 12 hour night shift and got home at 10am then went straight to sleep around a few hours later my brother burst in to tell me something bad had happened in New York by the time I got myself up and sorted I came downstairs at the exact moment the 2nd plane hit the south tower,my dad had died a few months earlier and my mum was away in Tenerife at the time,me and my brother just sat there in stunned silence for the next half hour or so,the silence was broken by my friend calling me as he’d just gone on his lunch break and had seen what was happening,we had been due to go to new York on the 21st September and very quickly realised that we would not be going now,then went back to watching the news with my brother and couldn’t believe it when the news came in about the pentagon and then United 93 crashing we wondered why the hell was next was this just the start of something even bigger,would the uk be a target how many more planes were hikacked in the USA!! I think evey thought possible went through our heads and it didn’t seem like it could be any worse until we saw the south tower go down and that just was horrible to see knowing thousands could have been in the building including fire, police,ambulance workers,even now I didn’t expect to see the north tower fall as well I hoped it would stand tall still but it fell as well. I’ll never forget 9/11 as long as I live and couldn’t imagine what being in that situation would be like until I happened to be in London on a job interview on July 7th 2005 it’s only by sheer luck and determination to not be late I avoided being on one of the trains that I would have been on had I gotten the next train to London and subsequently been on the underground train heading to Aldgate from Liverpool Street then I might not be here now. Rest in peace to all those who died on 9/11 and 7/7 and praise the heroes of United 93 who saved more life’s by acting selflessly 🇺🇸🇬🇧

I am a South African and was driving home from work when I heard on my car radio that a plane had crashed into the Twin Towers. I rushed home and switched the TV to CNN. The horror and sadness of pure madness unfolded in my living room. From across the oceans we gasped in unbelievability. What devastation! The events of 911 consumed me since then. I read every article, watched every documentary, and screened every video within my reach. The loss and suffering of so many is inconceivable. 23 years later the events of that unprecedented moment still haunt the soul.

I live in Australia, and I remember that day vividly. For some unknown reason, I woke up at about 3am Australia time and could not get back to sleep. Eventually, out of frustration, I got out of bed, went up to our living room and turned on the television, something I had never done before at this time, (and never since). At first I thought “What movie is this? It took a few minutes before I realized that this was not a movie! I raced up to our bedroom and woke my wife. Together, we watched the horrific devastation taking place right in front of us. This is something that we will never forget. Our hearts go out to those who lost family members. Stay safe.

I lived in Florida at the time, in middle school. we got put under lockdown and the teachers didn't tell us what was going on. Half the school had kids checked out by their parents and the principle called it an early release day after lunch. When I got home my sister was watching a replay of the events. I also thought it was a movie she was watching, but she was crying and said it wasn't a movie. That realization hit me like a punch to the gut. It really is true what they say about that day. You never forget where you were and what you were doing.

In UK, i woke up and got ready to go to work. I knew something was seriously wrong, but I had no idea what. I just knew. I had the nagging bad feeling all the way to work, but didn't know why. I just started kindergarten. My dad dropped me off at school and was heading to go to work at the Pentagon. When the second plane hit my mom begged him to turn around and come home. He did. Minutes later the pentagon got hit. I’m so thankful he’s alive each and every day. Here on September 11th, 2024. As a Canadian who was a kid at the time, I don't remember everything about that day, but I will never forget seeing the coverage of the Towers. Living in Southern Ontario and living along the 401 corridor, known as the Highway of Heroes, this day changed so much for not just the United States but for our country and the whole world. I am glad every year it is still being discussed. I feel like there are too many natural disasters that unless you were impacted by them get forgotten. I understand this was not a natural disaster but as the years pass, the impact is not lost all these years later and that is something I appreciate. Come From Away musical has allowed Canadian's to tell their experiences in a different way and not taking away from any American. But being attached to the States, we truly felt the impact here. I have never been able to visit the monument but I think often about the kids who grew up without parents because of this day. Listening to their speeches at the first or second anniversary when they spoke. Growing up without a parent or loved one because of this day. But knowing just how many firefighters and first responders were all true heroes that day and the weeks to come. As a Canadian I may not have dual citizenship, but I gave my voice and full support to extending the bill for families and victims of 9/11. I'm glad the money and resources were extended because trauma is life long, it doesn't have an end date and should always show appreciation to all involved. Just know to all of the victims families my heart thinks of you often, not just in this day. But as I get older thinking about all of those kids growing up without a parent. Having your loved one no longer here with you as your life continues on, just know they are never forgotten. I'm sorry I don't know all of their individual names but my heart has always been with you from that day in 2001. Hugs to you all and I know I will never forget.

I had to leave school early and was with my mom (also her birthday too) and family the rest of the day just mourning over the tragic of what happened. 9/11 did not only have impact on americans, but even on the prominent south asian community that was living there during that era. Hindus, who are the most harmless religion, preachers of peace, a community so harmless we even dont eat meat, atleast most of us do, we share the same if not more resentment towards muslims because of their problematic nature and violent tendencies, members from our community were slaughtered, assaulted, robbed only because the hijackers looked like us. My aunt who is a highly educated software engineer, was in New York at that time, told me what the on ground situation was. She doesn't typically look south asian, she has light skin and coloured eyes, that made her lucky enough to saveherself from all trouble all indians were facing at that time, and obviouly there was invasion of iraq, afghanistan and many more. It truly changed the world

Said the pledge, sat down to start our day in class when we heard the teachers running down the hall to turn all of our tvs on. Our teacher told us “this is real.” I remember nobody talking…just silence as we watched. Not wise enough to be afraid at the time. When we got home my parents were in tears. Singaporean here. Doing my National Service back then and just sent my girlfriend, now wife, home when the news broke live footage on the TV, on my way home via the bus (10pm Singapore time). My mother in law flew out of Boston for San Jose on the morning of the 11th! She was grounded somewhere in the midwest, I don't remember where. Over the next few days she tried to board 2 different planes but panicked and backed out. I was in elementary school when this happened. Someone came running into our classroom and said a plane hit one of the World Trade Center towers. My teacher turned on the news. We saw the 2nd plane hit live and that’s when the principal came over the PA and advised all teachers to turn off their tvs. We weren’t sent home early. My mom left work early and my dad was told to stay put. He worked at the Renaissance Center, the tallest building in Detroit. My mom told him not to listen to his boss and leave. If he was fired, he could find a new job. No one knew what was going on and my dad ended up leaving work to come get me from school. It was incredibly eerie not hearing any planes in the air for a few days. I’m a flight attendant now and September 11 feels so completely different now.

I was 22, just coming home from school and was glued to the TV as CNN covered the whole story here in southern Germany. I will never forget the horrors that unfolded in front of our eyes, 24years later I am still deeply touched by the events on that day and what followed since then. I work in ATC for almost 20years now and hope I will never experience such a devastating situation with one A/C in my career. My daughter worked in the highest floors of the South building. I was working in the bush and found out the disaster only at 8:p.m. I did not know two weeks earlier she was promoted and moved to building seven. I could not contact her as the cell towers were down. She escaped building seven 20 minutes before it collapsed, shouting bomb because she thought that was what it was.. The bridges were closed so she ran in bare feet until she found a bridge to use. She got home after midnight. I only knew at that time, she was safe. She has been chronically ill since that day.

I was 7 when this happened. Early afternoon in Germany, I just got home from school with my sister - all the adults we knew suddenly turned to something close to panic, frantically gathering around the TV. My sister and I weren't understanding it at first, just going about our days as young school children do - but when I passed by the TV, in the worst possible moment - the second tower getting hit by a plane, broadcast live on TV - that one got me. I somehow knew this wasn't a movie or anything, most likely through how my grandparents reacted. My father, a worker of national security, did not return home that night. I remember vividly the day after the talk he had with my sister and I - that not all humans mean well and are accepting of each other. That was my first encounter with terrorism and human error in terms of treating another. My 7-year-old innocent world view died that day. I can not imagine how hard it must have been for anyone to lose someone to this.

We thought we had a double tragedy that day. Thank GOD for His intervention.. My nephew was to be on Flight 77. He changed it at the last moment but didn't tell anyone. He always stopped by his parents house and put the flight info on the fridge. We were in a panic. Finally he called to check on everyone. My cousin's husband was a AF LTC and scheduled for a mtg at the Pentagon on 9/11. He arrived and was told because of the ongoing construction at the Pentagon, they had to change the location. He left about 20 minutes before the flight hit. We thank GOD every year for His never-ending blessings and miracles.

That's why many people don't know what actually happened that day, because they were glued to the fake news TV. Here in Britain at least one TV news channel reported that tower seven had fell one hour before it actually did. We were also shown the original footage of the first tower exploding from different angles but there were definitely no planes on that footage. The planes only appeared on the footage later.

Moving. I was in mid town when it happened. I will never ....ever ...forget that day. I sit in tears, here in my safe home, 23 years later.. My 11 year old son wants to know what happened that day. I have told him small parts of the story. But when he gets a little older, he will watch this video and I will take him to ground zero. One of the worst days in our countries life. For 6 months after life in the city was very different. We all felt united against a common enemy. People were kinder and more patient. I will never forget what I did that day, that minute, when I, like millions of other people, saw live how the second plane flew into the North Tower. I was breastfeeding my 5-month-old son and my 2-year-old daughter was playing with Duplo bricks and I was watching a quiz show. This was then interrupted by the news with Peter Kloeppel reporting on a plane crashing into the World Trade Center and during the news the live pictures continued and you witnessed something you never wanted to see. It's unbelievable that it was 23 years ago, the memories are so engraved that it feels like yesterday and you're still struggling with the emotions. I'm not from America, but I still struggle with the images today and get goose bumps and tears run down my face. What must it be like for all those who were and still are directly affected as victims, as well as their relatives and all the emergency services? So many people did so many incredible things during this time and afterwards. I just wish that all those who were there and had to give their lives could rest in peace and that all relatives and friends could learn to deal with their incredible losses.🙏

I went to Ground Zero a couple of years later. My immediate thought was of that day. I don't think you can go there without thinking about it. How much dust, dirt and mayhem. It looked so clean now and it had a strange quiet and reverence to the area. The memorial is fitting and my husband and I looked for the name of his work colleague. He had worked at the American branch of his insurance company and my husband was in the London branch.

It's interesting to see the reaction of people to 9-11-2001 who weren't even born yet. Such an intense day it was that some people in my high school class were crying at the footage being seen on TV. Esp at the live view of seeing people jump to their deaths out of the towers. This to going back home and watching my own mother pacing around the house and basically just saying nervously, "I don't know what to do." Like full fledge world war 3 was going to break out right away. In the few weeks that passed, you could feel the fear in the air. Especially among us younger guys who felt like we were going to get drafted into the military at any time.

My 13 year old daughter is learning about 9/11 this year and starting to comprehend the gravity of it. I was 15, in my high school freshman class that just started a week prior to 9/11. I remember teachers in the hallways going door to door, yelling to the classes to turn on the TV’s and then it came on the loudspeaker to stop what we were doing and turn on the TV’s. What was loud with kids talking, goofing around, all of a sudden became dead silent while we watched in horror. Us young students having no idea what a terrorist attack even was or what it meant. Feels like we got a crash course in adulthood that day. It wasn’t until I found out one of my best friends Aunt & Uncle were on flight 11 out of Boston that day did I truly understand the carnage that occurred. The one thing that people who were born after it will never really get is just how it it kept getting worse and worse and then it just went beyond all imagination. One plane you think "oh no that's horrible" and you stress about the people who are trapped but its just like any other catastrophe. Then you see people falling and jumping out of the windows on live tv and even the news achors don't really believe what they just saw. It was the first time something so tragic was televized as it was happening. You think its a horrible accident. Then another plane hits and it's not something you heard about, it literally happened on tv as you were watching the other tower burn. Reporters are screaming, news anchors are screaming and you know this isn't a mistake anymore. Everything you felt for the people in the first plane and the first tower is now x2 AND x1000 because you know it was deliberate this time. Then the bodies just start dropping from the building and everyone's crying. Reporters. News casters. The people in the room with you. All because you know just how far they have to fall and how bad must it be in there for them to choose that. You keep looking at the roofs and the helicopters circling and realise NO ONE has escaped up there and NO ONE is going to be rescued. Including those people waving cloths from broken windows. As the towers burn you hear about other planes gone awol and you know that its going to happen again somewhere. Anywhere. But where?! You have to watch the tv to find out and so you watch the towers burn people alive or belch them out to the ground below. You know that first responders have to go up there and try to do something and you know they're going to die. It couldn't possibly be any worse, any more horrifying, any more tragic and then.... a tower starts collapsing and you see huge clouds of debris push into the streets onto the people below. Snaking its way through each street and going around corners like some massive shadow of death and since you've got a news helicopter eye's view... you see it chasing people as they run like tiny tiny ants. All to the sound of news crew screaming. Buildings dont just fall. You've never seen that before. It never even crossed your mind and now you're thinking about the other tower and you know its going to go down with people in the stairwells and firefighters climbing floors. But maybe it wont right?! Right?! That was just a fluke. Maybe they'll all get out right and it's not going to fall. Maybe. You have to watch to find out. Can they even get out if they want to? Did the debris of the other tower make that impossible? The questions are endless now. And then it falls. There's no more screaming, it's all quiet.

I was 12, my mom was working as an in home caregiver who worked nights. She watched this on TV and immediately called my dad who was about to wake me up for school. On that day, I had just woken up, very pregnant and waiting for my due date to give birth. I had just taken maternity leave front work days prior. I got a call from my husband who was at work about the towers being hit. I was so confused and couldn’t process for a bit. I then turned on the TV and saw the terrifying images. I froze and suddenly started having contractions. For days afterward until giving birth to my daughter on 9/24, I was anxious, depressed, restless and couldn’t relax. I eventually named my daughter a Lao name which means “Peace” as it reflected my mindset and desire during that time. To this day, I can never forget.

I remember being at work doing carpentry when my customer told me a plane crashed into a building…….and my response was to shrug it off as I was in my 20’s and nursing a hangover, and I thought pretty unfortunate for the pilot but I’m sure no one else was hurt……..thinking it was a light plane and just an accident. He then called me inside to watch the breaking news and to my absolute horror I saw what had actually happened. We sat glued to the screen for days in shock, tears, disbelief and completely numb……….no words could justify. Every year I watch videos or documentaries on this unthinkable act trying my hardest to justify it in my mind, somehow desperately trying to sift through it all hoping maybe it wasn’t that bad or didn’t really happen or something……..anything but the cold harsh truth that what really is and happened. I was 31 yrs old and at my day job in Jersey when the news broke. I immediately left work, picked up my child at daycare, and went to my parents home. My pager went off requesting all available volunteer EMS to report to their stations. Nov 9 (9-11 reversed) 96 we flew from Orlando to Cleveland on an emergency flight as my mom was passing away from cancer. Our layover was in jersey - right across a bit from the trade centers. Welles Crowther worked as an equities trader and was also a volunteer firefighter. He ran dozens of floors upstairs with a gas mask in full fireman gear to reach the people in distress. People got on Bush for not reacting the instant he was told... I always disagreed. He was in a room full of small kids. If he suddenly rushed out, it would have scared them. And I liked how when he was asked as he was getting up to leave he told the reporter "we'll talk about it later." Right there wasn't the place to have a presser... at least until he had more information. I was about 2-3 blocks away from the WTC that morning... heard the first plane coming in and looked up just in time to see it hit... I envy people who got to watch on TV. I was at a dentist appointment when this happened. It was 3 days before my 11th birthday. I was waiting in the lobby with my mom when I remember seeing the receptionists' face turn white very abruptly. She has been in a conversation with someone and just stopped talking, which is why I looked at her. She turned the TV behind the counter towards the waiting room for everyone to see and all of us huddled around it and watched in horror. They evacuated the city where my dad worked, so we left the dentist to go downtown to pick him up. I was absolutely terrified. I remember just staring at all of the tall buildings and wanting to get home as soon as possible. When we were home, we just watched it on repeat....over and over. The immense sadness that I felt for the victims of this horrendous event has not changed. Their lives were stolen from them in an instant. My thoughts and prayers to all of the families that lost their dear ones that day.

I had just turned 11 about a month prior. I lived 2 hours north of NYC at this time. My school had an unplanned fire drill. All of the teachers were crying, but none would explain why. Parents started turning up to pick up their kids. My dad told me in the car. I cried the whole way home. When I got there my mom was watching live footage in the livingroom. I sat and watched with her for hours. A big chunk of my childhood innocence was definitely lost that day.

I actually left the trade center 15 minutes before the planes crashed. I was getting food in the restaurant of the north tower. I was still only down the street when I heard the 1st plane, I looked up in shock thinking "wtf is it doing flying that low??" and then it crashed. It was actually surreal and terrifying to watch. Shortly after the 2nd plane crashed into the other tower. It just dawned on me then that I just left that tower. It could have been me trapped in that tower if I stayed 15mins more... I wasa 14 years old here in NYC when the Twin Towers were destroyed, and I miss them everyday. I went on the roof of the South Tower as a child back in 1994, the year after the 93 bombing. I'm from Europe and had grown up on british forces bases in the UK and Germany, as the son of an army sergeant. I was at work that day and after hearing the initial broadcast that a plane had hit the first tower I decided to go home early to understand what had happened. The idea that a plane crashed just didn't sit right with me. I couldn't explain my feelings. At home I followed the events of that day in disbelief. A sadness gripped me that I still feel to this day when 911 comes up. The jumping men and women touched my soul so hard it brought tears to my eyes. Just thinking of their families and friends and the grief the people had to experience that day. Knowing that the brave first responders were trying hard to rescue people and getting killed in the process. Seeing them covered in dust, people covered in dust on the streets. Fleeing in the thousands. I imagined what the people trapped in the towers were experiencing. Then watching molten metal pouring from the corners of the buildings, and the free fall speed of the collapsing towers. Both towers collapsed in identical fashion. In the following five years I researched every possible explanation of what happened, especially in light of the wars that ensued in Iraq and Afghanistan. A neo con think tank paper " the project for a new American century" published just a few years prior comes to mind Then the idea that the government had an explanation within hours of why and how it happened. The vice president Dick Cheney and his cronies making large profits from the wars with their military industrial complex, all paid for by the American people. Dollar Plus and no bid contracts all resulted in what is now 35 trillion US debt. The whole of the western world is drowning in debt, but a few thousand individuals, their families and corporations have high jacked the assets and the financial future of the western nations. To this day I don't know what I can believe. Why and how it happened. Who benefited from this desaster. Larry Silverstein and his dodgy double insurance claim, building number 7 collapsing and being announced by the BBC 20 min before it happened. Honest firemen saying they heard bombs detonating and telling reporters Building 7 was being pulled. Then watching it coming down in a controlled way. The pentagon accounting department being hit a day after Rumsfeld declared that 2 trillion dollars were unaccounted for in the DoD Budget. All documentation unfortunately lost in the fire. Bush senior had declared a new world order on the horizon some years earlier. A CIA man who had been involved in shady buisness around the bay of pigs and the Kennedy Assassination. Life changed on that day. The world changed for ever on September 11, 2001. The new century started with a horrendous crime smashing the hopes for a bright and peaceful future. It felt like evil powers had drowned the optimism of the new century. Freedom and liberty had been suffercated by the debt based financial system and governments ecpanding control in the war on terror. Domestic government surveillance on its own people. As humanity we are more devided than ever. Conflict has never stopped in the past 23 years, recently reaching Europe once again with Ukraine being destroyed in a proxy war. Gaza now just a heap of rubble and millions people affected by death and destruction. Israel and the Middle East without a solution. 9-11 affected my life more than I ever thought it would, even though I was thousands of miles away. To the people who suffered loss of life and loss of loved ones on 9-11. To the brave people who put their own wellbeing at risk to save others. Thank you. Watching live, I got to see two planes hit the buildings. I remember that I realized I was literally watching thousands of people dying when the footage of people jumping was aired. I will never be able to thank my mom and dad enough for letting me know about and watch the tradegy unfold, because it really opened my eyes for the evil you will have to face in life, one way or another. I remember this day as clearly as all of you. In fact, i think its my first memory. I was born on 9/11/1996. I woke up on my 5th birthday all excited. I walked through streamers in my door way that my mother had put up overnight. I walked down the hall and into the living and i remember being very confused why everyone was crying. Twenty three years ago, I was still in my late 50's. Now I realize how quickly time passes by. It seems like I was just a senior in high school, and it seems like I just graduated from Navy boot camp and went overseas. It reminds me of something that Lord Tennyson wrote. I am a Brit and I've been to NY and the very sobering Ground Zero. I remember being on the subway a few years ago and looking around at the faces of those old enough to remember that fateful day with nothing but admiration and respect. New Yorkers are a different kind of people, made tough by the tragedy they had to endure. May all those that perished on that day rest in piece. Proud to stand with my American brothers and sisters.

I have bipolar disorder, and in 2001, I "woke up" from a manic phase. The next day was 9/11, and a horrible way to return to reality. That triggered an anxiety condition that has stayed with me to this day. But still, nothing compared to those who lost those they loved and cherished. It still feels like yesterday.

i have had a new interest in 9/11 footage videos lately. i have seen tons of 9/11 content, on tv, and online, in the 23 years since the tragedy, but this one is one of the better-made presentations! kudos to the makers of this video!!! i haven't even watched the whole thing yet, but almost got to the 50 minute mark. so far, it is great! it shows what many other videos on the subject didn't, such as the ATC attempting to contact the hijacked planes. NEVER FORGET! 🙏💔😢
