Michael totally fascinated with your work. You need to run an art school where you teach us students for a couple of weeks in the summer. I am sure that people will be flying in to attend from all parts of the world. I would for sure. What a fabulous way to spend a week or two learning to paint like you. Cheers!! And thank you for sharing your talent with us.

At 13 minutes you said you were doing a lazy man's technique. Not lazy at all. Masterful is what I'd call it. Those kind of simple strokes, that actually tell a lot, are what people are always praising John Singer Sargent for. I appreciate your being humble.

Beautiful I too began painting two years ago or so. Tried Acrylic and oils, I like oils better now. Use Acrylic for under painting. I like Windsor Newton Alkyd paint as it dries in about 24hrs. Bob Ross paint and Daniel Smith although Daniel is a bit pricey on some colours. Starting to see some reality in my painting now all due yo you Mr Smith. Really, love your paintings and how to descriptions.

New to your channel, Michael and just want to say thank you. I'd lost a fare bit of interest in landscapes until I found your channel and now the interest is definitely revived. A little suggestion if you don't mind; I noticed in your Painting Fast Flowing Water vid that you suffer from the shedding mop brush syndrome most artists have to deal with. I have noticed that several artists now use make up brushes instead and are having success with them; have you thought of trying them out? Thanks again for sharing your amazing talent

Michael, firstly I want to tell you how much I enjoy your videos. Having only really started experimenting with oils, I find your tutelage very helpful. I was just wondering, do you use acrylics for you under painting? I have been doing this but I think I need to be a bit looser with my detail I'm the under painting and let the oils detail the base.

Hello Michael, I'm new to your channel. I have a question! When I mix odorless mineral spirits to thin my paints for fine detail work with my brushes they always dry and leave a very flat sheen where it was applied. I loose all of my gloss finish from the oil paints. Will using white spirits leave the color sheen glossy to match the rest of the painting where no thinners were used???? I dont know anything about or understand the glazing technique. Can u help describe what we can use as thinners and different oils in our oil painting to give beautiful equal strength in colors and finishes.. Thank you or anyone else that can comment on my issues..

@mckennab13388 жыл бұрын
Artists have been using alkyds for years, haven't they?
@paulhunter53648 жыл бұрын
Many professional artists use alkyds and they all seem happy and I've never heard of any not being archival. They might fade after ten billion years or so, but who cares.

@spotoboy8 жыл бұрын
mineral spirits. You can buy it at the hardware store...or you can buy fancy stuff that doesn't have any oder; such as Mona Lisa brand. I use Gamsol by Gambin because I use Gamblin oil paint and it mixes perfect with them. Micheal uses Winson Newton paints which are quite fine also. I'm just try'n' to help out.
