currently working on my "emerald water scene" painting gone bad...beginner here, was frantically searching through tree painting videos and came to this one. I feel empowered to fix my painting which I thought had become an UNhappy mistake. thanks for recording these and making them available to all.

Thank you so much. I learned alot but have much more to learn. My trees still don't really look like trees yet. At 70, I just retired and am a beginner but loving it and, with your help, will get better.

Elizabeth Connolly hahaha I am just retired too. I bought all the paints and brushes before I retired. now, I am watching color tubes and brushes every day with white canvas. sometimes i hold the brush and acting like a painter, painting trees, clouds, flowers---. the problem is, the canvas is still solid white when i put the brush down. hahaha

Yong Yi, have you tried painting on paper first with acrylics? You can use watercolor paper and just start painting. You can try some decorative one stroke painting, too. I am a beginner, as well. I've got some canvases but hesitate so much. I did paint one painting on a canvas board and it really wasn't too bad. Everyone seems to like it. Acrylics dry fast so use a spray bottle or a sta-wet palette. Or you can just dampen a paper towel and put wax paper on top of that on a plate or even a paper plate. But make sure it's just damp. Mine was very damp yesterday and my paints were too wet. I swapped it out with a much less damp paper towel and just occasionally spray it with a mist bottle of water. If I want to go get a spot of tea or something then I put another plate over top upside down onto the other to make like a cap. I was away from it for 3 hours yesterday and my paints were still wet. Just paint, paint anything. It won't hurt anything. I was like you but then realize, no one has to see what I did and I enjoy painting. If I don't like it, in the trash it goes. When I feel confident enough to use my canvas then I will. Good luck. You'll do fine.

What you're saying here is a true help for all beginners including me :P Awesome idea with the plate-cap! I'm using wax paper too but somehow it rips on me while painting and that makes my colors full of paper scrumbs :/ I use it without the paper towel under it could that be the reason? your last lines are what everyone has to remember whenever scared of trying something new! And watercolor paper is cheap enough to just not cry over it later indeed! :D
@Debbyiamme
@Debbyiamme 7 жыл бұрын
It could be but don't press too hard on your paints on top of the wax paper. Yep, the damp, (not wet) paper towel under it helps to keep the paints wet so that us newbies can take our time while learning how to paint. LOL happy painting. Cheers

You may be right. That used to be the standard of a painter's talent. Then came photography, impressionism, surrealism, modern art, and now we scorn realism, the most challenging art form. Too bad.
