Sam I am 42 in June I’ve been out jail since 2018 now working stopped drinking 7 month tea total life’s going good at the minute so enjoying the good times I’ve been given anyway I first went jail when I was 17 back in 1999 I only got 3 month do half but when group 4 walked in the courtroom and took me down the last thing I saw when they shut the door was my mum wow I held a great big lump in my throat but soon as they put me on the bus destination hmyoi onley as it was then I cried my eyes out during that journey on the bus to rugby Warwickshire I’ll never forget it. It took me years of going in n out prison 20 in fact to finally realise what pain I put my mam n family thru but thankfully as I say I’ve been out now since 2018 life’s good I feel I’ve finally grew up and realise what a waste it was. Hopefully am now making my mam proud cos thru it all she’s the one who’s been their thru it all having my bk I LOVE YOU MAM ❤And sam I wish i had come across you on my travels cos your a top man I can imagine you having a lot of respect off the cons on them landings 👌 stay safe sam maximum respect love this channel well listening to you actually mate godbless 🙏👌👍

I got remanded in Forest Bank back in 05 and even though I wasn't sentenced at the time, I ain't afraid to say it, the second that door closed, it hit home fast where I was and I just burst into tears. The only thought I had in my mind was that it must be a nightmare, I'm going to wake up soon. When I got sentenced I received an IPP with a tariff of 3 and a half years. I ended up serving nearly 12 years. I've now been out for 4 years and being an IPP I know I can't mess up. [Edit] I know if I was to lose my job/home I would end up back inside, not for comiting another offence, it would be purely down to not having a fixed address. I've tried explaining to people about the IPP sentence and most if not all just can't understand it, could you do a video on prisoners who have received the IPP sentence and your experiences with them.

@guineagirl5078
@guineagirl5078 2 жыл бұрын
What is IPP?
@de-b1221
@de-b1221 2 жыл бұрын
@@guineagirl5078 It basically stood for "Imprisonment for public protection" in 2005. Originally it was called an ISPP which stood for "Indefinite Sentence for Public Protection" in 2004 It became an illegal sentence and was ruled out back in 2012 because they said it wasn't the same as a life sentence because the crimes committed didn't warrant a life sentence. So anyone who committed an act of violence could receive the IPP because it was looked at that the person was a danger to the public, therefore imprisonment to protect the public. The maximum term for this sentence was 99 years, but the judge set a minimum tariff based on what work (rehabilitation) needed to be done. Some courses could be a month long, other more intense courses could be up to 6 months long. But they also wanted you to have a break between courses so that you could demonstrate that what you had learnt on these courses you could put into practice, which in turn would show that you were reducing your risk to move through the system and then on to being released. I had to do things like the Calm course, T.S.P (thinking skills programme) Focus programme which was to do with alcohol and drugs. This was a six month programme. So the judge calculated this and set my tariff at 3 and a half years. When released, you're basically on a life license so you have to abide to your license conditions, if these conditions are broken, or you're seen as becoming a danger to the public again, or reverting back to old habits that are seen as risk factors, the person could be recalled. Normally, if a person is recalled back to prison, they are there for up to 30 days before they are then seen by the parole board. If someone who has an IPP, will serve their tariff again.

Just a quick note about sleep and tiredness. I've been homeless for many years off and on due to mental health not drugs or debts. I still cant sleep in a bed. Never have been able to. I sleep on the floor with a duvet as padding. In today's society we live in warm houses with soft beds and hot water on tap. Whenever I have sleeping problems I go and rough it in the local fields and countryside. O tent. Just my dog some water and dog food. No food for myself. The days last forever. Wherever you go people can see you so no privacy. A few days of this and you'll be so exhausted you'll sleep like a baby :) it works for me but might not work for everyone.

I only cried once or maybe twice in prison, in and out since 1999to 2019 ,now im no hard case and the reason I never cried much was due to being emotionally dead to be frank, and thats drug abuse and certain meds more than anything else and when i reflect on this it seems bizarre and it would often lead to me blowing my cool ,angry destructive outbursts etc over the years, now im in recovery and trying to get off methadone i know i will be more in touch with my emotions,soon.

I've seen people cry over getting a few months, even heard of people being made to go on the numbers because they were in such a state getting booked in that they would be a target on a normal wing.

I got put on the vp simply because I was young and very young looking no way would I off made it on main not with my baby face. I'd be turned into either a drug runner or someone's bitch as they say. I'm glad they put me on VP I got good education gained my GCSEs and I'm doing well now all thanks to the great proffesion screws who don't get the credit they deserve

@@peterevans3504 good to hear you turned your life around brother...I havent got any bad experiences with screws either to be honest...i actually found prison easy to just keep your head down in but then my personality is to make people laugh and be a clown so I like to think people saw me as a good laugh to be around rather than a threat.

Strangeways Prison ,what i can about say it ? well being born in Hr Broughton in 1964 i grew up no more than a few minutes away up the road from the prison ,its been part of our life for what seems forever .My 80 year old Mother still remembers the days when hangings took place there ,everybody knew the day it was to happen and a strange eerie silence fell about the place .Never myself ever been in a prison or even a police cell for that matter but i was there at Easter 1990 during the infamous riot that went on ,i had a perfect view from my 9th floor tower block front window .Most nights me and the then beloved walked across the River Irwell to see what was happening ,television crews from around the world were there and hot dog sellers set up shop outside on Bury new road .The worst part was watching the police and prison staff taking in body bags ,sadly a situation nobody wanted to happen .GM buses were hired to ship out to other prisons any prisoners not involved in the riot ,after it was all over contractors made millions fixing the place up which took quite some time .On another note its a little known fact that just up Waterloo road on the left were many prison officers flats built to house officers years ago ,also the first ever pub i drank in 41 years ago now was well a known haunt of prison officers and strangely the pub never had any trouble happen !

Lad came into Barlinnie after his trial and got a 22year tariff.. all bravado, come morning he was lying in his cell overdosed but fortunately he was saved, seemingly he had been saving and hiding his medication and planned to overdose if he was convicted. Shot his mate over £3000.. crazy

@@RealPorridgePodcast its a shame. People with what is basicly an indefinite sentance over there heads that can be recalled for just being arrested, dont even need to be charged.

do remember a lad called flinny that was a k-wing cleaner , he was attacked and stabbed my his mate in a drunken argument and he took the knife off him and stabbed and killed him ? we all thought he was going to get around 6 years for manslaughter but came back from court with a life sentence with a 13year rec for murder. everyone was in shock and asking him if he was ok but all he wanted to do was get on the snooker table haha. would love to have a catch up sometime Sam, got plenty of memories of the years i spent on k-wing and the people i met. hope your doing okay mate

When the judges got the power to hand out IPP's they started giving them out like sweets. It was their excuse to life people off who hadn't killed anyone and weren't serial rapists. That bit of power went straight to their heads. A mate of mine (who himself is serving an IPP) was in Long Lartin with one who had got an IPP with a minimum recommendation of something silly like 18 months or 2 years. He'd mugged someone at a cashpoint for a phone and £50 and it was his 3rd similar offence. This guy is still in and he was sentenced in 2009. He hadn't physically hurt any of his victims, just threatened them and shown them a knife. They weren't vulnerable people he'd robbed. He hadn't stole off pensioners or children, all 3 were adults drawing money out of ATMs. There is no disputing he deserved to be sent down, but he didn't deserve to have the key thrown away. They should've just doubled his minimum tariff and not included the IPP. 3-4 years and being made to serve two thirds would have been a fair sentence. He's done 11 and still has no release date.
