Anyone here because you loved this song in the 70's? Whether it's the Temptations or Phil Collins & Company, both are awesome. This is what you call great music.

Just found this version and was worried about Phil's vocal to this. Great cover,great band backing him up.
@galegreyson4196 Жыл бұрын
The original Temptations absolutely. It’s a beautiful piece of music. They reproduce it here well. But go back and listen to the original vocals and the way they intertwined their vocal threads. Phil Collins is a musical genius in his own right. And no one can do his songs like him.

Phil was a big Temps fan. It's a tribute and he does pretty darn good with excellent backup.

Hi Tom, I don't know if Phil Collins was a big Temps fan (but I'm sure he was). He had a big band and many singers in his background. But to tell my personal truth ... he is only half as good as the original: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pInMgqd6asyWfrc "Papa was a rolling stone" was and is myfavorite songs for ever. I also like the version by George Michael ("Killer"). Greetings from Germany Erwin (I hope you understand my bad english)

@@erwin3274 thanks for your reply. Very good english. Phil was for sure a motown fan. He did versions of other motown songs as well.

damm....phil collins never ceases to amaze me....I already loved his version of "you can't hurry love" from the supremes.....but this....this is a tremendous tribute to one of the best songs of the temptations, and a big love letter to motown....phil, the band, the backing vocals, great work!!!!

This is EPIC!. Live - capturing the studio ambience touches perfectly. the strings, the voices, the bass, the clapping the ghost of Wah-Wah Watson, straight out the left channel - so true to the original and the bass - HUGE with a bit more TR and grunt- a masters touch In my ATMOS HT, 7.4.6 , upmixed into DSU so clear, some much detail- best cover ever . .

" It was the third of September..."😉

LYRICS / TESTO: It was the third of September That day I'll always remember, yes I will 'Cause that was the day that my daddy died I never got a chance to see him Never heard nothin' but bad things about him Momma I'm depending on you to tell me the truth Momma just hung her head and said, son Papa was a rolling stone Wherever he laid his hat was his home And when he died, all he left us was alone Papa was a rolling stone (my son, yeah) Wherever he laid his hat was his home And when he died, all he left us was alone Hey Momma! Is it true what they say that Papa never worked a day in his life And Momma, some bad talk goin' round town sayin' that Papa had three outside children And another wife, and that ain't right Heard some talk Papa doing some storefront preachin' Talking about saving souls and all the time leechin' Dealing in dirt, and stealing in the name of the Lord Momma just hung her head and said Papa was a rolling stone (my son) Wherever he laid his hat was his home And when he died, all he left us was alone Hey Papa was a rolling stone (dad gumma it) Where ever he laid his hat was his home And when he died, all he left us was alone Hey Momma I heard Papa called himself a jack-of-all-trades Tell me is that what sent Papa to an early grave Folks say Papa would beg, borrow, steal To pay his bills Hey Momma Folks say Papa never was much on thinking Spent most of his time chasing women and drinking Momma I'm depending on you to tell me the truth Momma looked up with a tear in her eye and said, son Papa was a rolling stone (well, well, well, well) Wherever he laid his hat was his home And when he died, all he left us was alone (lone, lone, lone, alone) Papa was a rolling stone Wherever he laid his hat was his home And when he died, all he left us was alone Wherever he laid his hat was his home And when he died, all he left us was alone My daddy was Papa was a rolling stone (yes he was, yeah) Wherever he laid his hat was his home)
