President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. joined the Special Forces Regiment Airborne (SFRA) of the Philippine Army in commemorating its 61st founding anniversary with the theme, 'SFRA: Competent, Resilient, and Effective Special Operations Forces (SOF),' at Fort Magsaysay in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija on June 25, 2023.
In his message, the President recognized the exemplary performance of the 4th Special Forces Battalion based in Isabela City, Basilan, praising its efforts during the search and rescue operations in March 2023 that saved the lives of 316 individuals from a burning passenger marine vessel of Aleson Shipping Lines bound for Jolo Port.
He expressed his gratitude to the men and women of the Special Forces, particularly the SFRA awardees, for their competence and professionalism in various missions even in the most challenging of times. He also praised the Special Forces for living up to their reputation as the ‘Silent Professionals’ and acknowledged their role as dependable sentinels for the Filipino people.
Furthermore, the Commander-in-Chief announced that the Administration has adopted the Riverine Operations Equipment Project to enhance the Special Forces' capabilities in riverine operations.
President Marcos Jr. conferred the Army Governance Pathway Proficient Status with Gold Trailblazer Award to the SFRA under the leadership of Regiment Commander Brigadier General Ferdinand Napuli for demonstrating a culture of good governance and performance excellence.
After the awarding ceremony, the Commander-in-Chief witnessed a Military Free Fall (MFF) capability demonstration by the 33rd Special Forces Coy troops of the SFRA and a hostage situation scenario which included explosives and live fire simulations.
Concluding the event, President Marcos Jr. participated in a boodle fight with Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Andres Centino and other high-ranking military officials.
